Newcastle’s £12M acquisition of Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey was deemed the best-value signing of the January transfer window, according to a study by the CIES Football Observatory.
The Observatory is a team that estimates transfer values based on over 1,500 deals in the top five European leagues since June of 2009.
Jonjo Shelvey – worth £23.5M
But we also overspent by about £4.5M on Andros Townsend as they estimate he was worth only £7.5M – it was that damned Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy!
🙂
Here are the best signings as tabled by the CIES Football Observatory.
Name From To Fee Underpaid by
Jonjo Shelvey Swansea Newcastle £12M £11.5M Augusto Fernandez Celta Vigo Atletico Madrid £5M £2.48M Mario Suarez Fiorentina Watford £4M £2.24M
Notice that Newcastle underpaid for Shelvey by £11.5M and yet the next best deal was underpaying by just £2.48M – so Newcastle seem to have got a fantastic deal.
Let’s hope Ashley doesn’t put Shelvey up for sale for £23.5M in the summer.
So hey – we overpaid £4.5M for Andros Townsend who we are almost sure is going to turn out to be a great signing for us and we underpaid £11.5M for Shelvey.
Now let’s think for a NY minute.
Well we are still £7M to the good and yes – that sounds good to us.
Especially when they could save Newcastle’s Premier League status this season and that approximately £140M we will get a in May next year should we survive.
As Albert Einstein was fond of saying – it’s all relative baby.
🙂

You need the solidarity of Belfast rather than the flaky types. . Don’t believe everything you read. I never had you down as a fool.
If your impressed by robmactoon all I’ll say is you’re easily impressed.
Personally I see Belfast as someone you can rely upon.
Don’t you understand that anyone can make claims about you on here or in the real world but it has to be substantiated which it wasn’t.
Can I thank who ever the 23 bloggers were who stuck up for me.

Comment #43BandB – you are probably right. Really did not want to replicate last nights proceedings as it might make others fed up with it continuing.
But there again I was not anticipating an outrageous re-appearance so soon, and definitely not the next day.
A bloody brass necked scally if I ever saw one.

Comment #45Ian, you and your family have no reason to attack me, past or present. I have only ever reacted rather than initiate.
You insinuated that I looked for you down the The Cradlewell, or was it The Punch Bowl, with my mate Belfast or did you mean Ciaran? Is this not true?
You have a cheek pal, now you and your family move on.

I stopped responding to you a while ago.
Nor do I care if you have 20 aliases or none.
They don’t amount to a hill of beans, singularly or collectively.
I wish people would leave you to post what you like, as they are your opinions.
If they didn’t engage you, few would.

Comment #52Problem with these new multiples, I’m guessing the whole of the NUFC team will be banned before long if blocking names is the main game! Colo, Shelvey, Saivet, Sissoko and…….?…… so far

Comment #73You know, if all the multiple accounts did nothing more than predict differing match results or offer alternate views on various players, nobody would notice. They only become like the proverbial sore thumb when they collectively home in on the same people and gang together to make the same inane observations about others.
Perhaps, Ian,carl, sack llambias, etc you should invent a person with a completely different agenda, it might slip under the radar for a bit longer.

Comment #74We need to reflect on todays and yesterdays events.
Yesterday in my guise as Reverend Tuff I delivered some words from the Good Book to the assembled blog flock about the awaiting sulphur pit.
Todays sermon to those gathered here this evening is to explore, with the aid of the Good Book whether there is any relevance to the beast earlier mentioning the number 23.
I can tell all you sinners that the 23rd verse of Genesis 1 completes the fifth day of creation when God says to the creatures of the earth :-
“Be Fruitful and MULTIPLY”.
The beast has taken what the Lord has said and has created multiples.
Here endeth todays lesson.
Hallelujah. Amen.
