On loan Newcastle midfielder Remy Cabella will sign full time for Marseille in the summer when his loan deal completes and as we understand it once he had played 12 first team games for Marseille the permanent transfer automatically kicks in.
In his loan contract there was a clause/option to buy for €8M (£6.3M), so it looks like we will get most of our money back that we paid out to Montpellier about twenty months ago for the French International – most estimates are that we paid around £7M for him.
Remy Cabella in Marseille colors
Cabella is one of three Frenchmen brought in by Chief Scout Graham Carr who have failed rather miserably at Newcastle since being signed in the last eighteen months – with Florian Thauvin and Emmanuel Riviere being the other two.
Those three players cost Newcastle around £28M – and they were not good buys for us.
The Frenchman has said this about the deal in Foot Mercato:
“Yes, there is an option to buy; this was expected from the start.“
“Under normal circumstances, I will be at Marseille next season as I am happy and I have adapted well. I get along well with the club, the staff, and all the players. There is a great atmosphere.“
“Now I want to help the club to get back to the highest level.”
Remy has done quite well at Marseille after a rather slow start and he has 5 goals in 27 appearances for the south of France club and obviously the French League is much more to his liking than the more physical Premier League.
The 25-year-old played 34 times for Newcastle last season with one goal, but he was shipped out on loan last summer as Newcastle seemed to have give up on him and that was a surprise to us.
Then Graham Carr brought in a similar player with similar physique – Florian Thauvin.
Anyway, it seems that Newcastle have already one deal completed for this summer and the deal will become official on July 1st.
