These Were Newcastle’s Best Three Players Yesterday

We are only now getting over the shock of what happened yesterday when the game at Chelsea was over after only 17 minutes when the Blues were 3-0 up.

We also have to realize that it wasn’t too surprising the Chelsea team laid off a bit in the second half and Newcastle did come back into the game a little – but of course by then we had lost the game.

But in particular it was good to see our two new Englishmen Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend having good games in the final 45 minutes and at least learning from the Everton debacle – which cannot be said for all the Newcastle players.

Andros also scored a terrific goal after 90 minutes after being given the ball by Jack Colback – and he made it look so easy – so maybe we will get more on the goalscoring side from the England International in future games – hope so.

Andros Townsend in action yesterday – scored a great late goal

Townsend was our Man of the Match with Rob Elliot again playing well in goal and making some good saves and Rob just edges out Jonjo Shelvey in the voting with the England International play-maker putting  in a  good stint in the second half.

But this was another unacceptable performance on the road by Newcastle and if we continue this form and lack of fight away from St. James’ Park – we will most likely be relegated in May.

It’s simply not good enough and our players know it.

But it was good to see at least three of them sticking in and fighting for the cause, even though all was lost by then.

Other players in the Newcastle side should take the example set by Andros, Rob and Jonjo and play their hearts out in future games away from home.

We only have six of them left and six games at home.

Here are the results of the poll.

if it was not for our bloody cb’s we would have a great team imo !

mbemba is my exeption but the rest !!!! colo/saylor/lescalles/satka/good are all a let down.

the worst defence in the prem yet again ! (dunno if villa are worse off after today but you get my point)

i only very slighty put a fraction of the blame on the rest of the team as mitro does good def work when he should not imo/sissoko should but his heading and marking is p*&s poor for someone who used to be very highly praised for his defensive work and wijnaldum who runs a lot without having much effect on the defensive side of things imo.

a very basic skill is closing down and not giving them space or time on the ball ! we do it in home games but not away so pull your fingers out and go back to the library and book out the idiots guide to defending.

Who was the best player V Chelsea what a bloody stupid question – they were all rubbish. They all had away day gutlessness which has been repeated over and over again at away games and now that we are out of ALL cup competitions, Newcastle’s Manager and his players are not exactly worked off their feet. They now have even more time to ‘Prepare’ (to fail) for their matches than clubs like WBrom who are still in the FA cup and have injury problems to boot. It is obvious the players don’t respect McLaren and as such we need a new no nonsense leader who will get the players attitudes right and ready to perform for every match home and away. McLaren out !

I thought Mitro gave a good account of himself, how much more could he give for the cause, aside from sending John Terry packing and putting himself around is an isolated position.

Shelvey’s class was there for all to see… a few errors, but nothing drastic that cannot be tweaked. Townsend predictably gets bonus points for everything he did in the 90 minutes, for what he achieved in the 10 seconds that led to his goal.

I am waiting to see what happens at Stoke. I didn’t think for a moment we had a chance against Chelsea… if the side is going to have an off-day, it may as well be in one of the games where the side is most statistically likely to lose anyway.

Just to add, if we beat Stoke, the win record since Shelvey has signed would return to 50%.

The True Geordie absolutely nailed it this week. mclaren should be culpable for not ensuring the basics were in place against chelsea; the setup was so unprepared- we didn’t look like we wanted to go forward, but we didn’t park the bus either… it was a complete mess.

I like confidence and positivity, but mclaren’s naiivety and downright ignorance to how desperate the situation is, is alarming. He’s still grinning and saying we’ll be up for it next week. This was how he was after the palace game, the watford game, the everton game. You can’t just keep pretending things will be ok…

our away form alone should be the reason he is dismissed.

Monk was shafted at Swansea simply because one of the higher up couldn’t keep it in his pants.

He’s a very good coach who was left in an impossible position

I want to see our goalkeeper shouting instructions and calling players out who’ve been responsible for him having to pick the ball out of the net. I think Shearer was talking about a lack of character. We need leaders. You want that from your goalkeeper, CB and captain at the very least.

Fraser Foster seems to be doing well – tall keeper who commands his space and is a physical presence that adds extra clout to the defence.
Dos Carr not recommend that we keep him – no didn’t think so he was sunning it in France.
    Another class decision from NUFC.

To be fair to the club on Forster, it was him or Krul and he had a nightmare against Leeds one game, I think that sealed his fate.

McLaren is talking drivel ( previous article ) and that’s a sure sign he’s lost the plot.
Training camp ? Why don’t they go and play on the beach at Druridge Bay?
Team building ? How long have you got ?
Fitness ? Ha! What on earth have the players and coaches been doing since last July – dining out at Greggs ?

and where is Ashley in all this ?
If Man Ure have been courting Mourinhio on the quiet who has he ( Ashley ) been chatting up ? The silence is deafening !

    i’ll second that.

we always seem to do good with keepers (prob cos they get so much practice with our cb’s)

and we do have 2 more young keepers who imo will become great great keepers also in woodman and woolston which one of the 2 will prob move on as they are not first choice !
