Newcastle have been reported today by Sky Italia to have put in a bid for 28 year-old Roma striker Seydou Doumbia who we have been linked with many times in the past going back to the summer of 2013 when he was still at CSKA Moscow.
He is currently back on loan at his former club in Moscow after signing on at Italian club Roma a year ago.
Update – According to Sky Sports Keith Dowie Newcastle want Doumbia on loan until the end of the season.

In the summer of 2014 Newcastle were constantly linked with the player and at that time his fee was said to be around £15M.
In January 2015, Doumbia joined Roma from CSKA Moscow on a four-and-a-half-year deal for an initial fee of €14.4 million, rising to a potential €15.9 million but then last August he returned to CSKA Moscow on a season-long loan deal.
He did not do well at Roma and scored only two goals in 14 appearances for them whereas back in Moscow he has 11 goals in 21 appearances for them.
Doumbia signed on at CSKA Moscow from BSC Young Boys in Switzerland back in January of 2010, and in 110 games for the Moscow side since then he has scored 74 goals, and last season he scored 20 goals in just 26 games.
In December of 2011 Doumbia was voted the Russian Premier League Player of the Year, after scoring 24 goals in 30 league games during that calendar year, and in addition to five Champions League goals in as many games – so he scored 29 goals in 35 total games that year.
Seydou has also played for Kashiwa Reysol and Tokushima Vortis in Japan, and in his career so far he has 167 goals in 289 total appearances, so he is quite a prolific goalscorer.
It will be interesting to see if the Sky Italia report is true.
