There’s No Way This England Superstar Would Join Newcastle

It’s worth thinking about it, but that’s as far as it goes.

Ig John Terry is allowed to leave Chelsea this summer Newcastle could go for a defender who has shown this season he can still produce the goods for The Blues.

And during Steve McClaren’s press conference today he was asked if he would like to sign Terry – if he does indeed become available this summer.

John Terry – Mr. Chelsea and one terrific defender

Steve managed John Terry when he was the England manager for a short and disastrous 16 months starting in 2007,  so he knows all about the great John Terry.

This is how Steve answered that question:

“That’s their decision. I know JT well and he’s a great player and servant for Chelsea, he’s Mr Chelsea.”

“To leave and not to be given a contract must be a big wrench for him wherever he goes to. How far is the summer? A long time, a lot can happen between now and then.”

“So we’re not thinking about that. We’re just thinking about John Terry playing for Chelsea and how we can get past him.”

That’s a good answer from Steve.

John Terry has been one of the best players for England during his long and distinguished career and he was the England captain and captain of his home town club for many years during their tremendous successes.

Newcastle did want to sign Terry when Sir Bobby Robson was at the club, but that was just before Roman Abramovich bought the club in July, 2003.

John will have lots and lots of offers in the summer if he is a free agent – and there’s just no way he would want to join Newcastle.

There will be more attractive offers elsewhere from England and other countries too.

John still has a couple of years left of top class football if that’s what he wants to do, because he’s taken care of himself over the years.

Comments welcome.

Never expected Frank Lampard to go to ManC, so I wouldn’t bet against anything.

    Essex,
I suppose if we’re talking in terms of since man stood up and walked on two legs then 43 years is pretty recent.
    Beermonkey,
    Wholeheartedly agree on that one.

Noticed somebody was saying that our Intertoto Plaqu– uh, “cup” counts as a European Trophy.

A “cup” (seriously, it’s a wall mounted plaque) that we “won” by drawing one game, winning the replay and lifting it before a 2-0 loss.

Look at Scott Parker with the “cup”. I feel almost as embarrassed for him as I did for Nolan and Colo trying to lift the 2 foot tall Teressa Herrera trophy.

i dont think he would come to us.
i dont think he would take a huge huge pay cut to join us.
and i’m not 100% sure he can do the job for much longer.

i’d rather go for someone else tbh ! couple of freebies i listed last night might be called for imo.

Terry was a good defender in his time, but he is not what we need, old and slow, I’m afraid, he has gone from speed boat to tug boat.

And he would NEVER consider us as his destination, for which I am very grateful.

    @13 catchy

we need him for the rest of this season.

but i completely agree with all your saying he’s always been a big hit or miss and can anyone tell me where he was a decent cb through a full season ? i carnt tbh but unless we get quality replacements in we are stuck with saylor and colo as lescalles/dummett is behind both of those 2 imo.

I don’t mind Coloccini staying, just so long as he drops to backup, and the captaincy is passed on.

There’s every chance of Terry joining us. He’s said that if he leaves Chelsea he wants to stay in the game but will not sign for a Prem club!

As an aside, it’s good to see that Jail’s made a friend in the form of Rhys Boyd!

magscar (from earlier) and anyone else (who is left)

I suspect the team selected by Shteve for the match tomorrow will closely resemble that against WBA, but I like to offer an alternative just to discuss the options.

Whilst I don’t agree with what Shteve said in his press conference, there is no advantage to be gained by trying to defend and an ability to exploit their slow defence is a better option. I am reminded of Aarons early goal against Man C sometime ago, this would be an excellent confidence boost if NUFC could do something similar tomorrow.

On the very rare outside chance he did, he’d be by far our best defender at least for one season.
