Newcastle United have been scouting Anderlecht’s Dennis Praet, who is an attacking midfielder for the Belgium club and he could be one of Newcastle´s targets in the summer.
And if we do go after him it should be an advantage that two of his former team-mates at the Belgium club – Chancel Mbemba and Aleksandar Mitrovic – are already on Tyneside.
Dennis Praet – hot property in Europe
67 year-old Johan Boskamp is a former Netherlands International who went onto manage 16 clubs including Anderlecht and Stoke City and he has warned the 21 year-old off joining Newcastle.
This is what Boskamp told Belgian web-site HBVL:
“Praet is that consistent now, although I think he will want to get away from Anderlecht,” “It’s important for him to now find the right club to join.”
“If he chooses the Premier League, he must sign for a team with great footballing ability, and not for teams like Sunderland or Newcastle – because he goes down with that.”
“The best example is Charly Musonda.” “He is involved in some nice football at Real Betis.”
19 year-old Anderlecht midfielder and Zambian international, Musonda joined Chelsea from Anderlecht in the summer of 2012 along with his older brothers Tika and Lamisha and he has been playing on loan recently.
But he doesn’t seem to be a similar case as Praet – since the lad turns 22 in May and presumably would be immediately fighting for a first team place at Newcastle, if we did sign him.
Dennis Praet is said to be one of the best young players in Europe with Liverpool and AC Milan interested in him.
But if Newcastle are ever going to challenge for a top six position in the Premier League anytime soon then it’s these types of top young players we have to go after.
Dennis has played for all the Belgium Youth sides through U21 and has two full capos.
He made his debut for Anderlecht in September 2011 in the Belgian Cup he started in the game against Lommel United and since then he has played 161 games for the Belgium club with 23 goals.
Praet made his senior international debut coming on as a substitute for Christian Benteke in the 3-1 friendly win over Iceland in Brussels last November.
He would be a good target for us in the summer, always assuming we can get out of the mess we are in right now and still a Premier League club.
And at some point in the summer we need to concentrate on signing some top defenders and a proven Premier League striker.
