Ayoze Perez has signed a new deal at Newcastle after he must have been on very low wages for the last 18 months after he was signed in the summer of 2014 for the Peter Beardsley’s Development squad.
But since then of course he has made some great strides and has played 62 times for the Newcastle first team with 12 goals and he’s become an important player for us.
Steve McClaren and Ayoze Perez today
Some top clubs have been after the 22 year-old but he seems to just love it at Newcastle and certainly he a huge fan favorite.
The deal is a five and a half year deal that takes him to 2021 at Newcastle – and the terms – the wages – will be much improved from what he has been earning.
But Ayoze has earned the new deal and he’s a terrific young professional who never complains and always talks about how he can get fitter and better at Newcastle.
Just the type of lad we need at the club.
This is what Ayoze said about the new deal:
“It’s a special day for me, a big day for me,” “The truth is I’m really happy here, so it’s a good thing for me – and I hope it’s the same for the Geordie family.”
“Newcastle gave me everything and I’m really pleased to sign this new contract.”
Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren said this:
“I am delighted that Ayoze has signed a new deal.” “He is a very good player with huge potential and someone we believe has a very big future at Newcastle United.”
“We are trying to build this Club for the long-term, and you can see that through our transfer business,” “Ayoze has proved himself to be a very good player and I am delighted he has extended his contract here.”
“He has surprised me in terms of his ability. He can change a game, win a game and has scored some important goals for us this season. He has been a big plus.”
“There is a lot more to come from Ayoze and that will happen in a Newcastle United shirt.””
Good words from Steve McClaren there.
It was a bit long in coming but this is very good news – better late than never.
Congratulations to Ayoze and bang some of those goals in for us over the next 15 games.
