Newcastle Interested In International Left-Back

Newcastle were interested in signing Lorient left-back Raphael Guerreiro last summer, and it looks like we are still keeping tabs on the Portuguese International with the club presumably going to strengthen the defense this summer – which is long overdue.

The Northern Echo has a little piece in today saying we are following Raphael’s progress and he could be a very decent signing for us in the summer.

Raphael Guerreiro – Lorient left back

Raphael was born in France to a Portuguese father and a French mother, and he has elected to play his International football for Portugal – even though he doesn’t speak much Portuguese.

He made his International debut in November of 2014 in the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier against Armenia.

And he’s the type of player Newcastle like to sign – somebody who is young and can still improve as he gets games in the Premier League.

In his three seasons at Lorient he has made 100 appearances with 10 goals and 8 assists and is known for his attacking prowess down the wing.

As well as left-back Raphael can also play as a wing back or on the left wing.

He signed a four year deal when he signed for Lorient from Caen in 2013, so in the summer that contract will have only one year left to run.

It seems Newcastle will be signing a left back this summer with the other top player we have been linked with being 21 year-old Jetro Willems of PSV.

Jetro is now back playing for PSV after being out most of the season with a serious knee injury and he is best friends with a certain Gini Wijnaldum.

I see NUFC is looking at Huddersfield’s England 17s defender Jordan Williams. I’ve seen him play for their under 18s many times. Reminds me of a young Des Walker. He is only 16, a year younger than their first year scholars. Can’t see him wanting to leave Huddersfield when he’s had chances to go to Man City and knocked them back.
