Newcastle fans celebrated the great win and the great display by Newcastle today as they went immediately onto Twitter with many of our players putting in some excellent performances and we dominated West Brom from start to finish.
But maybe our big weakness was still apparent because we missed so many chances and only won the game 1-0 – another reason why our goal difference is so poor.
But hey – a win is a win – and on this form surely we can get enough points to stay up?
Norwich lost at Aston Villa 2-0 and Sunderland came back to draw 2-2 with Liverpool and Swansea drew 1-1 at home to Crystal Palace.
We are now 4th bottom and out of the relegation zone.
Aleksandar Mitrovic – scores all important goal

Comment #2I should bet more often.
.
I said the Unwashed would get a point at Anfield
There was a supporters syndicate in Leicester placed £1000 on the Foxes to win the league in July they got 5,000 -1 with Ladbrokes.
It’s reported that Ladbrokes offered them £1,000,000 after the game at the Etihad to cancel the bet.
Should they take it ?

Comment #3Glad for the win today but I’m still very unhappy that McLaren is going to be the manager in charge when our losing streak starts next game. Even with 70% of the play against WBA and a magnificent crowd in excess of 50,000 behind the team, we could only muster a solitary goal ad endure jangling nerves of an almost equaliser. So today we scraped a win but I fear with the same manager, we will be relegated.

Scraped …a win, are you a mackem…we dominated …everything…could have been 10 .. West Brom were shocking ..weather that was us playing well, or just a bad day i do not know….Yes nervous last 10, only because the last 40 years we’ve buggered it up….They al were superb…even Taylor..MOM Aarons playing out of position \ young and cool…No one of them was less then a 7 out of 10

Comment #9C0me on Ed lets not get carried away a much better performance than Wednesday but hardly great, in the end we tried our best to give it away. WBA were there for the taking but we ould not capatiliize on our domination and if WBA had anyone up front with any degree of finishing ability we would have been really struggling. Rob Elliot had most probably his quitest game ever for NUFC as WBA were so inept at going for goal. Sounds like I describing NUFC really mind what was wrong with Tiotes goal I am yet to find out, linesman never put his flag up ref gave goal and then went to talk with linesman and goal disallowed why I have no idea. All I can think of is that Mitro Was in keepers line of site but on replay it looked like the ball came of a defender so that should not have mattered, anyway I will take three points anytime however they come but although this was a better performance it certainly not great. Sissoko rubish yet again and McLarens subs rediculous yet again but three points is three points no matter what I or anyone else thinks of how they were achieved

Comment #10Toon kk Townsend had a good game. He put in some good crosses and was unlucky not to score after a brilliant turn in the box. Tiote had a great game and seemed to take a lot of pressure off Shelvey, although WBA weren’t great to be honest. I thought Aaron’s did well at LB and Taylor was really solid. Mitro was a rock at the front and won a lot of ball for us. Really good all round performance, although Gini header should’ve gone in and not sure how Sissoko missed fro a few yard out. Certainly should’ve been 3/4 nil. I’ll take the 3 points though ????

not sure which game you watch but if we had won by the odd 5/6 i would not have been surprised we just can not put the ball in the net ………….other than that a great team performance 8/10

Comment #12No complaints other than we didn’t take chances. Phil Thomson on Sky said all players were no less than an 8 – have to agree with him possibly for first time.
WBA have very hard away run in and on that display I can’t see many points coming their way. Home form will be crucial for them but they can easily get sucked in now.
McClaren needs to utilise players as well away as he did today and we can get the away points we desperately need. Our next couple away matches will show if we can up performances even if we struggle for points but must start burying chances. Oh and a big nod to Aarons today who apart from one ill-judged tackle didn’t let us down .
Having an early Birthday meal shortly with Family so won’t get indigestion now and might even enjoy MOTD after a few drinks.

Comment #14Thought Townsend was ok, but bbc calling him man of the match- seriously?
He did a few good runs, and obviously hit the post, but he runs into people way too often, and loses the ball. he’ll do a great cross, but then do two terrible ones. frustrating!
All in all, thought tiote was outstanding, shelvey was very good (esp in first half), taylor played well, as did aarons. Mitrovic was also very good.
Can’t help but feel slightly frustrated that we didn’t score more. west brom were absolutely dire today, and we could easily have been punished against a better team

Comment #16Great win today. Man of the match, apart from Rob Elliott, who had zilch to do it could have been one of many. Townsend had a great game and was so close to the second goal, also with his positive runs we were on the front foot and drew two defenders each time he had the ball. Lets keep the negativity for its time and place. A little surprised Seydou Doumbia didn,t get a longer run especially given the chances we missed, but hey a great, timely win
