There are various reports in Spain today suggesting that the proposed deal to bring Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira to Newcastle on loan may be off.
The reports suggest that Siqueira prefers a move to Valencia in order to guarantee first team football, rather than come to Newcastle for a short-term loan deal through the end of the season.
Lucas Orban – Valencia defender – move to Newcastle?
Presumably that could mean that he has not been guaranteed first team football during his loan deal at Newcastle – but that would be a little strange as he is much more experienced than Paul Dummett.
It just shows you that you cannot assume anything in the transfer market until the guy signs along the bottom line after he has passed his medical.
There was a Sky Sports report yesterday that said Siqueira would be in Newcastle this weekend to take his medical and sign the deal.
However, Newcastle were also linked with Valencia’s left back Lucas Orban yesterday and he can play at center-back and the twice capped Argentine International looks a good player.
If the reports are true that Guilherme Siqueira will move to Valencia instead of Newcastle that could open it up for Orban to join Newcastle on a loan deal from Gay Neville’s club.
We weren’t going to sign both left backs – that’s for sure.
But nothing is certain and worrying reports in France today that Newcastle are in talks with Swansea to sign former target Bafe Gomis – and that’s not good news.
Bafe would be only an average signing for us and he’s not the natural goalscorer we need to save us from relegation.
So while things looked really upbeat last night with Newcastle said to be in advanced talks to sign 28 year-old Roma striker Seydou Doumbia – as well as Siqueira coming for a medical – it’s dangerous to assume too much too quickly.
The 26-year-old Argentine defender joined Valencia in 2014 but he’s made only 12 appearances in all competitions this season.
There’s a report today in the Express that Newcastle want him and he can also play at center-back so he would be a good addition to the Newcastle side, since he doesn’t seem to feature in Gary Neville’s plans this season.
