Everton are said to be very keen to bring in 27 year-old Espanyol striker Felipe Caicedo this month, and he has a £7.3M release clause in his contract and the news is that Newcastle are now interested in the 53 times capped Ecuadorian International.
With Newcastle having now given up on both Saido Berahino of West Brom and Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon after failed attempts to sign them on a permanent basis , and with Loic Remy being chased by Premier League leaders Leicester City – Newcastle may have to quickly turn their attentions elsewhere.
27 yera-old Espanyol striker Felipe Caicedo
With striker being such a weakness in the Newcastle side this season, you would have thought a striker would have been our first signing and not our last this month – but the powers that be at the club sometimes work in strange ways.
Newcastle are reported ready to make a move for the Espanyol forward, with Mundo Deportivo claiming that Everton are also keen on him and willing to pay the £7.3M release clause.
Caicedo is very keen to move to the Premier League and does have some experience in England having been at Manchester City for three and a half years from January of 2008 and he played there 35 times with 3 goals.
Felipe left City in 2011 and played at Lokomotiv Moscow and Al Jazira before joining Espanyol in July of 2104 as a free agent.
Since he arrived in Spain he has scored 20 goals in 63 appearances for Espanyol who are currently 13th in La Liga.
Caicedo was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and the 6ft 1ins striker has scored 19 goals in 59 appearances for his country.
The news is that both Everton and Newcastle are now interested in the striker who has scored 7 goals in 21 total appearances in Spain.
He is also his country’s top scorer at the moment in World Cup qualification with four goals in Ecuador’s first four qualifying games.
Felipe made his debut for Ecuador way back in 2005 as a teenager and one attraction for Newcastle could be his versatility as he can play in a number of forward and midfield positions.
But he is not a prolific goalscorer and in his club career he has 78 goals in 286 appearances.
Caicedo may very soon become the number one target for Newcastle, simply because we must bring in a striker this month.

Comment #42Trouble is, every available striker is a gamble. We are going to have to take one before monday. Look at the adebeyor to palace move… could be inspired, could be a disaster.

Comment #50Besides it good to talk opposite it always works with the football matches, how many times in a match I’ve said this match is rubbish and then someone scores, or mention a players name saying he’s been awful and then two seconds later he scores.

Comment #57Chancel…I don’t really know our options. We are linked with Remy on loan and a big money offer for Berahino.
They are good options taking everything into consideration, but I don’t know of they will make the difference.
Lacazette is a very exciting option as well but will he take time to settle. I don’t really know what our options are. A played like Aubameyang is probably what we need but what we cannot get!

Comment #59With all the premium options for a striker not wanting to leave or unavailable to us this winter, it seems to me that we have no business left to do in the permanent. We don’t need a desperation buy. I feel the team is stronger than the bottom six as is. When, not if, we survive we should be reassessing the team then if we are bringing a striker in on a permanent deal. If Leicester bring in Remy I’d be shocked, we should go for him on loan and do what it takes. By the way… this this deal for Andros is going to be awful. At the very least Thauvin proved he could score at some point in his career.
