Newcastle Bid For Ivory Coast Striker

5:01 pm, Friday, January 29th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 24 Comments

Newcastle have been reported today by Sky Italia to have put in a bid for 28 year-old Roma striker Seydou Doumbia who we have been linked with many times in the past going back to the summer of 2013 when he was still at CSKA Moscow.

He is currently back on loan at his former club in Moscow after signing on at Italian club Roma a year ago.

Update – According to Sky Sports Keith Dowie Newcastle want Doumbia on loan until the end of the season.

Maybe he worries a lot?
🙂

In the summer of 2014 Newcastle were constantly linked with the player and at that time his fee was said to be around £15M.

In January 2015, Doumbia joined Roma from CSKA Moscow on a four-and-a-half-year deal for an initial fee of €14.4 million, rising to a potential €15.9 million but then last August he returned to CSKA Moscow on a season-long loan deal.

He did not do well at Roma and scored only two goals in 14 appearances for them whereas back in Moscow he has 11 goals in 21 appearances for them.

Doumbia signed on at CSKA Moscow from BSC Young Boys in Switzerland back in January of 2010, and in 110 games for the Moscow side since then he has scored 74 goals, and last season he scored 20 goals in just 26 games.

In December of 2011 Doumbia was voted the Russian Premier League Player of the Year, after scoring 24 goals in 30 league games during that calendar year, and in addition to five Champions League goals in as many games – so he scored 29 goals in 35 total games that year.

Seydou has also played for Kashiwa Reysol and Tokushima Vortis in Japan, and in his career so far he has 167 goals in 289 total appearances, so he is quite a prolific goalscorer.

It will be interesting to see if the Sky Italia report is true.

Comments welcome.

    TOON IN CLOSE TO SIQUEIRA

Sky Sources understand Newcastle are on the verge of agreeing to take Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira on loan until the summer.

Siqueira, 29, has made seven appearances for Atletico this season under Diego Simeone.

Good news if true !! We do need a proper left back !!

On 6 June 2014, Atlético Madrid and Granada reached an agreement for the transfer of Siqueira for a reported €10 million fee, pending a medical examination.[25][26] He signed a four-year contract after passing his medical, on 11 June 2014.[27] Upon joining the club, Siqueira said that “it did not take a second to decide” to join Atlético.[

The search for a st goes on. Leicester. .West ham…Swansea. ..Sunderland…. spurs…Liverpool. .Chelsea…Newcastle….man utd…are all still stabling for a st. Who will be left empty handed.
West ham..swansea…Sunderland spurs seem to closing in on their targets. Utd and Leicester are battling it out for must.

This leaves remy and berahino. Basically plan b and plan a who I think no one is in for. If West Bromwich get a good offer..They will surely sell. This will test our ambition. ..A free loan or a mega pound signing of berahino. .give him the no.9 jersey then

  • 4 Fostino // Jan 29, 2016 at 5:10 PM

Course remy is also Leicester fall back option too.

  • 7 WWSBRD // Jan 29, 2016 at 5:13 PM

Seems those who know more about this bloke than I say this would be very bad business

  • 8 Fostino // Jan 29, 2016 at 5:14 PM

So glad we’ve recognised lb as a problem now. I’m excited. Final piece of this wind is a st. Would have loved gibbs and berahino. ..E glide talent everywhere

Ballaque is saying he’s not as great at defending as is going forward I hope he will improve the side

  • 15 why oh why // Jan 29, 2016 at 5:18 PM

Just looked at the lb on you tube
    Looks to be a player
Hope we have an option to buy

I’ve seen this lad play for Moscow several times over the years, decent player and scores for fun.

I’d take a punt on him over Remy or Gomiss any day, think he could be perfect for the way we play.

  • 17 manxpie // Jan 29, 2016 at 5:19 PM

    He doesn’t look 28 tbh!

Haha tbf this LB has been linked with a lot of decent teams, was meant to go to Juve in the summer but it fell through and has previously been linked to the PL…and Atletico Madrid isnt the worst place to play

Pretty old though hes 29 seems outside our remit but if its just a loan makes sense to add experience…Brazilians in the PL though risky

  • 19 Hail Wor Ashley // Jan 29, 2016 at 5:22 PM

Siqueira will be a decent stop-gap until the summer I suppose to provide competition and somebody capable of overlapping Townsend. Does his best work going forward, can be rash in the tackle. Definitely not a long-term solution.

  • 20 optimistic prime // Jan 29, 2016 at 5:22 PM

It’s a worry he didn’t do more at Roma but I reckon it’s the league more than him.

He makes some great runs and is a clever passer, his goal scoring record speaks for itself.

  • 21 Big Pappa Cissé // Jan 29, 2016 at 5:24 PM

I hope Williamson leaving guarantees we are looking for at least one new defender with LB as a priority .
I would go for Gibbs as he will take no time to bed in.

Team after Jan fingers crossed :

    ——————————–Elliot————————–

    –Janmaat——–M’bemba———Collo——–Gibbs–

    ———————Saivet———–Shelvey—————-

    —Sissoko—————Wijnaldum———Townsend—

    ——————-Remy/Lacazette/Doumbia—————

If McLaren can’t keep that team up he should be shot .

  • 22 firebug666 // Jan 29, 2016 at 5:25 PM

    WWSBRD

Yeah but at 29 he will bring a lot of experience, and maybe if he does well he may get another year or two.

South Americans can be a bit hit and miss in the prem because most want to showcase skills and forget about the nitty gritty work.

But now and again you will get a good one, a real work horse type, a Jonas Guttierrez, and if he is that I will be a very happy man, Providing he comes here!

Really like this guy. He reminds of Bony but faster.

  • 24 mactoon // Jan 29, 2016 at 6:14 PM

Oh for gods sake just get Remy in on loan who we know will score the goals to give us the chance to stay up and stop gambling with unknown players
