Newcastle Trying For Three More Signings Before Monday

7:13 pm, Friday, January 29th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 194 Comments

Things are starting to go a little wild at Newcastle this afternoon into the evening with Sky Sports reporting it will be very busy over the next couple of days as Newcastle try to bring in another three players.

Newcastle have been linked with trying to bring in three players on loan today.

They are 28 year-old Roma striker Seydou Doumbia who we have been linked with many times in the past going back to the summer of 2013 when he was still at CSKA Moscow.

Doumbia only moved to Roma a year ago but he didn’t do well with only two goals in 15 appearances and he is currently on loan back at CSKA Moscow.

The 33 times capped Ivory Coast International has been a prolific goalscorer in his career.

Football Italia is reporting that Newcastle are now the favorites to sign the Roma striker after Fenerbahce talks broke down and Newcastle are now in advanced negotiations for Doumbia.

The 28 year-old powerful striker is said to be eager to join the Premier League and so talks are expected to progress quickly.

Football Italia also report there has been interest from Fenerbahce, Swansea and Sunderland, but nothing came of those negotiations.

Earlier today we were linked with wanting Valencia left-back Lucas Orban, who can also play at center-back and the Argentine International would be an excellent signing for us.

We have also been linked this afternoon with 29 year-old Atletico Madrid’s Brazilian left back Guilherme Siqueira and Sky Sports are reporting that deal is all but one and that he is expected to be in Newcastle over the weekend to take his medical.

It’s not clear with Siqueira coming for a medical whether that means our interest in Lucas Orban will end.

There may also be other targets Newcastle are after which have not broken in the press yet.

One big disappointment if this afternoon’s Mirror report is true is that it seems Leicester City have beaten us to the signing of Loic Remy.

The Chronicle is also reporting Newcastle plan to be busy in the next few days to bring more players in and signings could go down to the wire at 11:00 pm Monday night.

Comments welcome.

This atletico left back were linked with. Haven’t seen him this year but last year he was decent for them but agree with the majority of people who say he is not he best defender. He’s not and is a stop gap for somebody like willems signing this summer which I’m ok with but being honest I’m fairly old fashioned and prefer full backs to be defenders first and foremost which neither are. Although willems is actually tremendous going forward.

I think dummett is underrated and will be a regular feature for us. Defenders have to defend first and foremost. I wud take doumbia ahead of remy who looks like he peaked a few years ago and wont raise a gallop for us.

    Yer right 🙂

Here it would be a bit shit for Mikey if we did relegated after this window.

I reckon we’re probably still doomed if we don’t sign a striker to be honest.

  • 11 will die for the toon army // Jan 29, 2016 at 7:23 PM

Dummett is underestimated and for me he is my Colo successor. I wldnt look any where and waste my money.

With Lascesles and Dummett why waste my money to buy a new CB.

It’s difficult to believe anything as far as Newcastle and transfers are concerned. Take Remy to Leicester, okay so they are near the top of the Premiership but can they afford his wages because by all accounts their cap is £60k pw and Remy is alleged to be on £90k pw. Next is why should it matter to a loanee who joins a club half way through the season because it’s not as if they would have contributed to the early success which could easily fizzle out as Newcastle could prosper. Na sorry. The only reason Remy wouldn’t join us is because he simply doesn’t want to and no other reason. But it makes great reading fodder for the papers !

Let’s hope Ashley’s set the wheels in motion to get the pair of them replaced before the end of the season.

  • 53 lesh // Jan 29, 2016 at 8:07 PM

Of course Leicester can afford Remy’s wages.

The amount of money they’ll receive next year puts the same position as us. But the difference is that they’ll speculate to succeed rather than gamble on making a profit on players.

  • 55 jimiley // Jan 29, 2016 at 8:09 PM

Somebody needs to tell Carr that we are stuffed with top quality strikers, centre backs and full backs but are woefully short of wingers and especially midfield players. With a quality line management of Ashley, Penfold Carr and McClaren, I know that they will deliver a midfield player. Who needs a striker when the clubs hotshot has scored forty, I mean four league goals in 20 odd games. More midfielders Mr Carr please!!!!!

  • 56 welshgeordie9 // Jan 29, 2016 at 8:10 PM

If we do get Doumbia and one of the left backs on loan I think it will be a good move.

The club obviously can’t get a deal sorted this window (which is notoriously hard) for their preferred targets. So a couple of decent loan signings to help us out until the summer seems like a good idea.

Doumbia could work out to be a great signing for us. He looks like he’s well suited to the premiership. That’s if it’s true.

So now talk of a striker, AND left back. Too good to be true, although frankly even if it were too happen, exchanging Tiote for the untested and relatively unaccomplished Saivet appears an unnecessary gamble at first sight.

But, if we do manage to get a couple of decent players in, in those positions, then you’d have to say fair play, although whether it will be enough to overcome the previous years gaffes remains to be seen, and will be over the next only 15 games we have to save our season. 15 games on the tail end of over a seasons worth of undoubted relegation form. Crikey!

  • 113 SuperShearer // Jan 29, 2016 at 9:54 PM

Wouldn’t that be considered rather unsporting of Spurs, bearing in mind our relative need. They are going for the title though I suppose.

Sounds more like the sort of dirty trick our own owner might commonly be believed to be capable of stooping to though, given the chance.

Doumbia Champions League scoring record since 11/12:

    23 app
    19 start
    1790 mins

If he can do it in the CL I’m sure he can in the PL
    16 goals
    Goal every 112 mins

  • 122 JackButler // Jan 29, 2016 at 10:15 PM

I rate Doumbia very highly and think he’d be a great addition………..but, seeings as we have only a few days left in the window and we have failed to address the ever present issues with the squad I worry that all these links are simply PR/BS as the club know that if we don’t sign two or three more players we are in real danger of going down and they face map massive shyte storm.

Also find it very telling that it’s being reported that Ashkey had to step in again to get the Townsend deal done, which again points to Charnelys incompetence just as it did when he was forced to step in a couple of January’s ago.

As fans we can all see the flaws with the top two people at the club, namely Charnley and Carr, and Ashley can be no fool so who knows what he could possibly do and whether he even cares that much to do anything as he’s happy simply to survive and nothing more as survival means TV money

Berahino is overweight & doesn’t look match fit – big risk at money being quoted. He is a carpetbagger. Definition – a person who places expediency above principle. Also A northerner who moved south for profit (American Civil War.)
Remy is tarred with the same brush – always preferred the south to the north for financial gain.

Between Young Boys and CSKA he played 160 games with 111 goals, his time at Roma was poor but they have been poor overall, so much so their manager, who is regard very highly was sacked. I’d be very, very happy if the lad did come to us

  • 142 West Lancs Geordie // Jan 29, 2016 at 10:41 PM

WWSBRD Remy has snubbed us too many times now. If he’s not good enough for Chelski where they are in the league at present ,then he’s not good enough for us.
IMO Berahino may also be trouble & far too much money being quoted.I just think Doumbia (wages £67500w) may prove a better bet at this stage. Money does not always bring instant success especially at the Toon.. Example Albert Luque ,Cabella Owen & Thauvin to name just four

  • 143 JackButler // Jan 29, 2016 at 10:42 PM

Nothing is guaranteed in this world but if we get these three positions strengthen then the powers that be have at least tried to do what the fans have asked for despite what all feel about the current regime. Yes Cashley is a dodgy businessman & is only in it for financial gain but I agree he is shrewd & ruthless to get what he wants. WWSBRD Don’t have a clue what Berahino would want in wages but allegedly per internet he is currently on £67,692PW at WBA. Ironically almost identical figure to what Roma are allegedly paying Doumbia.
I think we each have our own views on the matter &much agree to beg to differ.
My point about money is Remy & Berahino are favouring short term cash in favour of not enhancing their ambitions to play football for their respective countries in the Euros. If Remy goes to Foxes he will get less playing time than if he were to come to us & Berahino would do the same going to Spurs.

Berah playing for a bigger club and believing he can break into the team is favouring short term cash. Also why will Remy get less playing time at the foxes? Id be surprised if he wasnt a starting player there

  • 165 ronaldo aarons // Jan 29, 2016 at 11:22 PM

Berahino is not on anywhere near 60k lol. I’d love him to join us, regardless of overpaying. I’m a big fan and really don’t believe this bad attitude that pulis and WBA have been portraying. He’s a young boy who given a chance scored 20 goals in all competitions. At that age in a crap WBA team is great. I enjoy watching his style of play too. He will get so much better in a few years.

If we’re really chasing doumbia then I’m not sure if he’ll do well in this league. He is a good player and has good pace and finishing ability but I really don’t think he’s made for this league. Other players have come to this league and despite being good players haven’t fared well and feel he’s the same.

If we’re looking at an African striker I would very much look at oumar niasse. Similar to doumbia but with a great work rates and a good team player who not only scores but sets up. Plus he’s Senegalese so I don’t think he’ll be at the next ACON.

Ashley has left it to late to spend the cash and an idiot has been left in charge of the scouting for players if you can’t see that buying Austin for 4million was a real bargain what hope have you got. You spend way to long watching players and by the time you say do you wanna join Newcastle they have already played their first match for their new club ” The term you snooze you lose” comes to mind.

If we haven’t signed a striker this window we are screwed big time as it is clear that nobody is helping Mitrovic to learn how to kick the ball properly.

I can’t believe what I’m seeing! We are supposedly bringing in 3 players and people complain about desperation. I’m sorry berahino is a good young kid, but anybody slating doumbia as desperation needs a shake. The man is a scoring machine, a champions league scoring machine. He’s scored more goals in the coupons league than berahino has scored in 2 of his 3 previous full seasons. Last year or the year before everybody would’ve laughed us off this blog for suggesting doumbia, now we are trying to do it and people are still not happy? I get that people have here preferences, but this left back I’ll admit not seen much of him but he’s coming in to cover a position we wanted strengthened so isn’t that good enough? He’s a Brazilian international, not some u20 prospect from ajjacio in France

For what it is worth, I believe it was never our intention to sign Austin because the player made it obvious he wanted to stay in the south. Never underestimate the power of women in such circumstances.

With regard to our signings, if he cannot get his girst choice largely due to our current plight, then the club is wise to adopt the principle of signing reasonably quality loans in the hope we can avoid relegation, stay in the PL and go after our first choices again in the summer.
