Newcastle Reported Back In For Alexandre Lacazette

5:23 pm, Monday, January 25th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 114 Comments

The Telegraph and former Journal reporter Luke Edwards are reporting that Newcastle United are ready to make (yet) another attempt to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in this month’s transfer window.

We know he’s a favorite of Chief Scout Graham Carr, but we have already made one attempt this month to get him to leave Lyon and he turned us down.

Alexandre Lacazette

24 year-old Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette

The Telegraph is reporting that people associated with the player – probably his agents – are saying he would be much more receptive now to a move.

We’re not sure why that would be the case?

It’s difficult to know how real the opportunity to sign Lacazette is, but we understand Mike Ashley would be willing to splash the cash on Alexandre – maybe as much as £25M to get him in before next Monday.

What could persuade the 24 year-old striker to sign is that the Telegraph are reporting that Newcastle are ready to offer him wages that would be near those of top earner Fabricio Coloccini – maybe around £65K/week.

It would be great if we can get him in, but given the trouble we have had negotiating with Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas in the past. we would be very surprised if Newcastle can get a deal struck for the French International striker before next Monday.

We would need to agree a fee with Lyon and then persuade the striker to change his mind and join Newcastle – a club that is currently 3rd bottom of the Premier League.

It’s a big ask, but at least Newcastle are trying to do the deal, always assuming the Telegraph report is accurate.

Comments welcome.

Great idea – but FCB is going to have to pay through the nose in Fees and wages to get him!!!

Old man Carr needs to be doing much better than this. The same two or three names going round and round.

  • 3 Macas // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:31 PM

More likely a pathetic bluff to try and make West Brom drop their price for Berahino. Clowns

  • 4 Sazzer // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:35 PM

With £50m Lee Charnely should be able to get 3 of these: Berahino, Promes, French Dembele, Remy, Berardi, Carrillo, Townsend, Willems

Jetro Willems isn’t winger but would add an pacy and skillful offensive option.

  • 5 toon kk // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:37 PM

More speculation, howway ìts getting past the joke. We’re starting to become a laughing stock.
We’re on the brink of relegation and we’ve got one week to attempt save our season.

i think the shit will hit the fan if there’s no more signings no one will get an easy ride …….. the clocks ticking mr charnley

  • 7 Sazzer // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:38 PM

If they sign 2 other ambitious signings before go after Lacazette then he might accept.

  • 8 mindshaft // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:38 PM

    not happening
    nor is Remy
    nor is Townsend
    nor is Berahino

  • 9 optimistic prime // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:39 PM

    Bloody Fickle Footballers

Apparantley Remy also wants a move to NUFC along with Lacazette, you couldn’t make it up ( someone probs did )

It’s good news for us if true as it gives us bargaining power with the players plus WBA Spurs etc because we’d have more options and wouldn’t be held to Ransom.

If it’s 2 out of the 4 of Lacazzete Remy Townsend or Saido it would be Lacazzete and Remy for me.

  • 10 Tsunki // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:40 PM

I believe the clock is also ticking for Mr Carr. In a more Icy-Fingers-Of-Doom-Curling-Over-His-Shoulder kind of way….

  • 19 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:48 PM

We very much need drastic action now, and we are going to have to roll the dice and get some of these players in. Players from the top of the list, not the “if all else fails” section at the bottom.

  • 20 MadisonToon // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:50 PM

We do need a CF and a LB…but are we ever going to sell our deadwood?

This window needs to see the exits of Willo, Gouffran, Marveaux and Obertan – probably also Tiote. Once we offload a few of these, there will be room in the budget to add on some higher wages, but these are just soaking up precious places and salary. Just as Carr scouts potential (or is supposed to), we should have someone who actively manages the outgoings.

I know we have people who deal with it financially, but without having an appropriate person to find and negotiate deals for our outgoings, we will never be rid of these players we put on long contracts with high wages that don’t turn out to be good. Does that responsibly currently fall on Charnley? Someone else?

  • 21 Moonraker15 // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:51 PM

If we don’t sign at least a striker, this window and we get relegated, I wouldn’t wanna be Charnley or Wally in May; all of this is unnecessary because if they hadn’t neglected the squad we’d be pushing for Europe because we do have some very good players. Unfortunately we have some poor ones as well and Wally is persisting with them apparently oblivious to the obvious danger !

  • 22 toon kk // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:53 PM

Chelsea and Arsenal have more quality sat on the bench than all of our first team players apart from Probably Gini, such is the gap in quality. Time we got realistic and purchased players that will close the gap between us and other clubs, instead of relying on a geriatric in Carr and the clueless Charnless to waste the millions that MA has eventually decided to spend or now not spend.

  • 23 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 25, 2016 at 5:54 PM

If NUFC don’t secure the services of a top striker and commanding CB who can hit the ground running, Charnley and Carr must go. It was foreseeable in the summer. Unlike many of us, they didn’t see it. But now it’s obvious to a blind man. There can be no excuses.

    The blame lies with Ashley
    He said so himself.

  • 28 JDdubai // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:01 PM

    Mactoon @16

It depends where the supposed info is coming from. Its just as likely they have people/journos in france who leak the story from that side.

Having said that, it sounds like Lacazette’s agent tryng to get an improved contract for him, or we are bullsh1tting WBa to get Bera for lower.

  • 29 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:02 PM

    forget him
He does not want to come
get Remy if not why not try:
    These Championship players

    Andre Gray Burnley 16 goals
Abel Hernández Hull City 15 goals
    Ross McCormack Fulham 15 goals
    Alan Judge Brentford 12 goals
Fernando Forestieri Sheffield Wednesday 11 goals
Jordan Rhodes Blackburn Rovers 10 goals

  • 30 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:02 PM

But i suppose as long as there are other people, his fans can still deflect the blame elsewhere. Phew. Good old mashers stays out of the firing line again. Even though the ONE CONSTANT over all these years of mediocrity, is him.

  • 31 Moonraker15 // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:02 PM

I think Ashley will have a shake up if we stay up cos the transfer business has been a disaster and he won’t want the millions available wasted. If we go down he will sell up !

  • 32 toon kk // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:03 PM

You’d think MA with Millions tied up in the club, and it’s future on the line would start to think where am I going wrong, and would have a major revamp with the recruitment staff.
He obviously can’t see any problems and is still the clueless nugget with still more hands on than we think.

  • 33 MadisonToon // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:05 PM

    Moonraker @30

I like the sounds of that, but not sure I believe he will do either. Hopefully we stay up and he has a re-think on who has control in the transfer dealings, although really I’m just at the point where I want us to stay up!

  • 34 BandB // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:07 PM

    Remmys not coming

  • 36 lesh // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:10 PM

The only way Carr’s gonna be sacked is at the same time as Charnley.

With the money at risk, for the second consecutive year, one would expect Ashley to realise that he can’t rely on Charnley to even avoid relegation let alone achieve 10th and above.

  • 37 toon kk // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:14 PM

    Newcastle fans look away now

Nice forward Hatem Ben Arfa celebrates scoring
Hatem Ben Arfa scored 13 Premier League goals in four-and-a-half years with Newcastle
This column has been keeping a close eye on Newcastle mis-fit Hatem Ben Arfa, whose career revival in France continues apace.
Ben Arfa’s Toon torment ended last January with a move to Nice, where his form has earned him a return to the French national squad.
And on Saturday the former Marseille attacking midfielder, 28, took his goal tally for the season into double figures in a 2-1 win over Lorient.
While Newcastle keep struggling to score, particularly away from home, Ben Arfa has helped Nice into third spot in Ligue 1 behind champions-elect Paris St-Germain and Monaco, with a Champions League spot in their grasp.

  • 40 AncientC // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:39 PM

The club is in a worse position than the last time it was in a relegation battle – on that occasion we had Debuchy, Haidara, Mbiwa, Gouffran (in form), and Sissoko come into the club.

This time – 1 first team player in… and things not looking good for the rest of the window. Not discounting the fact that we lost 4 senior players in the summer, with Wijnaldum the only senior addition in that window.

Some History; I posted this 5 years ago
    “”As we near the end of the transfer window, I would like to thank the Press, particularly the Chronicle, for keeping us so accurately informed about some of the strikers the club were about to buy, including;
Daniel Sturridge , Nicklas Bendtner , Didier Drogba, Dimitar Berbatov, Federico Macheda, Jermain Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Peter Crouch, Robbie Keane, Danny Graham, Hugo Rodallega, , Clint Dempsey, Gervinho , Mevlut Erdinc, Kevin Gameoiro, Eren Derdiyok , Park Chu-Young, Ola Toivonen, Klaas Jan Huntelaar,Teteh Bangura , Mohamed Bangura , Miralem Sulejmani, Keirrison, , Ante Vukusic, Juan Manuel Martinez , Shane Long, Grant Holt, Modibo Maiga, Carlton Cole, Nolan Roux. & Demba Ba

    Where are they now?

HBA couldn’t get in the Hull team, couldn’t defend and lost the ball more than any other player in a black and white shirt. He wasn’t a team player and upset the balance of the team. We are far better off without him.

We are making progress but we need some wins. If we get relegated to the Championship HBA can come back as he’ll be playing at the same level as he is now in France.

  • 48 AncientC // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:50 PM

Jail, the club was not in as bad a position in the league, this time last year. We have been parked in the bottom 3 for quite some time now – surely the most amount of time spent in the bottom 3, since the club came back from the Championship.

Watford and Newcastle are still interested in Tottenham winger Andros Townsend.

Sky Sports News HQ understands there is still hope talks between Newcastle and Spurs can be revived.

Newcastle have already had a loan offer and a £10.5million bid rejected, with the stumbling block still believed to be Tottenham’s £14million asking price.

It seems a compromise will be required if any deal is to go through, but there is every chance this will not be resolved until Deadline Day.

  • 52 Jail for Ashley // Jan 25, 2016 at 6:56 PM

I know what you mean, it was a dofferent situation last year as we had to go out of our way to get relegated, we tried our best mind but Jonas wouldn’t have it. This year we’re going to have to upset our form book to and really go some. I still stand by my claim it would be madness to let Tiote go, this Saviet may well come good, we can’t risk him not.

Jail, I am not sure on that one. We have been in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle, basically every season since the club came 5th. However, the way I look at it, the position during winter 12/13 and the position now, are the most dangerous positions the club has found itself in, whilst being able to do something about it with a transfer window.

I simply do not believe that the fat man would be willing to shell out that kind of money on a player. I see where you are coming from with reference to the Watford game, but the reality is that we’ve been in the same situation all season long. Mitrovic is a willing player but has zero pace and is not a finisher, yes he’s young but I’d be amazed if he ever turned into a 20 goal a season striker for us, while Cisse is a shell of the player he used to be.

We are once again panicking because the business we did in the summer was nowhere near good enough, we may have spent some decent money but Gini aside, our transfer policy, if it can even still be called a policy, is a waste of time and space

You call everyone on here a moaner, for over a month you’ve bleated on like one of those furry things youre so keen on.
NUFC are going down blah blah blah

How many times have you claimed we’ll be relegated this season? Fool

What you know about football could be wrote on a grain of rice, with room to spare.

Can’t be arsed arguing with you, so go away and play with your doll house.

I love the way you make things up as you go along.

Jib jibberrish – the blog pest and general knacker.
Please leave the comedy aside – leave it to me. Your attempts at comedy are on the same level as your knowledge about football —– zip- zilch.

As there is no transfer news – We play Newcastle players as farm yard animals.

Strange lack of action in this window from us. Shelvey is a decent signing but when we were in danger before Ashley brought in 5 if I remember correctly including Sissoko, Gouffran, and Debuchy wasn’t it? People forget that Gouffran was quite decent early on. This window could be the end of Charnley I would think but it would probably also mean we will go down. A disaster for Ashley in terms of advertising Sodall Direct.

Anthony Ujah linked – Wikipedia time!
Does the transfer committee use Wikipedia – saves watching these linked players!

And what is the figure Springy mate? Other sources say 12M agreed but I doubt it. It’s a lot for a lad who hasn’t played much for quite a while now.

    And right back Todd Kane!
