It doesn’t look like Newcastle are waiting for tomorrow to come before they make their bid for Saido Berahino, with Sky Sports reporting that Newcastle have just bid a whopping £21M for the England U21 International.
Don’t be surprised if this first bid from Newcastle is turned down – the real question is how high are Newcastle willing to go to try to get their man?
Saido Berahino – Newcastle launch £21M record bid
And Newcastle will be paying cash up front – unlike Spurs if they come in with a bid – it will be via installments.
By coming in now with about 32 hours left in the window Newcastle have given West Brom time to get in a new striker – like Jordan Rhodes for example from Blackburn.
This is a good well thought out move by Newcastle.
It’s also obvious the powers that be at Newcastle are really worried about relegation and they are going all out like there is no tomorrow.
If we get relegated there may be no tomorrow.
🙂
If Newcastle somehow get a bid accepted for Saido, it will be the most Newcastle have ever paid our for a player, beating the £17M we paid Real Madrid for Michael Owen in the summer of 2005.
It will also bring the spending this month to a whopping £50M – and an enormous £102M since last season.

Comment #82I think some of these signings are happening now not only because of the league position but a few will be off in the summer, the likes of Tiote and Sissoko will no doubt be on their way

He spent quite good money in the summer this season imo we have seen the best set of players been brought in for a long time i think these winter signings were all ready on the radar just been brought forward,so ive got to be honest praise where praise is due but the team is beginning to look proper good to me, im not going to continuously knock Ashley just for the sake of it,
I know we have been kicked in the teeth in the past but i dont see any reason why you would spend what nearly £70 million and rising if you wanted to deliberately sabotage the show,it doesnt make sense.
maybe its just time
bloody hope so?

As I said earlier it will make a nice change for the management to have a squad of 15-16 players that are actually first team quality, Rather than just having the nuclease of a good squad.
Come the summer and the right investment in the back line we could have a bench of Krull-Collo-Mbabu-Dummett-Anita-Colback-Perez-Aarons-Sdj-Mitro/Doumbia the choices are endless
why oh why

I’ve responded more fully a few posts back to your fanciful claim that your argument is “nuanced” and to your exposition of logical reasoning – as if providing that exposition proves you are the master.
This is very simple. I’m saying ageing affects mental and physical performance. When you reach your seventies, mental powers deteriorate, memory wanes, decision making skills become increasingly impaired. The science supports that.
If you’re disagreeing with me, then surely you’re saying that never happens? That alzheimers or dementia, even the early stages, could not be affecting Carr’s decision making ability? No chance.
Your reasoning is that any person, no matter what age, could make the mistakes Carr has made. I’ve never disagreed with that. Of course, there are other poor performers out there. Carr might have made those same mistakes in his 40s, improved in his fifties, and early sixties, but dropped back again in his late sixties and seventies. Why not? The science supports it. We die in our seventies and eighties, and usually we gradually deteriorate up to the time of death. We don’t just deteriorate physically. Our brains get smaller. We lose millions of brain cells every day and our memory becomes impaired, some people’s more than others.
I’ve simply criticised Carr’s performance. His performance would indicate a man who is “past it”, no longer at the top of his game. Who knows, possibly even the early onset of alzheimers?
Of course, if you think Carr’s performance has been good, you’re not going to agree with that. But that’s not the point. You seem to be denying that it’s even a possibility. That I can’t possibly be right.
You gave the Churchill example. All that did was support my point. It shows Churchill held high office at a grand old age. However, it says nothing about his performance at that time. When you look at his performance at that time, you see he performed poorly, and not just in comparison to his war time leadership. So you scored a clear own goal with that one.

Just put in a feeler mate to test the response. It boils down to whether Peace needs the cash or not eh !
We had all this stand off with Levy over townsend, So hopefully negotiations continue and Nufc get the outcome they are after.
I think it will take 25 plus mill to seal the deal. A lot of money for a player who has only really had one good season

Comment #99Would be great if we could pull it off . Don’t see it happening though somehow but I will keep my fingers crossed . I get the feeling we have brought in Doumbia because of the unlikelihood of this transfer .
We have seen that if you know a player can do it in the PL and is relatively young £20-25 million is nothing for a player that could potentially be at the club 10 years . Plus he is only going to get better as he matures .
Still think we desperately need a new LB which looks likely however we are still taking a huge gamble not looking for a CB as we are one injury away from a crisis .
Team to keep us in the PL and push on next year :
——————————–Elliot—————————
–Janmaat——–M’bemba——–Collocini——–LB?–
——————————Shelvey————————-
—Sissoko—————-Wijnaldum———Townsend–

We’re going to sign this player. We’re going to sign that player. We’re not going to sign this player. We’re not going to sign that player. This rumour’s shit and that rumour’s shite. Great if we sign this player even if I don’t know who he is. We should play 442. We should play 4231. Bla bla bla.

I believe your argument was something like, “as long as he’s not a geriatric..”
Do you think one evening Mr Charnley will say good night to a vibrant Mr Carr and then come in the next day and say “O dear. Mr Carr’s a geriatric this morning. Sorry Graham, you’re time’s up. Come on. Shuffle out that door please.”?

Comment #114If peace doesn’t sell he’s a fool and I hope wba go down because of his stubbornness. Bera is a cancer in the team at the moment, how can he let that continue? Is worsening morale worth being so stubborn?
21m is a lot with which they could considerably strengthen.
I’d also like a pop at pulis . stop going on about bera as if he’s part of your team and he just has to get his head right etc. You are a poor manager who falls out with your best player. Yes there is too much player power these days, but no one talks about managers who act above their station. No manager is bigger than their club.

Comment #120Really looking forward to seeing Doumbia play if he does arrive. Hope he’s as fast as perceived. He was the Fifa beast, so let’s hope he is.
It was noticeable with his first two runs that Cabella was nowhere near as quick as Hatem, or as skilful, even though some on here said otherwise.
Unsure about Berahino. Hope he does well if he arrives as well. At least we’re seeing incomings!
