Newcastle Make Club Record £21M Bid For Saido Berahino

It doesn’t look like Newcastle are waiting for tomorrow to come before they make their bid for Saido Berahino, with Sky Sports reporting that Newcastle have just bid a whopping £21M for the England U21 International.

Don’t be surprised if this first bid from Newcastle is turned down – the real question is how high are Newcastle willing to go to try to get their man?

saido berahino

Saido Berahino – Newcastle launch £21M record bid

And Newcastle will be paying cash up front – unlike Spurs if they come in with a bid – it will be via installments.

By coming in now with about 32 hours left in the window Newcastle have given West Brom time to get in a new striker – like Jordan Rhodes for example from Blackburn.

This is a good well thought out move by Newcastle.

It’s also obvious the powers that be at Newcastle are really worried about relegation and they are going all out like there is no tomorrow.

If we get relegated there may be no tomorrow.

🙂

If Newcastle somehow get a bid accepted for Saido, it will be the most Newcastle have ever paid our for a player, beating the £17M we paid Real Madrid for Michael Owen in the summer of 2005.

It will also bring the spending this month to a whopping £50M – and an enormous £102M since last season.

    Jack

It’s been thoroughly reported in the papers and television that he wants to go to Spurs.

A cash bid will blow just about every other club out of contention, Spurs are renowned for signing everyone on what amounts to HP.

Money is king in this game and I can’t see WBA turning that bid down for a player who isn’t playing for them and has eighteen months left on his contract

From last thread – I was annoyed at selling Carroll, not because $35m wasn’t enough but because it was on the last day of the window, even if we wanted to spend the money we couldn’t! Similar issue with WBA, what’s the point in selling now unless they think value is going to drop over next six months, looks to be enough interest for that not to be the case. Hope I’m wrong though 🙂

It’s also been reported that we have three bids turned down for the lad but the WBA chairman has also said that they have not received a single bid for the lad up until this weekend. What’s reported in the press has to be taken with a pinch of salt especially during the transfer window as NUFC alone have been link with around 100 players.

To bid for a player, They must have had positive feedback from the player-Agent that he wants to come to Nufc.

I am really gobsmacked that Ashley is spending this sort of money. Talk about assembling a quality team…..Hopefully not to late to stop us going down

Protecting his investment or getting serious about wanting to win something, would be absolutely fantastic if it was the latter !

£21m is a strange offer, perhaps WBA have named their price and Newcastle have met it.

As I said in an earlier posting that ‘money talks’ and WBA know they have an unhappy player who will be on a free in no time at all.

Also, the player will probably get paid quite a bit more with us.

The Mail is reporting that the 22 year-old England U21 International Saido Berahino has made it clear that he would like to join Newcastle this month, but it´s all still dependent on West Brom Chairman Jeremy Peace as it looks like he wants to get as high a fee as possible for the want away star – and maybe willing to wait for the summer to get that massive fee

    Slank
Documented he want’s to come here as well pal. Happy days ahead hopefully

It’s an identical scenario to Carroll. The WBA chairman thinks he has enough points in the bag to survive but you never know. We just survived that season by the skin of our teeth.
Need to tweek the 25 man squad now. As things stand with no further departures after Willo,Thauvin & Tiote (if he has in fact gone) & Bigi at Coventry on loan. Need to deregister Good. That’s assuming Obertan, Riviere, Marvaux & Gouffy stay

Unfortunately after eight years of putting up with sh!te I am still sceptical that this is only to protect what is a potential £270M windfall coming his way !

I loved your comments about our three bids being reported but then you go on to say that what’s being reported should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Classic, but I’m sure it wasn’t how you wanted to say it.

His price would plummet come the summer, I’d be amazed if anyone offers the same amount then as we are reported to be offering today, look at Austin

I meant when the likes of the Star, the Sun etc etc report they can be taken with a pinch of salt, but when it’s reported by the likes of Sky and they quote the exact amount and the fact that it’s a cash bid, it has far more substance to it.

Apparently WBA have said throughout that he is not for sale so I don’t understand why we have bid and made it so public. Could it just be to show the fans that we tried?

Don’t get me wrong as I think he will be a great signing.

And all this talk about him being a bit difficult I’m not duly concerned as leaving WBA will be for him leaving a bit of a nightmare behind and a new opportunity to show what he can do to get a place in the England team as I’m sure Townsend and Shelvey are of the same mind.

It’s hard to set a value for a player like Berahino. While anything over £20m is over the odds from a WBA perspective (with only 18 months to go on his contract), from a NUFC perspective it is probably good value. If he can be the difference between going down and climbing up the table with better seasons to come, it makes good business sense to pay what it takes to get him on sides. I’ve gotta say, despite all the flak he has picked up over the past few years, it see,s to me that MA is showing some serious ambition at the moment.

You know what i for 1 was a Ashley smasher but in all honestly ive got a sneaky feeling that im going to have to eat a piece of humble pie so big ill be chocking for years it seems like all of that money we accused him of losing or nicking was in fact put away for larger ambitions in the future,

They say the proof is in the pudding, well dont know about you but i feel a big tasty apple pie and custard could be served up,

Just glad there will be another couple of million toon fans chocking on that humble pie to,you cant say there is no effort being put into things now it looks to me like the beginning of something very special COME ON!!
