Newcastle Willing To Bid Record Amount For Berahino

8:08 am, Thursday, January 21st, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 17 Comments

There´s news today that Newcastle are willing to bid up to £18M for West Brom striker Saido Berahino but it that´s not accepted then Newcastle will turn to other striker targets.

There was news last night in the Mirror that Newcastle had already put in a bid of £15M and presumably they are willing to raise theta to £18M, but it looks like West Brom will even turn that down.

Saido Berahino – up to £18M and that´s it

£18M would be a new record transfer for Newcastle beating the £17M we paid out to Real Madrid for striker Michael Owen in 2005.

The Northern Echo are reporting that Newcastle’s recruitment team, headed by Managing Director Lee Charnley, have already been in discussions with West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace, and are set to bid their final offer in the next 24 hours.

The Chronicle is reporting that West Ham have told Newcastle they do not want to sell in January and that will be very bad news for the player himself, who has not been used much by West Brom this season and is desperate to get away.

That position by Saido should help Newcastle in their efforts.

It depends on how much West Brom really want to hold out for more if Newcastle do bid the £18M.

But it´s clear that Newcastle want to get a striker in soon and with only 11 days left in the window they will give West Brom maybe only a couple of days to decide on their offer.

That seems good to us – and if we cannot get Saido in before Saturday, then Newcastle will move to plan B.

Wonder if that´s to get Bafe Gomis from Swansea?

Comments welcome.

Valuing Berahino at 20m, Townsend at 14m is completely a joke & laughable. No wonder why the company usually looking for foreign players.

We have to beat Watford on sat. They were very poor last Monday against Swansea.Still don’t get how we got beaten by them twice. Then again,we have a habit of making a poor team look world beaters.Whether that is faded away
    remains to be seen!!

Watford are hardly a poor team.

Their form has dipped so I’d say we need to beat them.

hibbitt…with the way football is financed today and with exposure and foreign players and coaches in the PL I am sorry to inform you that there is not much English about that league. It belongs to all of us.

I’d have imagined that West Ham would want to sell all of West Brom’s players 🙂
    Guess not

West brom would be spiteful not to sell.

He’s not getting games, they won’t be building their team around him and if they wait till next window his value will decline and he could just decide to run his contract down to get them back.

They’d be better off cashing in on their best offer and strengthening their own team.

I’m worried we are putting all our eggs in 1 basket but at the same time I think west brom are just stalking the inevitable in hope Spurs or someone else bids up.

I do t think Spurs will sign him anymore so it looks like it’s us or Stoke.

Carl…what day does your calendar tell you it was yesterday?

Why can’t we have a bit more faith in perez, Aarons and even Thauvin than spend stupid money on Bera and Townsend.

  • 14 Premiership Manager // Jan 21, 2016 at 9:16 AM

    Rotonda.

Perez for me would be one of the first names on the team sheet he has the potential to be as good as Silva and Aarons has more potential than Townsend. The club need to look very closely at the youth/reserve development team as we have had some good players but they have not got the best out of them and this needs to be addressed.

Sometimes it’s also easy to miss what is right infront of you, how about dropping Mitro and playing Wijnaldum as CF with Perez in the hole and using Aarons ,Thauvin or Rivierre? We have the players but they need to be played.

And what about the LB/CB personally I’d rather see a good LB and CB signed than another midfield player.

Berahino will improve the squad £18M would be the max we should pay. As for Townsend he could be another Adam Johnson, has the ability but fitness and attitude would make me question the £12M price tag. If Payet and Mahrez can be had for bargain prices maybe we should be looking at other leagues as there are some very good players to be had. Also what about Wilfred Bony he would be a very good acquisition if we could get him.

Lots of players but we seem to have tunnel vision as well as a history of some very poor buys at over inflated prices. It’s just as well some of the bargain players we have bought would balance the books if we had to sell but that is no excuse for poor buys by Penfold and Carr

    Rotonda

Aaron’s has played about 6 times in 2 years he cannot be relied on, thauvin looks a worse fit than cabella and Perez is still learning.

I know what you mean about using our squad but we need a new striker even for back up.

  • 16 Whumpie // Jan 21, 2016 at 10:12 AM

Faith and patience won’t keep us up. Mitro and Perez are both going to be amazing for us but two strikers still learning the trade misses too many chances (22 against manure) and loses too many points.
Berahino and Townshend would allow us to play experience with new talent and stay safely in the PL while developing the less experienced players.
Get those two in – ideally plus a defender – and I’ll be chuffed to bits.

Can’t see how he’s possibly worth that
