Newcastle Cancel Tomorrow’s Press Conference

12:39 pm, Wednesday, March 9th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 65 Comments

News filtering through that Newcastle are almost certain to cancel the press conference that is scheduled for tomorrow for the game against Leicester City on Monday night.

Newcastle continue to dither around and Steve McClaren turned up for the second day running to take the training today, but this move by Newcastle almost certainly means his time is up on Tyneside.

It’s just that nobody from the club has told him that yet.

Steve McClaren – arriving for training today in his Audi

Newcastle are talking to Rafa Benitez’ representatives, but things are going slowly and the Chronicle is reporting that Rafa may not wait around too much longer if Newcastle cannot move more quickly to get a 10 game deal struck for him to take over through the end of the season.

Don’t forget Rafa has worked for the big boys like Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid and is not used to dealing with incompetent people who don’t know what they want – and often don’t even know what they are doing.

That could be a disadvantage to Newcastle.

This is now the fourth day since we were humiliated by Bournemouth – how long do this lot need to get things done – or even to make a decision?

It’s appalling.

Comments welcome.

“If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him….maybe you can hire Rafa Benitez.”

Now he would be “The A Team”

  • 2 Mackems are from MORDOR! // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:46 PM

Honestly I’d love Benitez. Both sides testing the water before comitting. Ideal situ.

If that fails I’d settle for Ron Atkinson right now!!!

  • 3 SPRINGY // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:46 PM

hope this means theres something is happening on the manager front, cause this is taking to long…..spose if they get the right manager in, then the time is worth it……patience was never my strong point!lol

  • 4 SPRINGY // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:48 PM

can see simpson and black leaving with macca if anyone came in on short term contract

  • 5 hibbitt // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:50 PM

club must have took his car off him that’s not the audi he’s had for the last 3 months

Next thing he’ll be airbrushed out of all the team photos.

  • 7 Tsunki // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:52 PM

Nothing to see here people, it’s only a major catastrophe with massive damage, move along now…

  • 8 PAUL21 // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:53 PM

I’ve just heard a rumour that the meeting the other day was to discuss giving SM 2 more games, which suggests that they cannot get anyone to stand in as an interim. The way things are, the leicester game is a write off so it will all hinge on the derby. Which would be a win win for the ‘Board’, if they lose he’ll be gone and if they do manage to get a win they’ll come out and say they were right to sick by him.

  • 9 Tsunki // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:53 PM

Rafas head on Steves thin body 🙂

  • 10 Ron Knee // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:54 PM

    What’s wrong with this picture?

  • 11 Rotonda heights // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:54 PM

In a way I wouldn’t like a class act and genuine nice bloke like rafa to sully his good name by getting involved with a creep like ash and co.

I thought Ash was this ruthless business magnate who didn’t tolerate failure, but he seems to have turned SJP in to a permanent rest home for mediocrity. Never has there been less of a fit and proper owner.

If I had lost as much money and been as indecisive as Carr and Charnley and seen at first hand the damage caused by his controversial and unworkable model after 8.5 years, heads would roll. But no, it’s the status quo, Ash off sunning himself while Rome burns.

Carr and Charnley have got no chance of pulling this off, much as I would love to be proved wrong, but even then I would want so many clauses resisting any interruption from carr etc.

That Steve Black motivational speaker what a job he has done. Would have been better off with a tape recording of Winston Churchill

Rafa in pay him whatever he wants

  • 13 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:56 PM

I think all that they are deciding now is who is going to drive Macca up to Keilder with the pretnece of “a nice day out”, then tie him to the same tree as John Carver and LEAVE HIM THERE.

  • 14 Rotonda heights // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:56 PM

don’t see what simpson and black bring at all.
    black didn’t exactly help QPR.

  • 15 Ron Knee // Mar 9, 2016 at 12:58 PM

Rafa may be growing a tuft at this very minute!

When do we want it? IT DOESN’T MATTER!

  • 17 Mag52 // Mar 9, 2016 at 1:00 PM

Absolutely no retraction on anything I’ve ever said about AP.
Regarding Benitez, the experience, based on his record as owner to date, overwhelmingly suggests that Ashley wouldn’t consider a manager likely to require far more input in decisions that recent managers have been allowed. In addition to which, Rafa would have to be desperate beyond measure to accept a job under the present management.
Having said that, if we get him, and it would make my day should it happen, I will be happy to offer you my heartfelt apologies for ever doubting your superior football knowledge (on the subject of Rafa). Fair enough ?

  • 18 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Mar 9, 2016 at 1:00 PM

Blacks Job as motovator must be nigh on impossible, though. How on earth do you motivate people under this kind of dithering management? Thats probably why he also didn’t do much at qpr, because their management was also all over the place.

  • 19 stuart no9 // Mar 9, 2016 at 1:04 PM

Dignity v money ? Money wins all the time . The fact that Macca knows that the club are seeking his replacement and STILL turns up to work for this wretched lot is nothing short of discussing really .
No one can tell me Macca needs the money . He’s been sacked from every club he’s been to and now he can add another one to his cv
Why dosnt he just walk, ?if he feels he’s done a good job , then fair enough he can walk with his head held high knowing he resigned and not sacked AGAIN . For the sake of a few quid he could put everyone out of their misery , including himself . I wish just got once that some people could show a little dignity and show some pride in the fact that he done a good job of that is what he believes or show that money counts over everything including pride .he would much more respected for it and in the eyes of the watching millions gain a little More respect . That would be the correct thing to do.

    Rotonda heights // Mar 9, 2016 at 11:08 AM

    Mag 52

I know you won’t hold your hands up and graciously admit defeat on AP, but if by some miracle benitez is appointed I want a full apology.

Before asking mag52 to make a full apology you need to make a full apology yourself.

Through the pardue era guys like myself were stating the biggest accusation should lie on ashley and the website should have been but no you insisted that cashley himself appoint a decent manager.

    Wheres that apology?

It works both ways so unless you are willing to make an apology and forgot about the way pardue is doing at palace there is no reason why mag 52 should give you an apology if rafa were to be appointed.

What if rafa isn’t appointed will you be apologetic or are you still going to rabbit on about how pardue is doing at palace?

  • 22 Tsunki // Mar 9, 2016 at 1:09 PM

  • 25 PAUL21 // Mar 9, 2016 at 1:16 PM

Stuart no9 – a mate that works at the club. It is what they’ve heard, but like i say still rumours and hearsay. But the fact that SM is still there taking training suggest that there might be something to it.

  • 29 toon kk // Mar 9, 2016 at 1:28 PM

It’s just a struggle to get Benitez to agree to sign, not that he doesn’t want the job, its getting him or anyone else to agree to the MA terms and conditions (regime).

  • 36 NUFCPaul // Mar 9, 2016 at 1:46 PM

Have to laugh at the news on this website sometimes. One headline says ‘Rafa wary of Newcastle job’, and the very next story says ‘Rafa very interested in Newcastle job’. Talk about Ed having all bases covered. At some point down the line he’ll be able to say ‘I told you so!’ no matter which way it goes. Sigh.

  • 37 Dragon64 // Mar 9, 2016 at 1:50 PM

S.M to get 8 yr deal would’t be surprised with this lot

  • 38 Graeme // Mar 9, 2016 at 1:54 PM

The problem would seem to be the unfair equation involved in the negotiations. On one side you have Rafa, who actually knows what he’s doing – on the other side you have Charnley, Carr and Moncur who haven’t got a clue.
I’m surprised Rafa’s agent will even speak to them when its Ashley who makes all the decisions in the first place!!!

  • 39 Rotonda heights // Mar 9, 2016 at 2:08 PM

Totally non sensical statement. Plus with respect, what the —- has that to do with you what Mag 52 and I say too each other about AP.

If you look back through you’ll see my biggest criticism has always been the low ability appointments Ash has always made.

I can not stand Ashley for a lot of things and would love him to leave, but nobody with 300M+ is going to buy the club and nobody will boycott going to matches so we are stuck with him.

Why should I apologise for identifying a poor manager. AP has proved to be poor not just here but virtually everywhere else too and the people gloating about his honeymoon period at CP wouldn’t have it.

  • 40 toon kk // Mar 9, 2016 at 2:09 PM

If on the off chance Benitez does agree to be MA next Yes man don’t expect miracles, we’ve still got a poor squad of players, yes we have some quality but that doesn’t mean we have a good team.
    We’ll still be relegated.

  • 41 Rotonda heights // Mar 9, 2016 at 2:11 PM

it should be ash having a meeting with SM, Charnley and carr, saying, you’re all sacked

  • 42 Rotonda heights // Mar 9, 2016 at 2:12 PM

rafa wouldn’t be anyone’s yes an . I hope he tells them he wants this that and the other or he walks.

  • 43 sparky55 // Mar 9, 2016 at 2:16 PM

Leicester won’t be the massacre everyone thinks…we’ll go down there and park the bus so Vardy and Go can’t run in behind the defence…we just have to make sure we don’t get sucked up the pitch and get caught out.

4-5-1 with only 10 yards between the rearguard and the midfield and the rearguard on the 18 yard box!

Don’t think I’ll bother going to the match because it’ll be awful to watch but that’s what’s gonna happen

  • 44 Goldmbemba // Mar 9, 2016 at 2:22 PM

the last time i saw newcastle was when i lived in leicester funnily enough.

we were playing in our banana and custard away kit and the most exciting moment was seeing Jonas warming up on the touchline.

It was a 0-0 snore draw. I’d take that this weekend in a heartbeat!

  • 45 hibbitt // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:02 PM

is this the lull before the storm or are we getting in the mood for Rafa and everyone having a siesta

  • 46 SPRINGY // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:03 PM

  • 48 Oldgit1 // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:04 PM

Don’t want to pop anyone’s balloon but who are we believing that Rafa maybe our next manager. As far as I can see it’s all media speculation nothing else. Along with all the other possibilities ie. Moyes, Rodgers etc. I have a horrible feeling that McLaren will be given more time.

    Sorry all

  • 49 SPRINGY // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:05 PM

  • 50 chiefone30 // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:10 PM

He’s as good as gone, tomorrows routine press conference cancelled and he’s meeting with penfold this afternoon.

If he was going to keep his job why would they cancel his press conference.

After his meeting we should expect to hear that McClaren has been sacked by NUFC

  • 51 SPRINGY // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:11 PM

  • 53 SPRINGY // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:13 PM

  • 54 davis_toons // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:13 PM

Even if it is half a season with Rafa the team will learn alot on passing eeee ball…i wouldn’t mind that.

Of course his reputation is at stake…he does mind alot..

  • 55 Dragon64 // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:15 PM

unable to decide on what biscuits to have with there tea loll

  • 56 chiefone30 // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:21 PM

I agree, but it would be quite idiotic and pointless even for them to cancel the scheduled press conference and then not fire him before Mondays game. Can’t see the reasoning behind that. They can’t hide him from the media forever. He’s going to have face the media at some point. What’s the point of hiding him if they’re going to back him. It’ll just make things worse from a PR stand up and delve the club into more chaos. Even for them that would be astronomically short sighted

  • 57 SPRINGY // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:21 PM

you can just imagine charnley in the meeting now… looking like arkwright from open all hours… nervously stuttering tryin to build up the courage to say…..your fired…..please dont hurt me!!

  • 58 Oldgit1 // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:22 PM

Now it’s reported that charnly is using a company as an intermediate to deal with finding a manager. Hope it’s not the same company that deals with the players we purchase. Strewth can’t the board make a decision for themselves.. Toasers the lot of them.

  • 59 JackButler // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:25 PM

What are the odds we will see Curbishley rock up at SJP?

Before anyone dismisses that, just remember who is running us

  • 60 chiefone30 // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:26 PM

And why does McClaren even bother showing up for training? 2 days in a row. I would have called in sick today or called penfold and ask what they hell is going on.
Him showing up for training just shows he has no pride or is just plain stupid and clueless

  • 61 hibbitt // Mar 9, 2016 at 3:27 PM

    From a very reliable source….
just found out what the problem is with McClaren leaving Charnley will not sign the compensation deal off to sack McClaren as the stationary package he was issued with when he joined is now 2 paper clips short a club spokesperson said a full investigation will now take place to find these valuable items we shall not rest till we get to the bottom of this matter all other matters have been put to one side so we can give this matter are full attention

On the vexed subject of biscuits for tea I hate to spoil the fun but there has been a shortage of Custard Creams every since Carr’s factory (McVities) in Carlisle was flooded out before christmas.

However I am sure that Charnley will have sourced a cheaper less appealing ( typical of the Board ) alternative – “Jammy Dodgers” I suspect – it just seems more appropriate given who we are talking about.
