It looks like Newcastle have missed out on all the strikers we have gone after this month – Alexandre Lacazette, Saido Berahino and Loic Remy and perhaps we didn’t even bid for the bargain buy Charlie Austin of QPR who went to Southampton for £4M.
So it looks like we are trying to buy Swansea’s Bafe Gomis, a player who we bid £9M for back in the summer of 2013 – and he now has a release clause in his contract of £7M.
Bafe Gomis – Swansea striker
But if the news is to be believed Bafe is the one we are trying to sign so late in this transfer window- and he’s simply not good enough to rescue Newcastle from relegation.
Why have Swansea brought in another striker with Gomis still on their books?
A good question to ask those who run Newcastle is – since a striker was always the highest priority in this transfer window – how come we have a couple of days to go in the window and haven’t signed a striker yet – and we are basically down to a last minute panic buy.
Loic Remy looks like he’s going to Leicester City who are said to have had a £11.5M bid accepted by Chelsea – and it’s likely the French striker would rather go to a team fighting to win the Premier League than one fighting to stay in the Premier League.
Bafe Gomis is not the man we need – it’s as easy as that – and if we do get relegated put it down to the inability of Newcastle to bring in a top striker in this transfer window – when it was obvious what we needed a couple of months into the season.
In fact it was obvious in the summer when we balked at bringing in Charlie Austin.
How many more points do you think Newcastle would have this season if we had bought Charlie Austin last summer?
It will be very disappointing if Bafe Gomis is the striker Newcastle end up signing in this transfer window.
