There’s No Way This England Superstar Would Join Newcastle

4:31 pm, Friday, February 12th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 89 Comments

It’s worth thinking about it, but that’s as far as it goes.

Ig John Terry is allowed to leave Chelsea this summer Newcastle could go for a defender who has shown this season he can still produce the goods for The Blues.

And during Steve McClaren’s press conference today he was asked if he would like to sign Terry – if he does indeed become available this summer.

a25a8bb75693b8023e9a0857dd4197cc

John Terry – Mr. Chelsea and one terrific defender

Steve managed John Terry when he was the England manager for a short and disastrous 16 months starting in 2007,  so he knows all about the great John Terry.

This is how Steve answered that question:

“That’s their decision. I know JT well and he’s a great player and servant for Chelsea, he’s Mr Chelsea.”

“To leave and not to be given a contract must be a big wrench for him wherever he goes to. How far is the summer? A long time, a lot can happen between now and then.”

“So we’re not thinking about that. We’re just thinking about John Terry playing for Chelsea and how we can get past him.”

That’s a good answer from Steve.

John Terry has been one of the best players for England during his long and distinguished career and he was the England captain and captain of his home town club for many years during their tremendous successes.

Newcastle did want to sign Terry when Sir Bobby Robson was at the club, but that was just before Roman Abramovich bought the club in July, 2003.

John will have lots and lots of offers in the summer if he is a free agent – and there’s just no way he would want to join Newcastle.

There will be more attractive offers elsewhere from England and other countries too.

John still has a couple of years left of top class football if that’s what he wants to do, because he’s taken care of himself over the years.

Comments welcome.

Blimey I’m getting out of breath trying to keep up here!

‘The FA cup, surely you can remember Bobby Stokoe lolloping across the pitch after they’d beaten Leeds.

We weren’t so antagonistic to our local cousins in those days.’

Never expected Frank Lampard to go to ManC, so I wouldn’t bet against anything.

    jail

    its nuts to keep taylor
mbemba could go to acon then were down to dummet colo taylor
can you rely on him not to be injured

  • 4 Jail for Ashley // Feb 12, 2016 at 4:50 PM

    Essex,
I suppose if we’re talking in terms of since man stood up and walked on two legs then 43 years is pretty recent.
    Beermonkey,
    Wholeheartedly agree on that one.

  • 5 Jail for Ashley // Feb 12, 2016 at 4:51 PM

Terry has said he wouldn’t go to another PL club but he also said he’d never sh@g a team mates girlfriend 😮

  • 6 Thump // Feb 12, 2016 at 4:53 PM

Noticed somebody was saying that our Intertoto Plaqu– uh, “cup” counts as a European Trophy.

A “cup” (seriously, it’s a wall mounted plaque) that we “won” by drawing one game, winning the replay and lifting it before a 2-0 loss.

Look at Scott Parker with the “cup”. I feel almost as embarrassed for him as I did for Nolan and Colo trying to lift the 2 foot tall Teressa Herrera trophy.

  • 7 Take A Chancel On Me // Feb 12, 2016 at 4:57 PM

    Evening all

Terry would never come here, also would want too much money

  • 8 sing in the corner // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:00 PM

Very nearly past it. Not interested in him!

  • 9 hibbitt // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:05 PM

china or usa for mr terry for big big money

  • 10 croftus5678 // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:05 PM

i dont think he would come to us.
i dont think he would take a huge huge pay cut to join us.
and i’m not 100% sure he can do the job for much longer.

i’d rather go for someone else tbh ! couple of freebies i listed last night might be called for imo.

  • 11 beermonkey // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:07 PM

we have a problem when we come up against pace and we are going to solve that by bringing john terry
thankfully he will goto the states

  • 12 catchy in norway // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:07 PM

Top 3 on the list keep , Taylor and the other 2 , we do not need , Taylor is only fit to get a new contract, good defender when fit, but had his chance

  • 13 firebug666 // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:09 PM

Terry was a good defender in his time, but he is not what we need, old and slow, I’m afraid, he has gone from speed boat to tug boat.

And he would NEVER consider us as his destination, for which I am very grateful.

  • 14 hibbitt // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:10 PM

just when you think its all over another WUM pops up !!!!

  • 15 Take A Chancel On Me // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:13 PM

    firebig

I hope we get some new defenders in the summer

  • 16 croftus5678 // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:14 PM

    @13 catchy

we need him for the rest of this season.

but i completely agree with all your saying he’s always been a big hit or miss and can anyone tell me where he was a decent cb through a full season ? i carnt tbh but unless we get quality replacements in we are stuck with saylor and colo as lescalles/dummett is behind both of those 2 imo.

  • 17 firebug666 // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:17 PM

    Chancel

I hope we do too mate. That is the section of the team that needs addressing most mate.

  • 18 Take A Chancel On Me // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:19 PM

    Firebug

I agree, however I feel Colo needs replacing but with him having signed a new contract at start of season I think they’ll keep playing him next season

  • 19 firebug666 // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:22 PM

    Chancel

I don’t mind Coloccini staying, just so long as he drops to backup, and the captaincy is passed on.

  • 20 Take A Chancel On Me // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:25 PM

    Firebug

I wouldn’t mind that so much but I think Macca sees him as the main defender

  • 21 firebug666 // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:28 PM

It’s a worry mate, but I think Macca will have to make the tough decision and bring in his replacement.

  • 22 lesh // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:40 PM

There’s every chance of Terry joining us. He’s said that if he leaves Chelsea he wants to stay in the game but will not sign for a Prem club!

As an aside, it’s good to see that Jail’s made a friend in the form of Rhys Boyd!

  • 23 JamesToon // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:55 PM

Would rather have Cahill than terry

  • 24 Lindisfarne // Feb 12, 2016 at 5:58 PM

magscar (from earlier) and anyone else (who is left)

I suspect the team selected by Shteve for the match tomorrow will closely resemble that against WBA, but I like to offer an alternative just to discuss the options.

Whilst I don’t agree with what Shteve said in his press conference, there is no advantage to be gained by trying to defend and an ability to exploit their slow defence is a better option. I am reminded of Aarons early goal against Man C sometime ago, this would be an excellent confidence boost if NUFC could do something similar tomorrow.

Sign John Terry in the summer? Complete madness. He’s past it. We might as well sign Sol Campbell again too. Harrumph.

Aren’t we in line to win the “Almost Finished Fifteenth Again When We Were Promised Top Eight” trophy as well? Beautiful…..

  • 30 GeordieTwo // Feb 12, 2016 at 6:32 PM

  • 31 check the toastie // Feb 12, 2016 at 6:40 PM

John Terry is now shite and a bad egg, held together by the rest of his team and good management, his career is over, like Chelsea have been decent this year, err no, they are shite at the back.

has too much say at Chelski and is only a legend to there fans as 99% of them are complete assh0les.

proper proper assh0les at that, scum supporters scum bloke.

most detestable club and fans and captain/legend in football.

  • 34 toon kk // Feb 12, 2016 at 6:44 PM

The chances of Terry joining us are almost Zero.
On the very rare outside chance he did, he’d be by far our best defender at least for one season.

  • 35 Belfast // Feb 12, 2016 at 6:44 PM

I’ve checked and it’s not Jib like. He would need to be a pretty fast mover to make two comments from two different accounts in the same minute.

  • 36 Take A Chancel On Me // Feb 12, 2016 at 6:44 PM

I think if we attack we can win 2-0

  • 37 GeordieTwo // Feb 12, 2016 at 6:45 PM

Once Colo is in a wheelchair will we drop him from the first team? Probably not. Even at 4 foot 3 in his wheelie he should still be able to get around the pitch nicely according to Steve……

  • 38 GeordieTwo // Feb 12, 2016 at 6:47 PM

And Saylor on one leg with crutches is probably still wor third best defender at the club according to Steve…..

  • 39 Belfast // Feb 12, 2016 at 6:54 PM

Would still be a better looking face than the boat race on Rob Vollans.

    Hippo heed lol

  • 41 21st Century Schizoid Man // Feb 12, 2016 at 6:58 PM

Another year with Colo as captain and 1st pick CB will not help our GD much. Fine as a backup though for his last season with us, hopefully

  • 42 Ibizatoon // Feb 12, 2016 at 7:01 PM

I think this thread is missing a poll.

Even in his prime, I couldn’t stand Terry.

Don’t think about it, don’t talk about it, just no.

  • 43 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Feb 12, 2016 at 7:01 PM

hibbitt…I think Terry is definitely USA bound

  • 44 croftus5678 // Feb 12, 2016 at 7:04 PM

we missed the boat on that signing 😉

I am with my make up on lol

  • 46 GeordieTwo // Feb 12, 2016 at 7:08 PM

We need a young, tall powerful central defender to complement Mbemba. Ashley doesn’t sign players for how good they once were anyway. Not an option.

  • 47 Ibizatoon // Feb 12, 2016 at 7:08 PM

Belfast…Well it is Friday, I imagine the make up bag is nearby and you’ve already picked out your favourite heels for your night out?

No doubt Cindy Lauper playing in the background.

  • 58 toon kk // Feb 12, 2016 at 7:47 PM

Our defence is doing just fine, it wouldn’t be an exciting game if we kept a clean sheet.
After all MA can’t find anything the matter with it.
We’ll be working on potential mid field signings, we’re so lucky to have Colo on board. !!!!!!!

  • 59 21st Century Schizoid Man // Feb 12, 2016 at 7:48 PM

Big club or not a big club.. ? That should not be the question nowadays.

It all depends on how rich your Sugar daddy is and how much sugar daddy is willing to spend ..

With TV money the middle of the road clubs are catching up and beating the filthy rich clubs, to such an extent that the points are not so easy to come by for the so called top five of the last decade…look at the prem now ..its concertinaed at the top ..no one running away on easy street.. cept Leicester ! gan on Leicester !

  • 62 Ibizatoon // Feb 12, 2016 at 7:55 PM

21st…Point one, agreed (surprise, you were agreeing with me).

Second point, wrong song. “Ladies night”, not “December 1963 (Oh what a night). I can however see where the mistake came from.

  • 63 Jail for Ashley // Feb 12, 2016 at 7:58 PM

It isn’t even worth thinking about, in fact it is as 10000 times unlikely as KK returning under Mike Ashley.

  • 64 Online Guy // Feb 12, 2016 at 8:03 PM

I said yesterday that McClaren will try and build an England B team here ..we got a few that can still do well with England now ..I can see Sturridge coming summer time ..any more ?

I mentioned Terry and Cahill yesterday…We got Taylor, Shelvey, and Townsend .Who’s next ?

  • 65 Lindisfarne // Feb 12, 2016 at 8:03 PM

IMO The best way to beat Chelsea tomorrow is to NOT play for time, do not stop for injuries, do not play for free kicks and do not delay restarting the game. Wear them out, keep their legs running and do not give them the benefit of additional minutes.

    Azpilicueta 28
    Terry 35
    Cahill 30
    Ivanovic 31
    Matic 27
    Mikel 28
    Hazard 25
    Fàbregas 28
    Willian 27
    Costa 27

    Average age of Chelsea 28.6
    Average age of NUFC 25.8

And just don’t let Hazard have the ball!

  • 66 Moonraker15 // Feb 12, 2016 at 8:05 PM

John Terry and his family are no good, what with his dad dealing drugs, his mum shoplifting and Johnno himself charging punters for a tour of Chelsea’s facilities, I think we can do without don’t you? And by the way he’s finished and will be going to some backwater Nirvana like MLS or China.
