Andros Townsend starts for Newcastle tonight at Everton and the other good news is that Seydou Doumbia has got his visa and has been cleared to play and he’s on the bench with the number 22 shirt.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has been dropped with Ayoze Perez up front in the starting line-up and Paul Dummett is back in at left-back.
Teams:
Everton (4-2-3-1): Joel Robles; Seamus Coleman, Phil Jagielka (c), Ramiro Funes Mori, Bryan Oviedo; James McCarthy, Gareth Barry; Aaron Lennon, Ross Barkley, Tom Cleverley; Romelu Lukaku
Substitutes: Jindrich Stanek, Leighton Baines, Darron Gibson, Leon Osman, Steven Pienaar, Gerard Deulofeu, Arouna Kone
Newcastle (4-4-1-1): Rob Elliot; Daryl Janmaat, Chancel Mbemba, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Moussa Sissoko, Henri Saivet, Jonjo Shelvey, Andros Townsend; Ayoze Perez
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Jamaal Lascelles, Steven Taylor, Yoan Gouffran, Rolando Aarons, Seydou Doumbia, Aleksandar Mitrovic
Referee: Craig Pawson (South Yorkshire)
This is a new look Newcastle side with the three of the four January signings starting the game.
We must get something out of this game tonight.
For Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard is out injured and in comes Robles.
Steve McClaren has to stop talking about how good we were when we lose games – 12 so far in the league and we’ve only played 23 games – so more than half lost.
It’s all about results starting tonight at Goodison Park.
We need to get wins on the board.
This is what Steve McClaren said about the game tonight – initially about Doumbia’s availability, which wasn’t know at the time:
“We’re hoping Doumbia will be available for Everton) – it’s touch and go.” “But if against Everton, then definitely Saturday.”
“He hasn’t played in the Premier League and hasn’t trained for a couple of weeks, so he may take a while to adapt.”
“But he has a record of goals and adds to our competition for places.” “Mitrovic has been our only recognized number nine for a while.”
“But with Doumbia coming in and Cisse back in three or four weeks, we have strikers who can score goals.”
“Everton are a very difficult opponent with that crowd behind them at home.” “It will be a great atmosphere, as it always is for a night game.”
“This season’s defeats have all hurt, but that one against Everton was cruel.” “But two days later we recovered and gave a good performance against West Brom when we could have been dejected and down. (but we still lost that one too)”
“This is another opportunity. We know how good Everton are, but we have three games in 10 days and we know how important they are for us.”
Fans cannot decide on the result tonight.
We really need an outright win.

Comment #13It’s not looking very good Tiote… not even a place on the bench. I have to say, it is going to be very interesting to see what Saviet can do in his place.

Comment #18Baines, Pienaar, Deulofeu on bench? Barry and Cleverly in midfield?
Jeez, that is a very odd lineup from Everton, especially at home.
I like Newcastle’s chances now. Very aggessive starting 11 vs a watered down everton side

Comment #19Happy with that line up,, interesting,,
dont think many would have left Mitro out , but could be the right thing to do,, everton are poor at the back so pace up top to open them up is key,, saying that, stones would have been bossed by Mitro,, him and the new guy to come on after 60-70 mins, (or 87th min knowing Shteve).. should be good

Comment #21Official site says it is 4-4-1-1
With Gini playing off Perez.
Perez cannot head a ball properly only Gini is any use with his head.
Very unsure about this line up.

Comment #26I cannot quite understand why there is no central midfielder on the bench. If Saivet has mare, there isn’t much can be done by way of a reshuffle.

Seydou and mitrovic look good on there, but my first trouts were that that is a very weak bench. Still far from convinced on lascelles and aarons.
Goofy still being apart of our first team is pathetic.
But hey ho. Wish mitro was on from the off but still hoping and expecting a win

a post a few threads back, P45 was welcomed here by pretty much all after a tricky first half season, his first full season he could do no wrong, but a few of us who gave him a chance actually spotted the difference between what we were seeing and the pap he talked. we got slaughtered for it, even though we backed it all up by Valid stats, all we were told was look a the table

Comment #34Maybe tonight Perez will shine like a beacon, he may not be the best header of the ball but he has good feet and will exploit any space in behind them.
Looking forward to this game, 2-0 Toon Gini & Perez to score.

Comment #35Counter-attacking side with 1 thing on their mind … REVENGE!
Losing the home game to Everton the way we did was like a slap across the chops, hopefully we can return the favour tonight.
Still think we’ll draw this 0-0 or 1-1, but I’d love us to tear them apart from the first minute and defeat them heavily.

Comment #38Strange forwards line up. Ball wont stick up top without nitro and he will be missed on defending corners too. This will put pressure on saivet. I think he has potential – and havent made a wrong call on a toon player yet so here’s hoping!
