Newcastle In Move For Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs

9:20 am, Monday, February 1st, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 31 Comments

The Mail are reporting that Newcastle are considering a deadline day swoop for Arsenal’s England Intentional left-back Kieran Gibbs.

Newcastle are trying to get a left-sided defender in today, after we missed out on both Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira and Valencia’s 26-year-old defender Lucas Orban yesterday.

Kieran Gibbs t

Kieran Gibbs – can Newcastle get this player in on loan?

The 26-year-old Englishman has been kept out of the Arsenal side this season by Spanish International Nacho Monreal and he is desperate for first team football so he has some chance of making Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the Euro 2016 finals in France in June.

There have been rumors that Newcastle were interested in Gibbs over the last couple of days, so it’s not that surprising that Newcastle would go in today and try to get Kieran on loan.

With Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title it will largely depend on whether manager Arsene Wenger will allow Kieran to leave on loan, or whether he needs him at the Emirates to help with their title drive.

Kieran has been at Arsenal all his career and made his debut way back in 2007 when he started a League Cup match against Sheffield United in that October when he had just turned 18.

Gibbs has played 202 times for the Gunners with 6 goals and he has 10 full caps for England.

He would be an excellent loan signing for Newcastle – if we can get him.

Comments welcome.

YouCouldnt – you’re right to an extent although Doumbia would be on loan. But even with one striker through the door one of Mitro or Perez (most likely Perez) will need to be on the bench.

Usually our transfer business (whether a lot or hardly anything) is done and dusted before deadline day – in fact I cannot remember the last time we bought a player on deadline day – so at least for once we can join in the excitement that SSN always show for deadline day

For WBA losing Berahino is not dependant on bringing in a replacement but getting the maximum fee. It could well drag on. Paying in full rather than in staged payments could well win us the prize. Levy is the only obstacle.

This story would normally have no credence but as Hodgson will now probably be at most of our remaining 15 games to watch Jonjo and Andros it could well be true

Where are we on the goals scored list?

We’ve been beaten by the odd goal except 2/3 times when we rolled over and took a hiding. How many if the last 10 have we lost 1-0 despite having umpteen chances.

    P.s. Who’s Ian’s alias?

    Belfast- Keep the faith.

  • 8 WWSBRD // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:28 AM

So in order to cover our injured LB and injured CB playing at LB we want to bring in a very injury prone LB….cracking stuff

Tbf I quite like Gibbs but he does love the injury table

  • 12 spaghetti bandit // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:31 AM

Graham Courtney talksport north east reporter says we definitely bid jus south of 25 million n he said he couldn’t of got this information from a better source,, so thts a concrete bid of more than 24 n a half million!!!! Is he even worth this I don’t know,, know it’s not my money but is there better available for tht dough..still think he will improve us but maybe money could be better spent

  • 13 WWSBRD // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:31 AM

offer west brom Marv & Rivi as well as the dough

  • 17 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:34 AM

To be fair, if we signed Iron Man at LB he would still get injured.

  • 18 welshgeordie9 // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:35 AM

West brom player, will he won’t he will, i hope that don’t last all day, probably will though, got a feeling either we are going to up the bid or make a very late attempt to sign either get Remy on loan or Gomis, can’t see either of those happening, i think both clubs want it permanent, to expensive to be honest considering how old they both are.

with reguards to this transfer window.

saivet signs; he’s n improvement on our dm’s but its obv he will take time to settle and what he lacks on tiote’s aggression he gains a lot more in his discaplin and eye for a forward pass.

at this point i’m slightly disapointed as it’s clear its not a key area signing for us even though he’s a good signing.

shelvey sign’s: now heres a player i’ve liked for a long time and will improve us no end imo ! he will add goals and create goals all while being solid in cm so a great signing imo.

so…knowing fatman like i do i’m thinking to myself theres no way on earth he’s spending 50mil in the first part of the season and 15mil in the second part and i’m happy we have had ambition enough to sign players of shelvey/wijnaldum’s ect quality.

every signing after that just makes things better for me personally and thats not mentioning our young loanee’s and those rubbish we have got rid of !

  • 20 Blackley and Brownlie // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:36 AM

    It’s a dis – aars -ter, darling.

No planning. Get bad lads going back to Nile Ranger. What happened to astute signings of honest pros like Beresford, Lee, G Peacock, Kelly, Sellars?

  • 21 Take a Chancel on me // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:36 AM

Gomis can stay where he his, not good enough

  • 22 Toon_Tom // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:36 AM

I’m not going to lie – this has the making to be the most exciting deadline day in a decade!

The fact we are being linked to so many is exciting in itself, the fact we have just tables a record bid for someone, the fact we have already made brilliant signings which will help encourage people to join, the fact Ashley is prepared to loosen his purse strings!

Even if nobody else comes thru the door today (but i think we will be surprised tonight) it has been an exciting window.

Id rather keep the £25M for the summer if Doumbia is definitely on board or even Splash it on a cracking LB and CB today!

Cahill, Willems, Santon, Gibbs to name a few..

And go in for Remy on loan!

  • 23 WWSBRD // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:38 AM

    Haha yeah hard to argue

  • 24 Ron Knee // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:39 AM

I know it’s market forces and all that, but is Berahino “worth” more than the £14/15 million we paid for Gini Wijnaldum?

  • 25 TomaKaThor // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:44 AM

As long as its only a loan I am all for it.

  • 26 TomaKaThor // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:45 AM

No Rom, if he was Scottish we would be paying over 15 mill

  • 27 TomaKaThor // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:46 AM

    We would not*

  • 28 optimistic prime // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:48 AM

What’s your opinion on Gomis as a player? You must’ve watched him more than anyone on here, I guess.

How much would you say he’s worth?

  • 29 stephen1971 // Feb 1, 2016 at 9:53 AM

how can swansea block any gomis deal ? has he not got a 7 mill buy out clause ? maybe a loan deal, i,d rather see mitro on the park than him

  • 30 MAUTITOON // Feb 1, 2016 at 10:23 AM

Despite reported interest from Newcastle, Stoke and Tottenham in Saido Berahino, Sky Sports reports that the striker will not be leaving West Brom today.

  • 31 posada // Feb 1, 2016 at 10:53 AM

The post is about Gibbs as a fullback and yet no one has mentioned him.
He would do the job and you would know what you were getting.
At the end of the day a full back is a fullback. There are plenty out there.
    Goal scorers that’s another matter.
