Report – Newcastle Have Completed Doumbia Loan Deal

8:08 pm, Sunday, January 31st, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 274 Comments

Agent Oscar is a football agent said to have reliable contacts in Europe and he is saying the deal to get Roma striker Seydou Doumbia to Newcastle on loan is done – his tweet was posted about 25 minutes ago.

We hope he’s right because we need at least one success today as we have missed out on both left back targets Valencia’s 26-year-old defender Lucas Orban and Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira.

If it’s true we may get something from Newcastle tonight.

Based on Bera’s premier league career he’s a 1 in 4 striker. Currently he’s not fit. We have 15 games left so we could expect him to maybe get 3-4 goals if he plays every game. Personally I’d back Mitro to at least equal that. If Doumbia signs on then I’m happy enough to miss out on the overpriced Bera

  • 2 Thump // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:11 PM

    A solid source.

  • 3 SUTTY1978 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:12 PM

Well if Agent Oscar says it’s done, who am I to argue!?

  • 4 croftus5678 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:12 PM

    bloody hope so !

if he finds his feet in the prem we could have a great signing here with a view to a perm move.

  • 5 Bambams // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:12 PM

There is a bloke on twitter stating he was doing a stadium tour and couldn’t go to pitch side because Doumbia was having photos taken…
Time will tell if he is honest

  • 6 Slank // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:12 PM

It’s just normal wheeling and dealing brinkmanship.

WBA know we are desperate for a striker and will hang out for a higher bid knowing that we have the money.

  • 7 StevoNorthShields // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:13 PM

This new lad looks canny, move on if the kid from wba is a non starter… Don’t waste time on ghost signings and finish off what could be an awesome window

  • 8 corkypants // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:16 PM

Is this a loan with a view to a permanent move does anyone know?

  • 9 firebug666 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:17 PM

We will have to wait for an official announcement mate, he has to get clearance to play in the Premier league first.

Good. Don’t need Saido, it’d be at least a couple weeks before he could even be up to match fitness so I don’t see how much help that would be for 25 mil

  • 12 corkypants // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:19 PM

Firebug i hope it is he is a fantastic player, seen him on the box a fair few time at cska he was amazing

  • 13 Slater // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:19 PM

If Doumbia has been at St. James’ then fair enough. If not though the lad must know he’d get an onslaught. Same as the lad who set up a fake Lee Ryder account. Crackers man.

  • 14 jazzyp // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:20 PM

6 month loan deal with an option to a permanent deal.

Best option for both parties I would say

  • 15 Slater // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:22 PM

Im sure I’ve read that Satka has gone to York on loan. Hopefully the lad will get a bit of experience. I’ve seen him play for the young’ns, looked a solid player.

  • 16 croftus5678 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:22 PM

    @7 stevo

    tbh bud shelvey/saivet/doumbia/townsend in
a fair few loaned out for progress
and some dross shifted onto new clubs.

think its been a brill window allready.

  • 17 firebug666 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:22 PM

He will certainly give us the pace and goals that we have been lacking. I said earlier that his style reminds me of Aspilla, with quick feet and the way he muscles defenders out of his way.

  • 18 matt11_25 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:23 PM

Good news. Still want Berahino too and Doumbia will provide bera the time to get fit. Quality young englishman who we won’t be able to get in the summer IMO..

  • 19 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:24 PM

Cracking player if he’s the same player I watched a couple seasons ago in the champions league.

Regardless of how well he does he has the attributes and top level experience we have been shouting for. Should go well with the others signed as well.

Very pleased with this window, hopefully we keep going every transfer window and it’s not another false dawn.

  • 20 Bambams // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:24 PM

    Right £21 million for a decent cf…
If we get Doumbia with Mitro and Perez…..suggests goals IF we have the assists from our new midfield !
£21 million would get a cracking CB and LB .
Why did we not buy in the summer, Smc said he would rather spend the lot in one window.
    Bloody hell I don’t know what’s best, 3 × windows or what.
    Nowt easy supporting Newcastle.
Falcons played well today, thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • 21 angelswithdirtyfaces // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:24 PM

Yay ! Good news at last (assuming it’s not just a twitter storm)
Doumbia is a cracking signing IMO.

Sutty – reckon Mitro will get a lot better service from Townsend and JJ – and could reach double figures for this season

  • 22 corkypants // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:25 PM

Firebug couldnt agree more defo has the asprilla about him im happy with that id what jazzy said is right about 6months with a view to a permanant move in the summer

  • 23 Harley // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:25 PM

I’d love to get Berahino in but if we don’t I won’t lose any sleep (as long as we have Doumbia). With him, Townsend and Shelvey in the team now I’m confident that will see is ok.
Then we can get a big name striker in the summer to replace Cisse.

  • 24 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:27 PM

I think Mitro will score a lot more with the new additions to help him out.

I also think Berahino would be a cracking player, he had a good record last season and was improving until Pulis spat his dummy out and wouldn’t give the lad a proper chance after the summer.

Berahino didn’t help himself but the club should have sold him or played him, wasting everyone’s time currently.

  • 25 Take a Chancel on me // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:27 PM

This is beginning to be a soap opera with Berahino

  • 26 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:28 PM

My god. This blog has spent many months wasting words on Charlie Austin. Time in your lives you’ll never get back. Do we really need to eat, sleep and breathe every second of the Berahino saga?

  • 27 firebug666 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:30 PM

Well you don’t have to stay if you don’t want to.

  • 28 TroubledToon // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:32 PM

Fingers crossed. Hopefully the signing is announced shortly. He’ll definitely add pace upfront. Would take the pressure off Mitro too. Would love to see them play in a 442.

  • 29 croftus5678 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:32 PM

    @26 blackley

i agree blackley lets offer 25mil for austin 😉

  • 30 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:33 PM

Little else to discuss at the minute, no game this weekend.

Hopefully this doesn’t rumble on until the summer like the Austin saga did for 6 months.

  • 31 AncientC // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:33 PM

Apparently the bid for Berahino is £24 million up front, with £25 million predicted to seal the deal tomorrow.

  • 32 toon kk // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:34 PM

Look on the bright side, at least we’ve strengthened, if no one else comes apart from Doumbia we’ve still had good window, any other signings are a bonus.

  • 33 Pitmatic // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:36 PM

Ashley is a highly competitive egomaniac who hates losing. Hard to say what that will mean for this Berahino deal tomorrow. I must admit, having been reasonably sceptical even at £18m, seeing us pile all-in on a transfer for the first time in a generation is pretty exciting stuff, and on balance I’d welcome the adrenaline shot that it’d provide.

He can’t possibly be worse or as ineffective as Sissoko, so if we can bring in a big fee for him in the summer, then it’s effectively risk-free. Contrary to a couple of earlier posters, I really do think this guy’s the cancer in this team. We can start to compete again when he’s gone.

  • 34 croftus5678 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:36 PM

  • 37 Take a Chancel on me // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:39 PM

If WBA won’t sell to us then we need to move on to other targets.

There may come a time when we could repay them the courtesy of not selling them one of our players.

Or we could be really nasty and give them Obertan and Gouffran for free.

Is Berinho any better than Perez, he’s a 1 in 4 striker, orange Phil reckons for 21M you should be getting a 1 in 2

  • 50 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:52 PM

If we sign Berahino and Doumbia, I think we’ll just need a left back to sign tomorrow. I would go for Raphael Guerriero. Second choice would be Willems, third choice would be Santon and fourth choice would be Enrique.

I we signed those three players, I think we’ll have the 3rd best squad in the league.

  • 51 Moonraker15 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:53 PM

Doumbia reminds me of Oba Martins in his style but obviously more lethal in front of goal! Optimistic and encouraged! A new era beginning for the Toon! Big test for SMc and the coaches now though !

  • 52 Jib // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:53 PM

    Stoke for Berahino sounds perfect
    40 miles up the M6
Saido is a bit of a mummy’s boy and a Christian church goer and he could stay living in West Bromwich.

  • 53 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:54 PM

Loic Remy on loan could still be an option. If not, then Michy Batushayami or Lacazette would be a good coup.

  • 54 geordieboy83 // Jan 31, 2016 at 8:55 PM

So a midfield 3 of sissoko, Shelvey, wijnaldum
A front 3 of doumbia, mitrovic, berahino. With Townsend, saivet, Perez, de Jong to rotate. I beggar anybody to not get excited at the prospect of that. Couldn’t care less how many we concede haha we should score more with that line up. Football manager tactics maybe, but boll0x to it this is exciting.

Until I wake up and doumbia has gone to arsenal, berHino gone to stoke and we sign marvin sordell and aiden mcgeedy

  • 55 Moonraker15 // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:01 PM

Those 1 in 4 stats are a load of rubbish as he hasn’t had a run of games nor started many games so they don’t reflect a true picture. Also West Brom don’t create a lot do they which is probably why he wants to leave. I think Ashley will dig in on this and make sure he gets his man having paid Spurs 12 mil he won’t want his money used to help buy Berahino! And let’s face it, we can afford him!

  • 56 optimistic prime // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:01 PM

If Pearce is saying he won’t sell to us as he sees us as relegation rivals is he also saying he doesn’t have that much faith in his manager and squad?

Seems a funny thing to say considering he doesn’t play.

IMO this is all a game, NUFC waited until now to avoid a bidding war as it was their best chance of getting him. Pearce is holding on for more, I think we’ll sign him late afternoon tomorrow.

  • 57 Thump // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:01 PM

@geordieboy: You think we can attract players of Sordell and McGeedy’s ability? That’s hopeful 😉

  • 58 check the toastie // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:02 PM

  • 59 Jail for Ashley // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:06 PM

  • 61 Moonraker15 // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:06 PM

Pulls has a habit of falling out with the owner around transfer deadline day as he did at Palace. Peace is gonna sell him and leave Pulis without cover. Peace trying to sell West Brom can’t afford to not sell Bera!

  • 62 toon22 // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:10 PM

    Agree i would bench Sissoko

The usual back line with a new left back
    Wini Tiote Shelvey Townsend
    Mitrov Berahino

  • 63 Moonraker15 // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:10 PM

Some of the chances we’ve been creating my grandson could’ve converted! Bera is lethal in front of goal he just doesn’t get many chances playing for West Brom under Pulis.

  • 64 SUTTY1978 // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:12 PM

Moonraker, he’s only played at WBA and you’re saying he’s never really done much there because they haven’t played him that much or he’s just been used off the bench, so tell me why he is worth £20+m then?

  • 65 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:12 PM

I can’t see how West Brom can turn down a deal anywhere near that, especially as the lad is out of favour.

  • 66 elpaso_geordie // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:13 PM

Anyone else concerned that Doumbia and Berahino will spend the end for Perez..!!!!!

I think that’s why Spurs have pulled out of the transfer from Dembele from FULHAM and what clinched the signing of Townsend but they have to wait until we sign replacements.

Personally I would be gutted and would rather save the 20+ million and keep Perez cos he gonna be a star

  • 67 SUTTY1978 // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:14 PM

Sissoko is the 12th best player in the league at creating chances, he would have a whole host of assists if the rest of the players could put their chances away. He will get at least twice as many assists as Townsend between now and the end of the season.

    More on Berahino story tomorrow

  • 69 lochinvar // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:15 PM

There’s some good thinking going on here and it may be coming from McLaren . Doumbia feeding off Mitro and through balls from Gini and Townsend has an exciting and productive feel to it . Given firmer and drier pitches we’re looking at a flair team going forward and the goals should follow.

  • 70 SUTTY1978 // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:15 PM

Perez is a bit wasted in our team, would do better at Arsenal or similar.

Our Newcastle sources say they’ve had NO response/knock-back from WBA for their £21m Saido Berahino bid.

so they actually havent turned down our bid yet, this saga is going to drag on until 11 pm tomorrow, but a chance still it seems

  • 74 will die for the toon army // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:20 PM

I am not really worried about Perez coz he has no competition in his position of WF.

  • 75 CookyToon // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:20 PM

Sissoko is your typical chancer, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Luckily for him he’s well liked so people tend to overlook it when misplaces the 5 yard passes but rejoice when it works for him.

Would snap any teams hand off for double figures for him.

Berahino/Townsend either flank and Doumbia CF? 😉

  • 79 Moonraker15 // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:24 PM

What the stats don’t tell you is how many chances he puts away and my cousin who has watched him a lot reckons he’s lethal when he gets a chance. There’s no smoke without fire and we’ve missed too many of these young prospects from Dele Alli to Modric and there are loads more. We need to get this one in. Incidentally if you go solely by stats we already have one of the best – Cisse’s stats are good but his value to the team is limited apart from always injured. Even if fit we don’t play him now!

  • 80 elpaso_geordie // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:26 PM

Where does Perez play though if we get these strikers on board . He is probably on the bench , he needs to play to develop into the player he can obviously become.

  • 81 cyprus // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:28 PM

Sissoko is among our very best. Powerful, an athlete, skillful. Central to the future superteam. No one is benching him.

  • 82 SUTTY1978 // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:30 PM

Anyone thinking that Townsend offers more than Sissoko wants their heads checking out. The description of a chancer is Townsend.

  • 83 optimistic prime // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:32 PM

Why all the panic about where someone will play, first time under Ashley I can remeber us having options and cover.

There’s bound to be injuries and suspensions but even if by some miracle our medical staff start to perform and our players stay fit, completion can only be good for everyone.

That’s if we don’t have a clear out tomorrow.

  • 84 cyprus // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:32 PM

Townsend and Sissoko are different players. Both have significant roles

  • 85 toon kk // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:33 PM

Iv never seen Sissoko beat a man with anything other than just his pace. Athlete no doubt but it’s what he does after that lets him down, little end product for me, can be a very frustrating player.

Reminds of a David Luiz type of player, there’s not a position on the park for him. Capable of bits of brilliance but your not sure if he’s a CM, LW, RW, No.10

Newcastle United are apparently uninterested in Davide Santon, even after failing to land Guilherme Siqueira.

  • 103 optimistic prime // Jan 31, 2016 at 9:58 PM

Everyone has their own opinion on players. I think Sissoko is lazy, won’t go in for tackles and only performs once every 3 or 4 games.

I’ll admit some of his best performances for NUFC have been this season, he needs to be more concistent and get his head up. He also really needs to add goals to his game and work on his crossing and passing the odd tackle wouldn’t go a miss either.

I always get behind the players and team but that doesn’t mean I can’t have constructive critisim regarding their play.

Your lucky I don’t tell you what I thought of him last year.

  • 104 bettyswallocks // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:00 PM

  • 105 SUTTY1978 // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:00 PM

Perez 34 shots, 5 goals, so about 1 in 7 chance conversion

  • 106 sparky55 // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:01 PM

I’m kinda hoping the Berahino thing is all bollox now we have Doumbia and the money’s all going somewhere else ideal on at least two defenders.

IMO we have enough firepower in the team to keep us up so long as we buy a couple of good defenders to shore up the defence.

We currently let in two a game…if we can reduce that to just one a game we’ll stay up with the signings we have IMO

  • 107 SUTTY1978 // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:03 PM

Stuart, the stats for Bera were for his entire career playing under a few different managers. Anyway West Brom are better than us this season

  • 108 SUTTY1978 // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:04 PM

Sparky, tend to agree with your points there

  • 109 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:08 PM

Remember those stats are over 3/4 years…..he broke into the side at 18/19 and did ok. Really kicked on last season, scored 14 prem league goals in a very average team.

He’s spent most of this year on the bench or not in the squad, getting the odd 5/10 minutes. When he has started though he has scored.

He is a very good finisher for me who’s record will get better, just my opinion of course but watching him he is a class above what we have.

I get the argument spending that money on a defender but if we get Berahino now then that could be a striker tied up for the next 10 years.

  • 110 Jail for Ashley // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:10 PM

I’m with sparky on this one, I don’t think there will be 50M each window as we haven’t got a bottomless pit and I don’t think he’s worth thst much, funny how it’s Pulis’s old club that are driving the price up. I’d rather bring Doumbia in and get some quality defenders in. However if we have got 50M each window, bring it on.

  • 111 Blackley and Brownlie // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:11 PM

I don’t get all the excitement. Just because he could be a record signing doesn’t mean he’s worth it. Looks like another panic buy of a dubious talent, where we’re being bent over a barrel. It’s all hopeless mismanagement of the massive sums available. Have you ever spent £150 on groceries at Waitrose and then struggled to find something to make for your tea?

  • 112 stuart no9 // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:11 PM

  • 116 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:17 PM

For buying young players with potential you pay a premium these days, no two ways around it anymore. Look how many crazy deals are done every window.

It’s madness to you or I but as the TV money increases, ticket prices go up, sponsorship goes up….that money eventually filters down to the people who make it all possible, the players. Without them none of the rest would exist…so ultimately clubs, agents and players push up prices.

We did the same with Carroll when we sold him, we play these games so have to expect them the other way too.

  • 117 toonbrother // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:19 PM

  • 122 optimistic prime // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:29 PM

No player is worth his fee, except the great Rob Lee, worth every penny.

Who cares how much he costs, we’ve blown enough on dodgy imports this lad is English if he improves his price sky rockets. At the end of the day if we didn’t have it we wouldn’t be spending it, we all know how tight Ashley is.

It may be that Steeve does get his 3 windows with £50m in each, I’ll not complain if it’s invested right.

I can’t bring myself to complain about the window (except Gomiss) I may not agree with the prices or players but we’re active and unless it’s selling that ain’t the norm for NUFC.

Steeves excuses will have to stop rather quickly mind.

  • 123 Mister Tuff // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:29 PM

  • 125 sparky55 // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:34 PM

This Bera “will he won’t he” bollox is getting on me nerves now TBH…I personally don’t think he’ll come anywhere near us with the options he has available and I think he’d have an unsettling influence if he came here anyway.

We have Perez, Mitro, Cisse, Colback, Doumbia Winji, Sissoko, Shelvey, and Townsend all fighting over 6 places so why we allegedly chasing this so hard when the final piece of the jigsaw surely has to be a defender

  • 126 optimistic prime // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:34 PM

  • 132 Mister Tuff // Jan 31, 2016 at 10:43 PM

OP – something adrift with all the speculation -the norm is to hear nothing about what the club are up to.
All this £21 and £24 million stuff -throwing Stoke in the mix – is for the most part not the way the club do business.
Berahino has potential – folk are going to have to be pretty sure at the rumoured fees.
We’ll probably ended up with Gomis.

Neither is he soft as he is a big bastard and has had to be hard in his past professional life.

Neither is he a bully. He is well educated and knows enough to be an authority on many topics.

However, despite all these attributes, I can confirm that he is a mackem, a SOS season ticket holder and a lifetime resident of Hylton Castle. He used to go to ST. Aidans grammar school in Sunderland and was once rejected for Sunderland boys. He was heartbroken.

He was working with a one on one striking coach off his own back, the trainer was being sort of showcased on soccer am and Berihinio was his student.

Think it was at St George’s park, it was interesting as they don’t do one on one striking coaching at clubs. He said he started going as he wanted to improve his all round game. He looked really good in the drills, when he scored yesterday they were both things he’d been practising.

Not sure when it was filmed but only weeks back I’d guess.

Expat, I know but I can’t help it, he’s such a pompous ass he’s got to respond, it’s better that he does because it should accelerate his next eviction. Anyone else noticed that when you clear away the fog of his arguments, like the age one yesterday ( and the day before) you realise he has back pedalled from the original idea he was posting. Ie backing up his claim that carr makes bad decisions because his brain is deteriorating.

If he said it as a joke, it would have passed unnoticed. But as is his nature, he had to try and defend it seriously leading to the debacle we witnessed the last two days. Pious and superior. Endearing qualities indeed.

Your coping strategy of bashing poor Blackley with nothing but insults at every other post is working well. It used to be every post. Six or seven times a day. Give it a few more months and your rehabilitation will be almost complete.

Now I’m taking an early night because I’ve got work in the morning. See if you can get a few more Blackley character assassinations in tonight. It will prove extremely cathartic and restorative, I’ve no doubt. Take care old fella. I trust if there’s ever an inquest, the coroner will take heed of these kind words from old Blackas.

No. I dont think so. Doumbia will be our last signing.

If Berahino goes, I think it will be to Spurs. I dont actually blame WBA in not selling him to us. After all, we have refused to sell Perez to Spurs and I can see WBA being pulled into the relegation battle.

I also think we have been very foolish in not addressing our defensive shortcomings too.

We have allowed 2 potential centre halves to leave the club whilst we have no available left backs and no cover for our one and only right back.

In my opinion, thus is why we will be relegated this year. It us not the number of goals we have failed to score but the number of goals we have successfully conceded.

Does nobody else think that we runt Aaron’s should be sent out on loan?

Skinny we runt hasn’t proved anything yet and thinks he is a world beater. Coming out and saying he would love to play for Man U like just everything about him reminds me of Sterling. He should shut his mouth and start his career. He could learn something from wor Armstrong. Stick the head down and play and the rewards will come.

  • 239 asl123 // Feb 1, 2016 at 4:33 AM

Pls don waste money on overrated overpriced Berahino. I would prefer to use that money for LB and a creative playmaker (Do we have any now? None!). Shelvey is ok but need discipline since he always tend to be out of position and leave the back out open. He’s best at DM with Coldback. The problem with striker right now is, no service from midfield. So, I put my trust on Mitro, Perez, Reviere, Cisse or even Armstrong to lead the attack.

  • 240 will die for the toon army // Feb 1, 2016 at 4:36 AM

    Best team if Berahino arrives:

Darlow, Lasceles, Colback, Aarons, Perez, Saviet, Doumbia

  • 241 will die for the toon army // Feb 1, 2016 at 4:41 AM

  • 242 Reyantoon // Feb 1, 2016 at 5:00 AM

While I’ll be happy whoever comes in from now on,I don’t get the logic behind paying 20+m for Berahino.Who still is untested and still is equally a gamble like other targeted strikers. With that kind of investment, we can get one top striker like Lacazatte or two other very good strikers in the summer.I don’t know about the rest of you but Gomis will do for me for the time being.Along with Doumbia as back up.

  • 243 Reyantoon // Feb 1, 2016 at 5:07 AM

The rest of the amendments can be done in the summer as we still have an ample squad to cop with the remaining 15 games of the season.

  • 244 expatmag // Feb 1, 2016 at 5:34 AM

Hopefully many of you will be surprised by Doumbia. He has pace and power and I think will light up the PL.

There would be no need for Berahino.

What we need to do is achieve ssfety first.
    Make Doumbia permanent
Sign a quality experienced central defender who can also lead…….a Gary Cahill would be perfect
Sign a decent young left back
Convince Lacazette to sign for us.
If Norwich go down, sign Redmond
    Sell Sissoko and left overs
    Integrate Armstrong into the squad

  • 245 SUTTY1978 // Feb 1, 2016 at 5:40 AM

Would have thought Doumbia would have been announced by now, seems a bit strange. I know will need a work permit but Mbemba was announced prior to his work permit being announced. Would be more gutted to miss out on Doumbia than Bera, although I think both.would/could be good signings, they are very similar though.

  • 246 SUTTY1978 // Feb 1, 2016 at 5:45 AM

Reyan, you’re seriously underestimating Doumbia if you think he would be back up to Gomis, he’s much better than that. His only real downside is Cisse-esq control. Ball can sometimes go right past him or bounce of him when it looks simple enough to get it under control. However the two words that people often bring up that they want in a striker are pace and power, he has those and is a lethal finisher.

    big day boys.

dont get us signing Gomes like, unless cisse is away and he’s a back up player, suppose he’s better backup than riviere, whos on his way.

    Doumbia > Cisse
    Gomis > Riviera
Berahinho is worth 26million in todays market for sure.

    Di Maria 60 million
    Mata 39 million
    Martial 36 million
    Depay 30million
    Herrera 28 million
    Schneiderlin 25 million
    Fellaini 27 million

And some on here think old man Carr has lost the plot.

Berahinho a snip at 25 compared to that shite signed.

    Morning Reyan,

    You posted an odd comment directed at me the other day, I responded yesterday morning, but you mustn’t have been around. Here it is again;

    Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 31, 2016 at 7:43 AM

Not sure what you are talking about mate. I didn’t praise McClaren after the Watford game at all…. I was fairly critical of his selection. I also haven’t mentioned anything about him influencing the board to spend money, when I have spoken on that topic I’ve generally argued that McClaren has had less influence on the signings then many say.

I doubt I will have said he was the best coach in the UK, but he is a probably one of the best English training ground coaches. Doesn’t make him a good manager though. It doesn’t make him tactically astute or aware, and it doesn’t make him impervious to pressure. I was never overly convinced by his appointment to start with, and said that, but I was happy to give him the chance but stated that I had concerns with certain aspects about him. I saw both positives and negatives in it. I think both have been witnessed so far this season.

I think you have got me mixed up with someone else on this one as you have pretty much got nothing I have said right.

  • 250 Reyantoon // Feb 1, 2016 at 6:12 AM

Sutty – I have watched Gomis more than Doumbia.I don’t know much about Doumbia but when I saw him once in Afcon last year with Ivory Coast,he failed to make an impact and was usually a sub for his country. He went to Roma and failed to impress as well.I’m not underestimated him but based on his record at big stages,he tends to hide or lost.Just because you impressed by YouTube videos, doesn’t mean he will set the PL elite suddenly.Based EPL experience for the moment, he’s behind Gomis.

  • 251 will die for the toon army // Feb 1, 2016 at 6:13 AM

Berahino is worth every penny. Mcca is a good coach but not a manager.

I see he changes his systems alot but still not convinced.

  • 254 expatmag // Feb 1, 2016 at 6:22 AM

  • 256 will die for the toon army // Feb 1, 2016 at 6:35 AM

Mcca is in a dream job.

    1. Having a billionare owner
    2. Being on the board
    3. Loyal fans
    4. Sleeping giant
    5. Financial stable club
    6. His own staff

I wish i was Mcca, he would b stupid if he fails.

  • 257 Lilongwe Geordie // Feb 1, 2016 at 6:40 AM

If we have Doumbia done and dusted, I’d not be too upset at Berahino going elsewhere. Doumbia gives us greater pace up front, and that would be the key reason for getting Berahino in. Options and opportunities to change style/tactics.

I think we have a good range of options now, Mitro, Doumbia, Perez, Cisse, Townsend, Sissoko, Gini, Aarons plus Toney potentially and Rivi if he isn’t shifted out. We are probably looking at 4 or 5 spots for those attacking players.

It will be interesting to see if we switch to 2 up front, and where that leaves Wijnaldum and Shelvey. Switching to a more orthodox 442 would probably mean Shelvey has to play more of a DM role and Gini will also be much deeper. Neither are best suited to those roles, Shelvey would be best served alongside Tiote and Gini higher up just off the striker/s.

Will he switch (keep after Watford) the 352? Townsend left wing back? If he did, then Sissoko would miss out for me, or you lose Shelvey’s effectiveness as you ask him to hold behind Sissoko and Gini. Again, Shelvey will be best served having a player willing to do the dirty work and free Shelvey to play a deeper passing role.

It is good to have options, but It took Mac half a season to get Gini off the left wing. How quickly can he work to build a system and team where it is likely that a few of our bigger name players don’t play, rather than trying to shoehorn al our big names into the same see, foreign how well the system works with them in.

  • 258 SUTTY1978 // Feb 1, 2016 at 6:41 AM

Reyan, I’ve seen a fair amount of him in the Champions League, which is about as big a stage as you can get. Gomis has scored one premier league goal since the end of August. Doumbia has had a very good scoring record for his whole career.
Everyone has their preferences, personally I would stay well clear of Gomis, but if you like him then fair enough.

  • 259 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Feb 1, 2016 at 6:46 AM

Doumbia haven’t impressed for more than a year. Maybe as much as two seasons. We are buying a player at the night of his career – I fear some will be disappointed. Lets hope he finds the goal quickly.

As for this alleged bid for Berahino. I don’t know if we have bid for him or a going to, but WBrom are finding then in a tough spot because they won’t have to replace him should they accept an offer.

And they are running the chance that Berahino won’t perform for them anyway. So what do you do?

Lil, I made similar points earlier, just don’t see where all the players will fit! Almost have to go 343 with no width to fit them in.
The other thing is that its not like McClaren uses subs well, tends to be 3 mins at the end rather than game changers.

Doumbia is fast powerful and knows where the goal is mate, he didn’t do well in Italy because the style of play didn’t suit him, but for Moscow he was lethal.

He is 28 years old, but we need a goal scorer, and I think he will fit into our team, He suits a fast attacking side and I think we can offer that.

For me he is an exciting player who (if he settles quickly) will replace all those should have been goals with actual goals.

  • 270 Lilongwe Geordie // Feb 1, 2016 at 7:02 AM

I’m over the moon to have options for once, but is Macca the man to work out how best to use them?

On the other hand, if we did get Bera it would give us an opportunity to loan out Aarons and Toney again, and still have sufficient offensive cover in the squad.

I think that is probably why it is a loan deal. I’ll be honest, he isn’t someone I’ve ever paid much attention to, but his record looks good in poorer leagues. The only time he went to a strong league he struggled.

I think he will do okay for us though, but I do thick he will need a strike partner alongside him to work, someone to feed off. That is fine, Mitro is more than capable of that role.

I doubt he will be available for Wednesday, so I think it will be West Brom when we get a true idea of how Macca envisages the side for the remainder of the season.

  • 271 NezzaNUFC // Feb 1, 2016 at 7:05 AM

Sod Berahino we have Doumbia with Mitrovic and Perez and Cisse once back.

We need a LB like Jetro to complete the squad then next season get the CB’S in.

  • 272 Lilongwe Geordie // Feb 1, 2016 at 7:06 AM

    Will Die,
Bera hasn’t been starting but has played in 18 of their 23 Premier league matches this season. He is far more involved at West Brom than Townsend was at Spurs.

  • 273 expatmag // Feb 1, 2016 at 7:07 AM

We seem to be building a decent squad but we gave a lot of scrap to get rid of yet too.

Unlike another, I am a fan of Doumbia as he has the potential to be a 15 to 20 goals a season player. I am not sure Berahino is that nor experienced enough considering our current predicament.

whilst the midfield and forwards has/is being addressed, the defence us still mightily suspect.

i am hoping that Doumbias goals will stave off relegation and we buy him outright.

i am skso hoping the third 50 million pound instalment in the summer will largely address a commanding centre half, a quality international left back and a back up right back.

  • 274 Ian Toon // Feb 1, 2016 at 7:31 AM

Berahino has a focus and compose in front of goal which suggests he’s a natural goalscorer. He’s clearly not at his best weight through inactivity but as well as Doumbia he would provide the goals we desperately need. The football board are finally with Macca’s thinking and the nucleus of the sides need to shift towards being English. I see Thauvin has only gone on loan with no plan for the deal to become permanent but I can’t see him coming back. Though Saivet just needs to play games to get used to the PL he looks a good buy.
However I see our situation as providing the opportunity for Macca to seize a controlling influence over the football board. This he’s clearly done and it’s is the end of Carr’s French project.
Being greedy as well as Berahino I would like a left back as well.
