There´s news today that Newcastle are willing to bid up to £18M for West Brom striker Saido Berahino but it that´s not accepted then Newcastle will turn to other striker targets.
There was news last night in the Mirror that Newcastle had already put in a bid of £15M and presumably they are willing to raise theta to £18M, but it looks like West Brom will even turn that down.
Saido Berahino – up to £18M and that´s it
£18M would be a new record transfer for Newcastle beating the £17M we paid out to Real Madrid for striker Michael Owen in 2005.
The Northern Echo are reporting that Newcastle’s recruitment team, headed by Managing Director Lee Charnley, have already been in discussions with West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace, and are set to bid their final offer in the next 24 hours.
The Chronicle is reporting that West Ham have told Newcastle they do not want to sell in January and that will be very bad news for the player himself, who has not been used much by West Brom this season and is desperate to get away.
That position by Saido should help Newcastle in their efforts.
It depends on how much West Brom really want to hold out for more if Newcastle do bid the £18M.
But it´s clear that Newcastle want to get a striker in soon and with only 11 days left in the window they will give West Brom maybe only a couple of days to decide on their offer.
That seems good to us – and if we cannot get Saido in before Saturday, then Newcastle will move to plan B.
Wonder if that´s to get Bafe Gomis from Swansea?
