Dutch publication De Gelderlander is reporting today that Premier club Newcastle United are interested in signing Chelsea’s 22 year-old full-back Todd Kane, who is currently on loan at NEC Nijmegen playing in the Dutch Eredivisie.
Todd has been playing extremely well on loan which is why he is attracting so much attention from clubs other than Newcastle, with Southampton and Dutch clubs Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord all interested in signing the player in the summer.

While Todd usually plays at right back he can also play on the other side, which is why we assume Newcastle are interested in him, although he is right-footed.
Shades of Davide Santon.
Kane joined Chelsea when he was just 8 years old and came through their Youth Academy and was in the team that won the 2011–2012 FA Youth Cup, beating Blackburn Rovers 4-1 on aggregate in the final.
Speaking about his future plans Kane has hinted he may want to stay at Chelsea:
“Chelsea say that I prepare normally for the new season in the first-team. I grew up in Chelsea and would like to break through there. That there are so many options is nice.”
“The Netherlands is beautiful, but the Premier League is a bigger competition. The point is then what are my prospects, and what Chelsea want. The summer is very important.”
Todd has played most of his games on loan and has never played in the Chelsea first team.
His loan spells have been at Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and he’s now at NEC Nijmegen.
Kane has played 84 times on loan with three goals.
With Newcastle about to sign Andros Townsend from Tottenham tomorrow, we badly need a striker with the two major possibilities seeming to be Saido Berahino from West Brom or Loic Remy on loan from Chelsea.
It would be good to get a defender in to shore up our defense which has been weak for at least three years – but it looks like Newcastle are more interested in Todd as a potential summer signing.
What do you think?
