West Brom know they are not out of the relegation fight for this season and they are still in danger of being relegated – and that’s exactly why they could decide not to sell their top striker Saido Berahino to Newcastle in this January transfer window.
But they may accept a £21M bid from Stoke and then let Stoke talk to the player about wages and it’s conceivable a deal could be struck for Saido.
🙁
Saido Berahino – Stoke in with bid
And since Swansea sold us one of their best players – Jonjo Shelvey – earlier this month and took some heavy criticism for selling him to one of their relegation candidates.
Since then it seems they have seen the light of day with news they are not willing to sell Bafe Gomis to us in this window for massive £7M for the 30 year-old.
If we don’t get Bafe Gomis in and we cannot persuade West Brom to accept a bid for Saido Berahino, then hopefully Newcastle can still bring in another striker before 11:00 pm tomorrow night.
And that’s assuming Seydou Doumbia passes his medical and signs a loan deal for us through the rest of the season.
Nothing much has been heard on that today – other than Sky News reporting he was in Newcastle taking his medical.
But it wouldn’t surprise us one little but if Newcastle put in an improved bid for Berahino and as we said earlier today we weren’t too surprised the initial bid was rejected.
If Jeremy Peace wants £30M for his striker as has been reported and he has turned down £21M we cannot be too far away and a bid close to beat £25M could be accepted.
Is it too much for him – yes – but we need him in to help save us from relegation and all the money we will lose from the Premier League – not to mention the loss of prestige Newcastle United will suffer if we are relegated.
And don’t forget we are supposed to have bid that amount for French striker for Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon who is unproven in the Premier League, but one of Graham Carr’s favorites.
So things are still hanging in the balance at the moment with news from Valencia that they have signed Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira and allowed their 26-year-old defender Lucas Orban to join Levante UD until June 30th.
So we have officially missed out on both left back targets.
Comments welcome.

Comment #6Watching the transfer window on sky sports, Jim White talking about stats regarding doumbia, and I’ve got to say as long as we sign him and a defender then i don’t care if we don’t get west brom player, we won’t get him with three clubs involved and i don’t think we will go in to a bidding war, don’t think we have ever been in one.
Doumbia and a defender that will do me.

Comment #7Bloody sky are they drunk or something. £21m how can WBA refuse that. And left back targets both missed come on Mike go and get either Gibbs or Willems and we’ll be set.
Berahino and Doumbia would be insane, so much pace give us an outlet.

Told relations between #wba and #nufc have become very strained. Somebody is playing a media game over Berahino, which hasn’t gone down well

Its the same every transfer window, This one they have a big story to latch on to with the Berahino merry go round.
SSN just ramping up the tension and hope of the fans when there may not be a story at all regarding Stoke…Well at least I hope not bud !

Comment #14I used to be a huge sissoko detractor because he’s a 1 in 3 player. This season I realized it’s better to have a player like him versus a 1 good game in 6 a la colo/dummet/Colback, etc.
Sissoko, when he’s up for it, provides an outlet few others can. He plays well when the team does and vice Versa. I’d take 25m for him, but it’s never gonna happen

Comment #18I can’t understand this bidding. Hope this does not come across as a negative but how the hell can they turn down ( if true) £21 million for a player who obviously wants away AND they are not playing him – makes you wonder if we are bidding but KNOW it won’t be accepted!
SSN are stating he won’t be sold !
Very odd the whole situation.
£21 million ……

Comment #19@matty: Agreed completely. On his day he can be a bulldozer of a player, just charging through midfield. No tricks, just pure strength and ability. With Shelvey’s off the ball movement, it’s going to be interesting seeing how those two play together… if he’s here long enough for it, that is.

It’s possible that Mikes putting on a show for the fans, But if there was no bid WBA would have said so, so I assume we a placing bids knowing they won’t be accepted.
If this is the case I would p1ss myself laughing if WBA said OK then we accept.
But it’s seems that somebody somewhere (Ashley) is being a little guarded with the truth.

Comment #21Based on Bera’s premier league career he’s a 1 in 4 striker. Currently he’s not fit. We have 15 games left so we could expect him to maybe get 3-4 goals if he plays every game. Personally I’d back Mitro to at least equal that. If Doumbia signs on then I’m happy enough to miss out on the overpriced Bera

It’s just normal wheeling and dealing brinkmanship.
WBA know we are desperate for a striker and will hang out for a higher bid knowing that we have the money.

Comment #24sutty—–looking at west brom this season they havnt been great, – so in effect Beri playing in a much better side with macca giving him the confidence like he supposenly has with townsend, then thats maybe just what he needs , playing for a side you dont want to is bad enough , but if hes not getting kisses and cuddles from pulis on his performances , then its abit like a kick in the ballcocks , so maybe , he could lead the charge in our survival specially if jonjo can pull the strings ???

Comment #25If you guys think Ashley is doing all this for pr reasons you must think he gives a shit what the fans think. I thought you knew him better than that. This is business and he’s doing the right thing at last. WBA will sell at the highest price bid in THIS window otherwise Pulis wouldn’t have even mentioned the chairman will decide!
