This Player Expected To Sign For Newcastle Today

9:03 am, Saturday, January 30th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 27 Comments

Newcastle could compete their fourth signing for the January transfer window and that could even come as early as today as we are expected to sign Atletico Madrid´s Brazilian left-back Guilherme Siqueira on loan for the rest of the season.

And it´s good that we will have finally signed a defender and for one of our weaker positions – left back.

Guilherme Siqueira – having medical today?

Here´s what Sky Sports Guillem Balague has tweeted about the player today.

The news from Sky Sports yesterday was that Guilherme Siqueira would have his medical this weekend, but Newcastle will want to get him signed today with maybe two more players still to be signed by Monday night.

Comments welcome.

I know nowt about this lad but looks Guillem reckons he’s a bit like Janmaat which certainly means our midfield will be working hard on both flanks covering for the full backs.

Hope Maclaren knows what he’s doing!!!

TS…then it’s a good thing Middlesbrough have bid for him!

I’m not sure if we do need a forward right now. Mitrovic is getting better, doing everything but scoring. He’s linking play for others to get goals which is good.

I would like a quality CB but Taylor is now fit (probably for 3/4 weeks) and they seem to like Lascelles….so maybe they do not think one is needed.

We had no out and out winger but Aaron’s so bought one, no quality passer in the midfield so bought shelvey, no fit left back so seem to be getting one….we are addressing some problems.

Never easy to buy quality players in January before a major tournament as they wont want to move and risk losing their place in the national team…also clubs know if they hang on their price will double if they have a good summer tournament.

Not as great at defending as he is at attacking? Can we afford to have someone not great at defending when we can’t seem to stop letting goals in?

  • 5 defenders needed // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:09 AM

I agree sparky I hope he does know what he’s doing

I think he’ll get boro promoted in all honesty….they need a proper forward who scores regularly.

Hope they come up, need more north eastern teams in the league.

Also means who ever we face now have to pay attention to our left side as all season it’s been a rather large joke

  • 8 WWSBRD // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:11 AM

Defender who struggle to defend can trump that by simply keeping the opposition pinned back with their attacks

A signing like this doesn’t make sense to me. It’s not a player we have been linked with before and he clearly cannot get games at his club.

If they wanted a player like that Gibbs would make sense.

  • 10 defenders needed // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:12 AM

Wwsbrd yeah we will have a much more balanced team but how is he at defending and will he be capable of stepping up to the premier league

  • 11 Transfer Sage // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:13 AM

    I wouldn’t touch Gibbs.

Regularly injured and don’t think Arsenal would let their left back cover go during a title run in.

Honestly not trying to have a go Jesper, just genuinely have different opinions today 🙂

  • 12 defenders needed // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:15 AM

Ts but Gibbs knows the premier league and he is a quality player when he’s fit he’s English and we would know what we are getting with Gibbs

  • 13 WWSBRD // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:16 AM

Dunno but both Madrids wanted him and he’s played a lot for Athletico last season (think they won the league?)

He might end up being a bang average LB but even that will be 10x better than Dummett at LB

  • 14 Transfer Sage // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:18 AM

    Defenders needed

I just don’t think Arsenal will sell. Imagine if they did and Monreal got injured the day after.

Why would they leave themselves with no cover on the left when this is their best chance at the title for 7/8 years.

TS…I would happily have Middlesbrough back up mate 🙂 definitely the likable on of the other teams in the north!

  • 16 defenders needed // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:20 AM

Yeah you’s are both right the main thing is we are finally getting our weakest position filled

  • 17 corkypants // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:21 AM

who needs defenders attack attack attack attack attack seems to be schtevies mantra!! only problem is we cant score for toffee!!!

  • 18 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:21 AM

TS…that’s alright mate. Great minds doesn’t always think alike 😉

  • 19 Transfer Sage // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:22 AM

To be honest I don’t care who we sign and how much they cost.

If they can get a good player that helps us climb the league fantastic. It’s what we need now.

  • 20 WWSBRD // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:29 AM

    Right there with u

  • 21 WWSBRD // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:32 AM

Gomis heavily linked to us in France…really unimpressed if he signs

  • 22 Nufc-83 // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:34 AM

WWSBRD spot on will mean we have a balanced side meaning the rb of the opposition won’t bomb forward without thinking and should reduce chances for the opposition. We should have more possession and more chances again reducing the chances of the opposition. You don’t have to be an amazing defender to defend well as a team.

All we can can do os try him, if it works out great, if not, at least we tried. I’m all for attacking players. The more efficient you get at keeping the ball and attacking, those fullbacks who aren’t the best at defending are actually doing the defending already, simply by being in possession. The team is also working on scoring as well, not just holding onto a score line for a little longer.

Some of those defenders who can defend better (not even by much) can also limit our attacks, not comfortable on the ball, so contribute to lose possession more. What’s worse, aren’t doing anything particularly productive with the ball.

That’s my view anyway. All depends on the individual though.

Hope we have our scouts watching the Oxford v Blackburn cup game. Looking at Kemar Roofe who’s two goals killed off Swansea. He was widely covered on tv and Alan Smith ex Arsenal raves about him. We could with additional ST cover.
I am sure Welshy will remember him.

  • 25 WWSBRD // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:39 AM

That’s how I hope it works out as tbh our left side this season has been embarrassing

  • 26 Nufc-83 // Jan 30, 2016 at 9:52 AM

On gomis I honestly believe shelvey has said go get him as they used to link up really well and shelvey used to look for him all the time over the top. At the moment he won’t be relishing having mitro in front of him who doesn’t make any runs in behind taking away a big part of his game. I do like mitro but I think he needs to be the Deeney with someone playing up with him like ighalo

  • 27 Blackstarbullet // Jan 30, 2016 at 8:38 PM

Can’t see him coming here now that Valencia want him.
