The Mirror has just released a report where they say that Newcastle manager Steve McClaren is pushing hard for a £10M deal for Spurs winger Andros Townsend and is increasingly confident of getting the deal done this month.
The report says the new talks have taken place and Newcastle are pleased with the way they have been progressing.
Andros Townsend – deal getting closer?
£10M would be a good deal for Newcastle with news that Daniel Levy was holding out for £14M – but you never really know what exactly is going on with these transfers.
After all the fuss over Cheick Tiote and problems he was supposed to be having in joining Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua a few days ago, Steve McClaren said today he saw no problems with the move and expected it to go through.
If Newcastle can get Townsend in it would be a great acquisition for Newcastle – because the England International winger will give give Steve McClaren different options up front.
The Mirror are reporting today that new talks have taken place and that Newcastle are happy with how they have been progressing.
That’s even though the report says that Daniel Levy, the Tottenham Chairman is pushing once again for more money from the Tyneside club.
The 24-year-old old fashioned winger is reported to be very keen to join Newcastle and is pushing Tottenham to give him the move he wants his month, after being frozen out of the first team by manager Mauricio Pochettino this season.
Andros can certainly help Newcastle in our relegation battle.
Comments welcome.

10M for Townsend is still 3M too much and blows out Perez, Aarons and even Thauvin.
Another misleading headline as I thought Berahino was our top target, ie a potential goal scorer.
Watch spurs now get a far better player in Sandro ramirez. when we will ever learn.

No point in keeping him – it just has not worked out for him.

Perez, Aarons, Sissoko, Thauvin, Goofy, Gini, Marveaux and even Obertan can play out wide, we have more than enough for wide areas, we don’t need Townsend, the only reason we appear to lack width is due to how SM sets them up.
Berahino is who we need

Comment #54Stuck a fiver on 3-2 Toon, Winjaldum to score first 175/1
Silly bet considering we’ve only scored 5 away from home but we seem to have built up some confidence and with Shelvey to feed Perez, Wini and Mitro with Janmmat to fire up the wing swinging a few crosses in, I’m quite confident for the win, the score line would be a bonus.

put it this way Pochettino wants rid of Townsend and is keen on Ramirez. Enough said.
We’ll end up with a knacker like townsend while spuds get ramirez or Berahino, possibly both.

how many of them are good enough?……perez is’nt a left winger…he’s attacking mid or striker, aarons would be ideal but he’s unreliable, his fitness problems are a worry, gini is an att mid, thauvin wants out,the rest are not good enough, thats why a lot of people on here want rid of them…..im not entirely sold on townsend myself tbh, but cant see who else is a better fit for that side that we can afford

I lie.
I DO remember mentioning that The Mirror had reported that Austin was a done deal back in the summer.
Then Jib pounced to accuse me of making it up.
Then Chancel helpfully posted a picture link to the article in dispute.
There are times on the blog when you know exactly what another poster is doing.
But if a panicky Google search revealed a cutting comeback, I’m still waiting for it.

Comment #61Jib Jibberish – you will no doubt have noticed a judge today slagging of Mr Tubbs :-
“A SENIOR judge has condemned the “intimidatory, muscular tactics” used by Mike Ashley’s sportswear company Sports Direct in a failed bid to have Rangers chairman Dave King punished for an alleged breach of a gagging order.”
You will note the inclusion of the word muscular. This does not mean that Mr Tubbs has been doing some training and has become a body builder and therefore very muscular.
The word muscular was used figuratively to describe the nature of Mr Tubbs tactics.
There now – with that explanation I’ve saved you a Google Search. No need to send your thanks.

Comment #66The squad seems poorly built for any kind of decent season. We have 2 experienced CB’s that we absolutely rely on. If either get injured we’re stuffed. All our LB’s and stand-ins are injured apparently and we’re weak at that position even when they’re fit. We have 1 decent RB (at least decent in the attacking sense). We have no decent backup to Elliot with Krul injured. We’re thin on the wings unless we play someone out of position there. We have kids as strikers with no fit and experienced senior player at that position. Exactly what have we built during Ashley’s tenure?

That’s a completely different Douglas mate. We were after the Brazilian born but Dutch capped CB Douglas from Twenty at the time. He plays for Trabzonspor and has never played for Barca. The Barca lad is a young Brazilian Right back.
