Report – Newcastle After The New Dele Alli

The Times are reporting that Newcastle sent a scout to watch the very impressive 19 year-old Coventry City midfielder James Maddison in action over the weekend.

James has been compared to Dele Alli who has made such an impact this season at Tottenham after the London club beat Newcastle to the signing of the teenager almost exactly a year ago.

As might be expected Newcastle again will face competition from Spurs, who are now (unfortunately for us) a much more successful club than Newcastle – and they have also been watching Maddison.

James Maddison – 19 year-old midfielder Coventry City

Other big clubs said to be interested in the teenager include Liverpool and Arsenal and that’s not surprising given the way Dele Alli has quickly made his impact in the Premier League and for England over these last six months.

But with Maddison being a top young player in the lower leagues it could be difficult for Newcastle to beat out Tottenham and other big clubs to his signature.

And given how well Mauricio Pochettino has expertly handled Dele Alli over the last six months, that will not have gone unnoticed by the Coventry City youngster and his representatives.

The Spurs manager has quickly brought the youngster through to be a top player at Spurs.

However, if would be a great signing if Newcastle can get this player through the door and hopefully we have learned from our hesitation in signing Dele Alli a year ago.

At that time we balked at the £5M price tag – but he’s now worth maybe five times that.

What’s that about “fortune favors the brave”?

Maddison made his debut for his home town club Coventry as a substitute in August 2014 in the League Cup against Cardiff City, but them missed a large portion of last season due to a back injury, when he was out for about four months returning last April.

James has so far played 30 times with four goals for Coventry.

Comments welcome.

Let’s stay linked with him for a couple of years and see how he does at Spurs, if he’s sh!te for them we might get him a bit cheaper.

Jail, I don’t think it is underhand but rather incompetent workmanship. We seem to ignore certain players and go all out for others – and usually end up with the bum deal.

I don’t really know but I hope it is not underhand. Strange though that we pay so much for certain players that the parent clubs want shot of….?

Surprised we paid so much for our New England Mafia but hope they work out. Not sure if anyone else will follow. Fingers crossed

Hope we get Remy as it is another bod through the doors and another goal option…..but I feel that this Remy chance will turn out to be the failure at the end of the window that keeps our hopes up. Please let me be wrong…

    Cypriot,
We all know Ashley is not interested in footballing success now, but surely he must be able to see that he is not actually getting that best pound for pound value needed to bolt the horse on to the cart, or was it the cart to the horse.

I’d take the yellow bellied, money grabbing mercenary in a heartbeat right now on the loan deal that I am very much against, we need goals and Mitro needs to be brought out of the spotlight.

    You happy with Remy ?
At this moment in time I think he would be a good fit. Hopefully scores enough to keep us up then have a look what’s available in the summer.
I haven’t seen enough of Berahino to really comment.
    What’s the thoughts fellas..
    Remy ?
    Berahino ?
    Other (within reason !)

Far from pound 4 pound value isn’t it jail.

I’m just hoping his fear of falling out of the prem will equate to some quality signings. How sad it has become…

Its hardly seen Newcastle giving chance to youngsters even though most of the seniors look alike clowns on the field. Idk why are we keeping and signing them for if just to make up the full list of youth development
