McClaren – My Players Are Giving Everything – He’s Right

1:45 pm, Sunday, January 24th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 19 Comments

We have never faulted the Newcastle players because of their display yesterday – and the very pleasing thing that needs to be pointed out is that they are giving everything they have on the field and that’s why they were applauded by the fans following the game.

Maybe we are just not good enough but to be sure – we cannot fault the players for their effort or attitude – and maybe that’s something to build on and something that will see us survive this season.

Steve McClaren yesterday

It’s just that the results are not going for us at all at the moment – and it can get very frustrating as a Newcastle fan.

This is what Steve McClaren said in another upbeat comment following the loss yesterday:

“We just said to the players that we won’t have a problem if we keep performing like that every week.”

“Many people questioned the attitude of these players earlier this season and whether they cared. Of course they do and you saw that today and in recent weeks. I thought we did everything today but win the game.

“It is disappointing and frustrating because we are not getting the results we deserve. But it is all about goals and if you don’t score you don’t win.”

“Their first goal looked offside but he got the decision,” “The first 10 minutes of the second period were very disappointing after what I thought was a very good first half.”

“It gave us a mountain to climb which the players aimed to do and very nearly did. It was a good performance, but what wins games is at both ends and that has cost us today.”

“At the moment that is letting us down and putting us in the position we are in. You can’t fault the team, the football, the organisation.”

“They are working hard, they are fighting, they are giving everything, but is just shows you with Ighalo and Deeney that you need quality at both ends.”

We see in the comments calls for the fans to keep right behind the team and of course that’s right – we have to keep supporting the lads, especially when they are doing all they can.

It’s now up to those running the club to get a top striker in this next week – and then we should have a decent enough chance of survival if we all pull in the same direction.

Comments welcome.

So if the players give everything, then it’s McClaren’s fault. Cheers, Schteve.

We’ve performed like that for the last 7-8 games. Unfortunately we got 4 points.. so how can he keep sating we will be ok… 8pts from the next 16 will see us relegated

I wish mclaren would stop saying about the fans questioning the payers attitude.

Yes we did earlier in the season but not for ages now and he keeps bringing it up.

We aren’t having a go at the players attitudes we are having a go at the manager not being able to get them to play and win.

I honestly hope Mclaren really does not think we have been great and are putting in lots of effort every game! So many of our games we have lost just because the other teams have out worked us Watford chased us for the whole game it seems we get a few tackles and are pressed a little and then some players just throw the towel in ! A bit like Arsenal a few years ago when they had a soft underbelly to the team !

The first half we totally bullied West Ham and dominated Man Utd 2nd half but I cant remember another game in ages where we actually worked harder than the other team

For mcClaren to say we were terriffic is ridiculous. We are nothing short of terrible. We are the most inconsistent team in Premier League history and more so now than ever. At least back in the day you could expect us to beat the likes of Watford, Bournmouth etc. We are a shambles and the players aren’t good enough and I am afraid that McClaren you aint good enough either.

We can never have a run of form and never have an easy win. We always struggle wven when we do.

We clearly need reinforcements and if the board don’t act on this it will be the end of our time in the Premiership. This sleeping giant is in a coma that never looks like waking up. What a waste of potential this club is. It’s so sad and depressing. If we don’t sign a ST at least we are going down. But in reality we need much more for example a ST, CB, LB, LW, RB.

There are way too many wrongs to make right in the short time we have left but the board don’t even look concerned and that is the most worrying of it all. We are heading down and fast!

Players can give their best but if they’re not good enough for the Prem……

Think about it and try to avoid the blame mentality.

… which is looking increasingly unlikely.

Jesper….. You make lots of comments that are completely without substance. What is the point of this? I asked you recently when you were criticising young Jamie Sterrey if you had ever seen him play and you didn’t reply. You obviously haven’t and as you openly admit that you rarely bother to watch the team play how can you be such an authority as you portray yourself to be?

Also you make a bold statement about Ashley’s contribution last year which you also refuse to explain. What exactly is your agenda?

Mc says, if we don’t score we cant win, obvious! What he doesn’t say, if we dont concede we cant lose, also obvious. Get the defense sorted, buy some defenders FFS.

Everton not doing an awful to help us today. No doubt be a better Everton who come out against us. But we really can’t rely on other teams helping us we have got to grind out results for ourselves.

I agree, if SM wants to retain any shreds of sympathy for him and his charges, he should back right off the fans. That is a no-go area and managers / coaches should be warned of harsh penalties for trying to deflect their inadequacy to their supporters. We’ve suffered some appalling football and lack of duty of care these last five and more years, and we’re still here. Suck it up or get out.

    lesh // Jan 24, 2016 at 2:08 PM

Really? So how you’ll explain that this players are cappable of playing good football and take points from the big guns like Man Utd, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, but in the same time to be raped by the lower profile teams? Is this sound to you like our players aren’t good enough for the PL? Get real.

The same problems exist at Newcastle and the acquisition of two new players does not address fundamental problems. For me McLaren remains our no1 problem and Charnley no2. Mike Ashley’s seeming inability to hire a charismatic manager like Benitez, DeBoer and even Moyes, smacks of indecision and lack of ambition. With money to spend and with McLarens record it would be a no brainier for any other club, but our seeming ‘rabbit in the headlights’ mentality, I am now (wasn’t till now) convinced we will be relegated because clubs like Swansea are beginning to find their form and pull away from us. McLaren isn’t and never was the manager for NUFC and if you don’t believe me look at his Derby County Stats (and Charnley hired him on those) then look at our stats so is it any surprise we will be relegated !
