Are Newcastle Moving For Orban – Is Siqueira Deal In Trouble?

2:10 pm, Saturday, January 30th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 36 Comments

There are various reports in Spain today suggesting that the proposed deal to bring Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira to Newcastle on loan may be off.

The reports suggest that Siqueira prefers a move to Valencia in order to guarantee first team football, rather than come to Newcastle for a short-term loan deal through the end of the season.

Lucas Orban – Valencia defender – move to Newcastle?

Presumably that could mean that he has not been guaranteed first team football during his loan deal at Newcastle – but that would be a little strange as he is much more experienced than Paul Dummett.

It just shows you that you cannot assume anything in the transfer market until the guy signs along the bottom line after he has passed his medical.

There was a Sky Sports report yesterday that said Siqueira would be in Newcastle this weekend to take his medical and sign the deal.

However, Newcastle  were also linked with Valencia’s left back Lucas Orban yesterday and he can play at center-back and the twice capped Argentine International looks a good player.

If the reports are true that Guilherme Siqueira will move to Valencia instead of Newcastle that could open it up for Orban to join Newcastle on a loan deal from Gay Neville’s club.

We weren’t going to sign both left backs – that’s for sure.

But nothing is certain and worrying reports in France today that Newcastle are in talks with Swansea to sign former target Bafe Gomis – and that’s not good news.

Bafe would be only an average signing for us and he’s not the natural goalscorer we need to save us from relegation.

So while things looked really upbeat last night with Newcastle said to be in advanced talks to sign 28 year-old Roma striker Seydou Doumbia – as well as Siqueira coming for a medical – it’s dangerous to assume too much too quickly.

The 26-year-old Argentine defender joined Valencia in 2014 but he’s made only 12 appearances in all competitions this season.

There’s a report today in the Express that Newcastle want him and he can also play at center-back so he would be a good addition to the Newcastle side, since he doesn’t seem to feature in Gary Neville’s plans this season.

Comments welcome.

    Ashley Out!

To be honest I haven’t been on much during Transfer Fiasco as it’s like trying to swat flies on a rubbish dump, but I see the AA are still holding meetings in honour of their portly patron.

Siqueira not coming off to valencia for 1st team footy,he was told he would be back up to dummet.

  • 5 JackButler // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:18 PM

My nan would be p1ssed at being behind Dummett in the pecking order and she’s been dead for years, but this just another sign of the small minded mentality at the club, any player coming in should be for the starting 11 as we need to drastically improve or face going down. Signing a back up to a very poor player is madness

    Jack Butler
You make stuff up then get infuriated about it !
    Strange behaviour for an adult

I’ll take Orban any day of the week. Very strong defensively and significantly better than Dummet and Haidara going forward. Siqueira would be more attacking, but not a great tackler and wouldn’t improve our defense. I’m hoping Valencia looking to take Siqueira as replacement for Orban, but if he does arrive at SJP our left side attacking threat will be hugely boosted – Siqueira + Townsend.

    I make stuff up?

Florian Thauvin expected to arrive in Marseille this afternoon to complete move back to OM!

Worrying indeed mate, almost as worrying as being singled out by Jib, my troubles just doubled………………poor me 😉

  • 12 belgrade fan // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:41 PM

Is it even a possible that a so limited player like Dummitt can be ahead of Atl Madrid or Valencia left back???? so Jetro would also be sub for him ?? retarded

  • 13 JP...from The Rock // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:41 PM

Either of the two would be better than what we have already. But it is a concern that we will be getting Valencia’s unwanted LB whilst they go and replace him with our first choice LB in Siquiera.

  • 14 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:43 PM

I would not be pissing off a solid player like Dummett by replacing him with some fancy foregn guy who is better attacking than defending. Especially as he’d be on loan. Here today gone tomorrow. What is the statistic on Dummett playing and the number of points we’ve won this season? Some fans hear a fancy foreign name and are automatically disappointed if we don’t sign him. I see it on here time and again.

  • 15 WWSBRD // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:44 PM

Just ignore him mate it’s the best way to deal with it

On subject if I was a CL experienced LB with a la liga title under my belt being told to play second fiddle to an out of position CB wouldn’t have me jumping on a plane to NUFC

  • 16 Toon-Prodigy // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:45 PM

Im happy if we bring someone in. It’s more for competition i see nothing wrong with that. We need some depth in there.

    All good.

Something has to have been lost along the way as I can’t see even this deluded lot bringing in back up to a player who is nowhere near good enough, I know we are getting desperate but even this lot can’t be that stupid can they???

  • 18 WWSBRD // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:49 PM

Though Siqueira won’t be getting first team football at Valencia either

  • 19 ToonRich // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:49 PM

SSN panel saying WBA want Bera to see out the last 18mth of his contract…the panel think it’s a ploy to push our hand! They think £18m is a fair offer and that we’d be getting a good player if we can get his head right…

Why is it that some of you, particularly Rotonda and B&B, think that because you are over 55 you become incapable and senile? You may slow down physically but you still have your brain, wit and experience, that doesn’t leave you!
First, the guy is in his seventies not just over 55. Second, that’s about the time your body is winding down for death. You suffer illnesses, and lose your faculties (you’ve lost your dynamism years ago). Sorry to put it so bluntly but it’s a biological fact.

  • 21 JackButler // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:51 PM

That’s the issue mate, Dummett isn’t a solid player, he’s poor and a poor player that is more or less guaranteed to start, he never has been and never will be a premier league quality left back. Far to many of our starting 11 are simply not good enough, hence our current predicament

  • 22 WWSBRD // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:52 PM

One could hope not but NUFC is a unique beast

  • 23 SPRINGY // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:52 PM

jeff stelling and the lads on soocer sat having a few good things to say about berahino…about him starting charities and helping housing projects…reckon 18m is a good deal for everyone and wba should sell as this time next year he’ll be worth nowt.

  • 24 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:54 PM

I don’t know anyone who’s at the top of their game in their seventies, unless their game is pulling grannies and bingo.

  • 25 spaghetti bandit // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:54 PM

I think we can still get berahino,, he has 18 months left on his deal therefore west brom are losing money on him every day from when this window shuts and he is never signing a new contract,, with spurs now signing dembele who else is guna stump up tha cash,, there will be no bidding war for berahino,, peace is jus being a greedy tw#t!! We definitely have 18 sitting on the table by next transfer window tht is halfed atleast,, after tht the kid is a free.. Gomis rumours are jus to test peaces hand,, no chance he is coming here,, surely not there is no way he can play on same field as mitro for a start,, plus he does not score goals

  • 26 SPRINGY // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:55 PM

    soccer not soocer!lol

  • 27 JackButler // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:56 PM

His value could drop by half in the summer because of his contract situation, if he was playing regularly then I could understand not wanting to sell but he’s on the bench, so I think they are trying to get the maximum amount for him

  • 28 SPRINGY // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:56 PM

    sounds like it

  • 29 reilly // Jan 30, 2016 at 2:57 PM

has anyone read this,it might be true it might not be.

  • 30 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 30, 2016 at 3:00 PM

Merson’s had me howling. Especially when he was on about Martinez and John Stones. He’s also making the points I rrgularly make on here. You want defenders to defend first and foremost. And he favours 4-4-2 and is bemused by other fancy systems (so loved on here).

I see Thompson is currently criticising our defence for Watford’s goal, being far too high. Well that can only point to one thing: Colo’s leadership and positioning.

B&B sorry but a post like 20 shows you really are a No1 Tit

  • 32 lesh // Jan 30, 2016 at 3:41 PM

When I first saw Orban’s name, I read it as Obertan!

    Hope that’s not an omen.

  • 33 TroubledToon // Jan 30, 2016 at 5:27 PM

Poor ol Gary Neville. Ed’s really done a number on him 😀

  • 34 MassiveG // Jan 30, 2016 at 5:27 PM

Um…..if he knows that he’s getting 1st team football at Valencia that means he’s clearly better than Orban so we’re clearly getting second best
