Striker Options Running Out – Magpies Move For Ecuadorian

Everton are said to be very keen to bring in 27 year-old Espanyol striker Felipe Caicedo this month, and he has a £7.3M release clause in his contract and the news is that Newcastle are now interested in the 53 times capped Ecuadorian International.

With Newcastle having now given up on both Saido Berahino of West Brom and Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon after failed attempts to sign them on a permanent basis ,  and with Loic Remy being chased by Premier League leaders Leicester City – Newcastle may have to quickly turn their attentions elsewhere.

Felipe Caicedo

27 yera-old Espanyol striker Felipe Caicedo

With striker being such a weakness in the Newcastle side this season, you would have thought a striker would have been our first signing and not our last this month – but the powers that be at the club sometimes work in strange ways.

Newcastle are reported ready to make  a move for the Espanyol forward, with Mundo Deportivo claiming that Everton are also keen on him and willing to pay the £7.3M release clause.

Caicedo is very keen to move to the Premier League and does have some experience in England having been  at Manchester City for three and a half years from January of 2008 and he played there 35 times with 3 goals.

Felipe left City in 2011 and played at Lokomotiv Moscow and Al Jazira before joining Espanyol in July of 2104 as a free agent.

Since he arrived in Spain he has scored 20 goals in 63 appearances for Espanyol who are currently 13th in La Liga.

Caicedo was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and the 6ft 1ins striker has scored 19 goals in 59 appearances for his country.

The news is that both Everton and Newcastle are now interested in the striker who has scored 7 goals in 21 total appearances in Spain.

He is also his country’s top scorer at the moment in World Cup qualification with four goals in Ecuador’s first four qualifying games.

Felipe made his debut for Ecuador way back in 2005 as a teenager and one attraction for Newcastle could be his versatility as he can play in a number of forward and midfield positions.

But he is not a prolific goalscorer and in his club career he has 78 goals in 286 appearances.

Caicedo may very soon become the number one target for Newcastle, simply because we must bring in a striker this month.

Betty…there are not that many obvious options. At this point Berahino doesn’t even look like an option.

I told you what kind a player I thought we should be looking at and gave you an example. Don’t be rude alright?

    Chancel

You’re agitating for a transfer to Welshy boyo’s blog and it ain’t gonna happen. You’re wit is invaluable to morale. So, just knuckle down and carry on doing what you’re good at!

And to matters more germain, Charnley’s had months to line up players for the positions we need ’em and here we are, flapping about.

If ever a so-called MD deserved the boot, Charnley does.

    Willo off to Wolves,

How ironic if we still struggled and still went down even tho Ashley has now decided to invest in the team appropriately..

You couldn’t make this sh1t up. We are in proper deep shit whoever comes through the door, under no illusions boys.

Really worried, we stud be going all out for a big CB, don’t understand that one.

You addressed a post towards me in the previous article. It appears something I said previously has somehow looked as if it was a dig at you, but I can assure you it wasn’t.
Was it my joke about him being 1 goal in 3.333 for england? That’s all it was, a joke. As far as I am concerned, the Jury is out. I have no problem with the stats you posted.

Rhodes has been talked up it seems. He has never shown his ability in the PL and Gayle us not setting the PL alight at Palace.
