Alan Shearer Reacts To Awful Newcastle

10:18 pm, Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 65 Comments

Alan Shearer had it right when he said Newcastle were awful and it was good job Rob Elliot made some good saves for us.

Alan says they were awful tonight – he could just as easily used shocking, disgraceful, insipid, terrible, pathetic – all would have described tonight’s performance – and how much has Mike Ashley paid out for players since last season?

If Mike Ashley wants to have a Premier League club next season he needs to make some decisions – soon – on Steve McClaren – he’s just not good enough and has shown that all season.

That’s the truth.

hmmmm our last 2 saviours were jfk and carver!
just think about that for a minute and then ask for us to change manager again!

tang he’s in the same position so no for me he goes missing away so does sisko

and for me mitro again misses an absolute sitter he should be in double figures by now but i do feel sorry for him all that pressure on a 21 y/o in a new country and new league is ridiculous
and wat will take us down!

That was depressing. Very little fight, very little tactics, very little class. On the up side, to stay up we need to win at the BARE minimum 6. I see 7 winnable matches.

    West Brom (H), Bournemouth (H), Sunderland (H), Norwich (A), Swansea (H), Palace (H), Villa (A).

If we dont get a response and win against West Brom then i’m gonna prepare myself emotionally for relegation.

For the first time ever I will be ignoring the match on sat. I will be doing up my house in Wallsend with no radio on……if we do play well you are welcome to pop round and join me in a painting beer whilst laughing at me
I do not expect to win and I can’t keep ruining weekends on it. Fingers crossed I am wrong

I am not even going to comment on the game right now, but is Mbembe alright?

There must be the mother of all betting scans going on if we are going to stay up

    Band B

It’s funny if you believe in karma. Ash, Carr, Charnley, SM, wonga, the whole package really.

A bunch of disparate and under qualified individuals panicked desperately in the transfer window yet still didn’t address the right areas of concern.

If we go down it will be a hollow moral triumph over a despicable owner who entrusted part of his empire to cronies and familiars not in possession of the requisite ability, acumen and intellectual wherewithall to facilitate such an undertaking.

I too am sad but also angry.

  • 9 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:28 PM

There’s 2 hrs of my life i wont get back. Pardew did better than macca. People want to blame carr now. The fact is, it’s only ever been one persons fault. Mashley. He owns the club. Runs it badly. He is an awful cu*t. We will be in league 1 in 2 years time because of this fat b@stard.

  • 10 toon kk // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:29 PM

Our work rate was a disgrace.

  • 11 lochinvar // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:30 PM

Wow – what insight, what vision, what crap

Newcastle manager Steve McClaren: “In the first half you could see that the Everton players and supporters were nervous, we didn’t take advantage of that, we weren’t aggressive enough.

“In the second half we had a go but it wasn’t enough. Too many players were below par. We can’t play like that in front of 52,000 fans on Saturday, we need a reaction, we have to do better than that.”

  • 12 stan anderson // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:30 PM

In our defence,we dont have one do we.
Townsend looks like the fast running bald french guy who we already have on the payroll forgot his name already.
Mac looked well pissed at the closing stages.Think he realises he is not getting the job done.

  • 16 toon kk // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:32 PM

We are playing without a striker, how can we score.

  • 17 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:32 PM

And,if anyone wants to disagree, then by the rules of this blog and its one sidedness, they are stupid degenerates. You reap what you sow. Either have a boring manager who has poor runs, but keeps you up. Or a manager who wants to attack but has no clue and gets you relegated. The evidence is clear.

  • 18 welshgeordie9 // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:32 PM

Everton players and fans were nervous from the start, what planet is this muppet on.

  • 19 BandB // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:32 PM

The efforts of Messrs Pardew and Carr mean two things for the fans.

The first is that we now have to lose eight games on the trot before it clicks we are a teeny weeny bit out of form.
The other is that we assume it will be all right, and we’ll escape in the nick of time, like we always do.

  • 20 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:33 PM

Mark…Ashley is bad owner no doubt but it’s just simplifying a bigger issue by saying it’s all down to that.

I agree he hires poor personal, but you need to look at the decisions they make and the job they are doing. It’s not like they cannot fart without asking Ashley!

  • 21 manxpie // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:33 PM

  • 22 Jib // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:33 PM

It’s only when there’s nights like this that you realise how many not very knowledgeable folk post on here.

I could list some of the regular posters and highlight their lack of footy nous but what would be the point.

We were playing away against a top half team that has had a dip in form and had something to prove to their fans.

We had players on the pitch , one has never played for us before and 2 others just signed this window.

Their first goal was fortuitous rather than well worked .

We were still in it for a point until the 88th minute.

We conceded the killer goals chasing a draw.

There are still 42 points to play for

  • 23 welshgeordie9 // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:34 PM

I did say last night this was going to be tough but i didn’t expect it to be this tough, feel sorry for all the new players in the middle of all this.

  • 24 NoahJ // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:34 PM

if we don’t beat west brom, and if Norwich beat villa (could easily happen), then that would basically be it.

we will likely lose to chelsea after that, then don’t play for 2 weeks; we could be 10 points from safety.

I genuinely want Mclaren to consider his position; he said it himself, he has NO excuse now

  • 25 jimiley // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:35 PM

  • 26 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:35 PM

I see what you are saying. But basically, my argument is this….

Ashley is the ONLY COMMON FACTOR through all the years of dross.

  • 27 stan anderson // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:37 PM

Most folk realised we needed defenders bought, but the nobs running the club did,nt.So the problem that has been clear to see for years is not resolved.
Ashley puts these nobs in charge of the club so he is to blame for the shambles we have at NUFC.

  • 29 Williamson is Bramble in disguise // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:37 PM

Sorry lads I missed the interviews after the game, were we terrific again or has he finally admitted we were crap? Had abit of a go towards the 75 minute mark but could have easily been 5 or 6 if it wernt for Elliot. This policy of replacing good players with other teams trash really isn’t working, townsend can go straight in the red bin down the park. And shelvey while not as bad is definitely not a cabaye or anywhere near. We barely even got the ball in the box today it was shocking… And was just thinking on deadline day what happens if mbemba gets injured… Guess I get to find out now! Mcclaren needs to go asap!

  • 31 West Lancs Geordie // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:38 PM

Good point Jesper because if Mbembeis now out for a few matches & if Dummett is back injured again, with Lascelles suspended for three games. We will only have three fit defenders available one of whom is sick note Saylor. So it will have to be three at the back & go gung ho attack. Play Winaldrum,Doumbia & Perez up top With Midfield of Townsend,Saivet, Shelvey & Sissoko.
Subs Mitro,Gouffran, Tiote (if available) & any defenders from our youth set up.
It was inevitable that we would get MORE injuries & suspensions after window shut. Just have to hope Saylor last 90 mins & Colback,Anita & Mbabu are back very soon. Relegation places now down to two from three, Canaries Mackems & Us with Villa already goners

  • 34 NoahJ // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:40 PM

I really want to like mitrovic, but my god, that miss when it was still 1-0. This has happened way too many times this season, and has probably cost us around 4 points alone.

He’s just not good enough as a sole striker.

Oh, and perez is not a striker either (he’s a very good box to box midfielder, but he simply cannot command the box itself).

I would play perez with doumbia on saturday

Jib we were far from ‘in it’ at any point in the game everton were all over us from the first whistle we were lucky it wasn’t more

And youcouldn’tmakeitup – don’t forget king colo! He’s played his part in trying to take us down several times too… In fact the only time I remember us keeping 3 straight clean sheets was when he was out of the side and we had Willo & m’biwa…

  • 39 West Lancs Geordie // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:43 PM

Sounds like Shearer wants the job of taking us down again.
Don’t turn on Cashley again now. He knows nowt about football. He stumped up the money & McLaren, Carr & chairman failed to prioritise and spent it unwisely on midfielders. That coupled with our horrendous constant injury record is why we are where we are. Win against WBA an absolute must!

Yes ashley has caused this dross but unless we get lucky and get a new owner to get rid we have to get on with it but he has stumpted up cash for players but we have an enept manager who has not got a clue how to manage our GREAT club. • 48 Bambams // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:48 PM

I said in an earlier thread that Everton had not had a penalty this season but never thought they would get two.
We need to work out why Wini and Perez are not involved when we play away. Mitro has my backing, he is a young lad and has put pressure on himself. Problem is we can’t carry anyone.
For Saturday Doumbia must start, I would play him with Mitro or Perez.

We are running out of games and excuses.

I never thought it possible but Mac has Saturday or he could be in trouble. Two managers waiting for someone to get the chop.

If only we had three worse teams…

    I am worried

  • 49 jimiley // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:48 PM

The owner of this site is definitely in Ashleys pocket. The American never agitates against the owner. To be fair, the owner has put his hand in his pocket but his employees are puppets and useless and will take us down. it is nothing more than he deserves.

  • 50 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:48 PM

    Mark…in a perfect world Ashley wouldn’t own a football club 😉

  • 51 West Lancs Geordie // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:48 PM

Tactics tonight were up the pole. WE are paying for having to rely on young inexperienced players like Aarons & Lascelles who re not yet ready for the Premiership. Perez has been good but had to be plunged in far too soon . He was initially bought for the future. Again Mitro is only 21 but has missed far too many chances. Would have been just impact player from subs bench but for Cisse injury. You can’t run a sucessful Prem side with for ever 10/12 ist team squad in the treatment room. Leaves no flexibility.

  • 52 jimiley // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:50 PM

    Miitro has my backing???????

Lanzatoon I wish mcclaren could see the same dross we watch that’d be a start! Taking us down to his level at an alarming rate…. We need to get rid fast! Rather wed of spent all that January money on a contract for Mourinho…offer him football’s biggest challenge!

  • 54 manxpie // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:52 PM

i know ycmiu thats wat the smiley face was for my main aim was at the posters who blame carr or the manager
even pardew got us in the top half on quite a few occasions
but best not say that on here because he had the best squad ever and all that
half the french squad infact at 1 point forgetting the fact that it was the worst french team in a long long time
but hey that was his fault too

too little far far far far to late!

  • 55 West Lancs Geordie // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:53 PM

Agree with all you said Bambams including being worried . Can’t just start Perez up front on his own.We must attack West Brom straight from the kick on Saturday but can’t imagine what our bench will look like. Some young lad bound to get a batism of fire in defence even if only coming on as sub.

Fella I see some good qualities in him, I don’t think he is an out and out striker but I will still support him. He had a great chance today and failed to hit the target. It’s his first season and he is a young lad.
I don’t disagree with you and like I suggested Doumbia must start on Saturday because it’s not working.
But I am not going to give up on him .
    Just my opinion fella.

  • 61 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:56 PM

WLG…it was always horrendous decision not to strengthen the defense…and I don’t think Ashley send Charnley a memo saying not to. They have spend £100M this season basically in the wrong areas.

  • 62 Premiership Manager // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:58 PM

Two weeks ago everybody was singing McClarens praises saying we have it cracked the football is exciting and everything is clicking into place.

In the last two matches McClarren has simply picked the wrong team and is trying to accommodate the new buys.

Mito should have started with Perez however who do you drop to accommodate Townsend and Shelvey?

Some fans slate Colback however what has happend in the last two matches is we have lost the balance in midfield and that is critical in any team.

Shelvey made two good passes but other than that his contribution was minimal. Saviet had a good game and should have never been taken off and bringing Aarons on at LB was a major mistake.

Now we have two first team defenders for Saturday with Taylor and no other cover when we knew we badly needed a LB for cover.

On the whole McClaren needs more time as the players are working for him but we need goals and he has to pick the right players. If he loses the team he needs to go.

A new manager will not fix it and more than anything we need results.

  • 63 Wayayman // Feb 3, 2016 at 10:58 PM

Taking Saviet off was suicide against that midfield. He was reading the game well and couldn’t believe he was hooked. Shelvey was lacking pace and touch today. Hopefully it’s a one off as he had a mare. Gini was totally and utterly woeful, sissoko was his usual non entity.
If Macca had just replaced Perez with Mitro then that would have at least allowed players to play in familiar positions. Instead we ended up with an inexperienced young left sided attacker llaying left back ( that itself shows total lack of awareness in both hoe he oppo were playing and how Aaron’s ability in that position)
We had say lot in the bench, we should have had him on at CB and lascelles at Lb OR we could have tried 3 at the back of push came to it.
We ended up with a left footed attacker at left back, another new left footed attacker at right mid, a right sided midfielder in centre mid and a striker in at right mid. How the hell can no one in power at the club see that Schteve it totally and utterly bereft of any tactical nous and lacks the balls to do the right thing and walk.

Is McClaren trying to relive his finest hour as England manager, buying up dodgy England players. Unfortunately with much the same results. All we need is the brolly.
