Sky Sports is reporting that Saido Berahino is not expected to leave West Brom today and if he did leave senior sources at West Brom are telling Sky Sports he certainly wouldn’t be sold to a club fighting relegation along with West Brom – such as Newcastle United.
Saido Berahino – going nowhere today
Sky Sports News reporter Anton Toloui was reporting from the West Brom training ground today and he had this to say:
“Senior sources have been saying Berahino will not be leaving the club today.
“Some may be surprised by that as the striker has only started eight Premier League games this season and hasn’t scored a league goal since mid-October.”
“The club remain just seven points above the relegation zone and don’t want to take any risks by selling a player who scored 14 Premier League goals last season and especially to a relegation rival such as Newcastle United.”
“There is also a commercial reason in that they believe they can get just as much money for him in the summer, even though he only has 12 months left on his current deal.”
“And being deadline Day, they may struggle to get a replacement. West Brom insist he is going nowhere.”
Both Newcastle and Stoke were reported yesterday to have made £21M bids for Berahino, with Newcastle paying cool cash up front – but West Brom Chaiman Jeremy Peace turned the offers down.
But as we reported earlier today West Brom would be daft to let Berahino join Newcastle with both clubs being in the relegation fray – and we play the Baggies this Saturday at home.
If we beat them we are probably just 4 points behind them.
What is very clear these days with Premier League clubs is their number one priority is to stay in the Premier League this season with that new three year £5.1B TV rights deal starting in June.
£21M isn’t much good to West Brom if they end up getting relegated in May and miss out on all that much bigger money from the Premier League TV rights.
We will not get Berahino today.

Comment #2Peace is an absolute idiot. I agree with his sentiments about letting a player go so late in the window. But this is undermined by the fact he has not been playing him anyway. But he will not get anywhere near that amount of money for him after this window.

How many times have fans heard he’s not for sale, that’s like a green light in some cases.

Comment #8Just wondering why we want Berahino if we’ve signed Doumbia? Berahino isn’t Prem Lg fit, looks overweight and will take at least 3-4 weeks to get anywhere near where he should be. Same with Remy, and Gomis, please god no.
Can’t we just have Gibbs and Cahill please, Football God?

Comment #10More brinkmanship. I say steer clear. Sogn doumbia, have another pop at remy on loan, and spend the bera money on a LB.

2 good finishes, he took 2nd really well.
I wouldn’t be dissapointed if we didn’t get him as I think we’ve done decent buisness, however I’d love to get him.
Think he’s a cracking player who’ll get better and better, if we’ve got a chance we should do all we can to get him.
Spoof

Money does talk.
But I think we’ll offer Swansea 15 mil and end up getting Gomis.

I disagree with you, to a degree, about the squad’s needs have been apparent for some time. A left back and centre back would not have been my priority.
The results point to the fact that it is our strike force who are failing not our defence.
We have lost many games by a single goal margin. If we had scored a single goal we wouldn’t be in the precarious position we find ourselves today.
To me, the key position was the midfield, left wing and centre forward in that order of priority. As hard as Colback and Anita work they don’t have the vision and forward passing ability that Cabaye had. Playing Gini on the left meant that he drifted into his natural number 10 role leaving our left back exposed. Shelvey and Townsend should readdress this team imbalance and weakness.
As regards Mitrovic I’m not too sure as centre forwards thrive on service and it would not be totally accurate to say he hasn’t had that service as Gini has scored most, if not all, his goals in the six yard box so there is service there.
But I agree with you that we will need a centre back as I suspect that this may be Colo’s last season.

I suppose i meant “some” of the money. I have no particular player in mind, but if we have up to 25m lying around, then surely there are a couple of decent LBs looking for regular football.

Comment #24With Doumbia coming in if we had signed a LB and CB this would be one of our best ever windows.
We have so much pace within the team now something we have missed so much, just at the other end we have conceded far too many. Signing attacking players is greatly needed but so are defenders or I feel we are still going down.

Comment #25Sky News have just shown pics of Berahino turning up in the last half hour for training at West Brom.
So he’s not secretely squirreled away for a medical.
Looks increasingly unlikely that he will become a Toon player.

Comment #28Here is hoping that the fact the club have not announced the signing of Doumbia, is because they do not want to make multiple announcements when they can announce 2 or 3 signings at once.

Comment #29Well Pearce should be sent to the loony bin if he thinks he going to get close to 25 million in the summer with 12 months left on his contract.
He will going tonight thats my predictions and if not I going to put something on WBA to get relegated and lmao at Pearce.

If we’re after a loan I think we’re after Willems in the summer. Personally I’d be worried about screwing with the back 4 at this point in time, we don’t have the time to let them gel. They’re sorta settled, cover would be nice but unless it’s a real quality player I’d give it a miss until summer.

Comment #31Pulis has not been playing Berahino this season, presumably to get WBA used to playing without him. West Brom have got themselves into a position where they are not reliant on Berahino, it would be a strange move to keep him if they can get over £20 million.

Comment #38The whole story of him not wanting to sell to a relefgation rival is a load of bs. He gets 20 plus million to make the necessary additions he needs and in cash.
Rather let him rot on the bench and not strenghen a very weak squad. All the makings of Dumb and Dumber 3 those to are at a hiding to nothing come the end of the season.

Never played FIFA lol.
Pearce was talking about it the other day with a few of the pundits and actually bigged up the stats etc part of the game.
It was a very interesting conversation and it seems they are very impressed how acurate some of the stats etc are and how they can be used or looked at as a reference book on players.
Something I wasn’t expecting to hear tbh
