This New Newcastle Team Can Win At Everton

It looks like Seydou Doumbia may not get his visa through for the tough game at Everton tonight – so we’ll assume he’s not available, but with four new players coming in we should be able to field a good side from now on – through the last 15 games of the season.

Bournemouth won at Crystal Palace last night and they are putting some wins together – 3 wins in the last 5 games – and are now 7 points clear of Newcastle and Swansea drew 1-1 at West Brom – 7 points from their last 3 games – so they are now 5 points clear of us although Sunderland, Aston Villa and Norwich all lost last night.

Doumbia probably not available tonight

So we have to put some wins on the board if we are not to be in the bottom four who are starting to be left behind at the bottom of the table.

Paul Dummett is fit again, but we’ll assume Jack Colback is not fit enough for tonight – so this could be the side that turns out at Goodison Park.

Janmaat Mbemba Coloccini (c) Dummett
Sissoko Saivet Shelvey Townsend
Subs: Darlow Taylor Lascelles Gouffran de Jong Aarons Perez

We are assuming Doumbia is not available and when fit we assume he would be starting up front in place of Mitrovic.

What would your team be for tonight?

Wins are what will save us this season and we think at least 40 points will be needed to be safe this season – so that’s at least six wins we need.

We could get things off to a very good start with all 3 points tonight at Goodison Park, although the ground has never been an easy place for us to go and win.

We cannot keep making up excuses when we don’t win – the time to put our act together is now.

Jail for Ashley // Feb 3, 2016 at 7:45 AM

If that post @ 101 was aimed at me then I know exactly what post it was. Ella Guru was just saying what a lot of people are thinking on the folly of not strengthening the PL’s third worst defence but don’t want to say in case of being called a ‘negger’ or to shut up moaning by the likes of you. Had the vote had a third option imo it wouldn’t have had a 90% approval rate.

Will Tiote be available, or is he still in negotiations with that Chinese club?

If Everton or WBA beat us, then they should be out of the relegation battle. As I expect Chelsea and Bournemouth to do well, if we lose both these games that only leaves us, Swansea, Norwich, and Sunderland. 2 out of those 4 will go down. Swansea have changed manager and Norwich have made several signings so if one of those teams goes on a run we are in big trouble. Especially as 2 of our last 3 games are difficult. Quite simply we need to win these next two games and then WBA will also be in the mix to go down. If we win both, it will also put teams like Palace and Watford in the dangerzone.

It looks bad now re table. As it stands we are favourites… But there are many games left, very many. What kind of twists and turns will happen? Who will go on a run? Which of those teams will be dragged into it?

My sense is it’s us or Norwich. But there may be a surprise candidate out there, like palace or Bournemouth or WBA

    Janmaat Mbemba Colo Dummett
    Saviet Shelvey
    Sissoko Gini Townsend
Aarons or perez to replace Sissoko if he has another stinker, then switch wings with townsend, Mitro could and Gini could cause havoc with Stones tonight if they are on form.

I think we’ll get a draw tonight, maybe even a win.

I’d play Perez above Townsend. He defends more which will be useful away to Everton. Not only that he’s match fit, a better crosser, better at link-up play, and scores more goals – even though he’s been in a weaker team. Some might say he’s not a left winger, but he’s done well there in the past, and Townsend hasn’t played left wing much either despite being left footed which I can only assume is on account of his poor crossing. Townsends direct pace will cause problems if he’s brought on with 30 to go.

Perez has been unlucky this season as a few times when he’s scored and his confidence must have been up, McClaren has put him on the bench for the next game. He’d got 3 in 7 the first time he was dropped. Then after scoring against West Ham and Spurs found himself on the bench the next game. Goalscorers thrive off confidence and often get their goals in these purple spells. If McClaren had left him in the team, he might have gone on a goal-scoring run.

I think Swansea will go down. They only have two strikers in their squad. One is Gomis, who has a strike record comparable to Shola’s, the other is some Italian they’ve just bought. If he flops, they are screwed. Norwich and Sunderland should struggle, but there’s always one team surprises everybody. Likewise one team always plummets. I really hope it’s Palace. Hardly any of their goals have been from open play. Hopefully Cabaye will get injured and the penalties, free-kicks and corners will dry up.

We must get something out of the game tonight. Preferably a win, as that will push us on in our home game against WBA, but we cannot afford to lose. We must put some light between us and the Mackems and try and shove Norwich down into the bottom 3. If we can get some confidence, there’s no reason why we couldn’t go on a bit of a run up the table and put pressure on WBA, Bournemouth, Swansea and others. The game is live on Supersport 5 if anyone has access.

    Janmaat, MBemba, Colo, Dummett
    Sissoko, Gini, Townsend
    Mitrovic, Perez

Use the two strikers and put pressure on Everton’s leaking defense. As much as I love Howard, he hasn’t been strong under pressure this season. Shelvey will bail out the back 4 and his passing can move the ball up the field quicker. Gini, Mitrovic and Perez should be able to move the ball well enough on Everton to get the 3 points. Once ahead pull a striker and bring on Saivet or Tiote if he is avalable.

What planet are you living on, this team couldn’t fight its way out of a paper bag. Their a disgrace to everyone associated with the club, were dead as dodo’s.
