Southampton In Surprise Late Move For Townsend

Just when it looks like Newcastle may be getting close to signing Andros Townsend – the Guardian yesterday reported that a fee had been agreed between the two clubs –  Southampton are reported to have have moved in and that should worry Newcastle.

Andros Townsend – the Saints have moved in for him

Southampton are a well oiled club in the transfer market – unlike Newcastle – and they have beaten Newcastle to a number of targets in the past including Charlie Austin just last week – when they made no fuss about it but moved in and snapped him up very quickly 10 days ago for £4M.

News was that Newcastle were surprised about the move and that it was done so quickly.

The south coast club  are almost the opposite of Newcastle and they are very well run and move quickly and  decisively once a price has been agreed for a player.

So maybe Tottenham have indeed agreed a price for Townsend and that´s why the Saints have moved in quickly for the 24 year-old England International winger.

The news in the Northern Echo is that Southampton have expressed interest in Townsend and are now ready to follow up that interest with a firm offer.

Let´s hope Newcastle have this one sown up – we have lost out before on players at the last minute because of our lack of decisiveness.

One was Dele Alli almost exactly a year ago when Spurs jumped in and signed him after we dithered around for weeks – and look at the player Alli is now and what a wonderful goal he scored for Spurs over the weekend.

We hope Newcastle are too advanced in their talks for Townsend to allow Southampton in- but it´s a bit worrying nevertheless.

What do you think?

Don’t worry just the press rubbing it in, he’ll be on his way to NUFC shortly, Spurs wouldn’t let him go to a direct rival that “could” take a champions league or Europa league place away from them

If it is true, levy will be rubbing his hands, no doubt hoping saints trump our offer.

    Hopefully they do.

I think the guy is ok yes, he is yet to prove himself long term but he has proved he can do it at top level for Spurs and England
I do think he deserves a fair crack
