Newcastle Reported Back In For Alexandre Lacazette

The Telegraph and former Journal reporter Luke Edwards are reporting that Newcastle United are ready to make (yet) another attempt to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in this month’s transfer window.

We know he’s a favorite of Chief Scout Graham Carr, but we have already made one attempt this month to get him to leave Lyon and he turned us down.

Alexandre Lacazette

24 year-old Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette

The Telegraph is reporting that people associated with the player – probably his agents – are saying he would be much more receptive now to a move.

We’re not sure why that would be the case?

It’s difficult to know how real the opportunity to sign Lacazette is, but we understand Mike Ashley would be willing to splash the cash on Alexandre – maybe as much as £25M to get him in before next Monday.

What could persuade the 24 year-old striker to sign is that the Telegraph are reporting that Newcastle are ready to offer him wages that would be near those of top earner Fabricio Coloccini – maybe around £65K/week.

It would be great if we can get him in, but given the trouble we have had negotiating with Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas in the past. we would be very surprised if Newcastle can get a deal struck for the French International striker before next Monday.

We would need to agree a fee with Lyon and then persuade the striker to change his mind and join Newcastle – a club that is currently 3rd bottom of the Premier League.

It’s a big ask, but at least Newcastle are trying to do the deal, always assuming the Telegraph report is accurate.

Comments welcome.

Old man Carr needs to be doing much better than this. The same two or three names going round and round.

More likely a pathetic bluff to try and make West Brom drop their price for Berahino. Clowns

With £50m Lee Charnely should be able to get 3 of these: Berahino, Promes, French Dembele, Remy, Berardi, Carrillo, Townsend, Willems

Jetro Willems isn’t winger but would add an pacy and skillful offensive option.

    Bloody Fickle Footballers

Apparantley Remy also wants a move to NUFC along with Lacazette, you couldn’t make it up ( someone probs did )

It’s good news for us if true as it gives us bargaining power with the players plus WBA Spurs etc because we’d have more options and wouldn’t be held to Ransom.

If it’s 2 out of the 4 of Lacazzete Remy Townsend or Saido it would be Lacazzete and Remy for me.

We very much need drastic action now, and we are going to have to roll the dice and get some of these players in. Players from the top of the list, not the “if all else fails” section at the bottom.

We do need a CF and a LB…but are we ever going to sell our deadwood?

This window needs to see the exits of Willo, Gouffran, Marveaux and Obertan – probably also Tiote. Once we offload a few of these, there will be room in the budget to add on some higher wages, but these are just soaking up precious places and salary. Just as Carr scouts potential (or is supposed to), we should have someone who actively manages the outgoings.

I know we have people who deal with it financially, but without having an appropriate person to find and negotiate deals for our outgoings, we will never be rid of these players we put on long contracts with high wages that don’t turn out to be good. Does that responsibly currently fall on Charnley? Someone else?

If we don’t sign at least a striker, this window and we get relegated, I wouldn’t wanna be Charnley or Wally in May; all of this is unnecessary because if they hadn’t neglected the squad we’d be pushing for Europe because we do have some very good players. Unfortunately we have some poor ones as well and Wally is persisting with them apparently oblivious to the obvious danger !

Chelsea and Arsenal have more quality sat on the bench than all of our first team players apart from Probably Gini, such is the gap in quality. Time we got realistic and purchased players that will close the gap between us and other clubs, instead of relying on a geriatric in Carr and the clueless Charnless to waste the millions that MA has eventually decided to spend or now not spend.

If NUFC don’t secure the services of a top striker and commanding CB who can hit the ground running, Charnley and Carr must go. It was foreseeable in the summer. Unlike many of us, they didn’t see it. But now it’s obvious to a blind man. There can be no excuses.

It depends where the supposed info is coming from. Its just as likely they have people/journos in france who leak the story from that side.

Having said that, it sounds like Lacazette’s agent tryng to get an improved contract for him, or we are bullsh1tting WBa to get Bera for lower.

You’d think MA with Millions tied up in the club, and it’s future on the line would start to think where am I going wrong, and would have a major revamp with the recruitment staff.
He obviously can’t see any problems and is still the clueless nugget with still more hands on than we think.

The only way Carr’s gonna be sacked is at the same time as Charnley.

With the money at risk, for the second consecutive year, one would expect Ashley to realise that he can’t rely on Charnley to even avoid relegation let alone achieve 10th and above.

    Newcastle fans look away now

Nice forward Hatem Ben Arfa celebrates scoring
Hatem Ben Arfa scored 13 Premier League goals in four-and-a-half years with Newcastle
This column has been keeping a close eye on Newcastle mis-fit Hatem Ben Arfa, whose career revival in France continues apace.
Ben Arfa’s Toon torment ended last January with a move to Nice, where his form has earned him a return to the French national squad.
And on Saturday the former Marseille attacking midfielder, 28, took his goal tally for the season into double figures in a 2-1 win over Lorient.
While Newcastle keep struggling to score, particularly away from home, Ben Arfa has helped Nice into third spot in Ligue 1 behind champions-elect Paris St-Germain and Monaco, with a Champions League spot in their grasp.

The club is in a worse position than the last time it was in a relegation battle – on that occasion we had Debuchy, Haidara, Mbiwa, Gouffran (in form), and Sissoko come into the club.

This time – 1 first team player in… and things not looking good for the rest of the window. Not discounting the fact that we lost 4 senior players in the summer, with Wijnaldum the only senior addition in that window.

    Farcical.
