Here are some selected tweets from Newcastle fans on the possible firing of Steve McClaren this afternoon by Lee Charnley, which would be astonishing if only because of the speed with which it has been carried out.
Question – would this qualify as a knee-jerk reaction?
And the possible arrival of Rafa Benitez as the new Newcastle manager, which would also be astonishing.
Steve McClaren and Rafa Benitez – a contrast
How RAFA!! Sos about calling you a “Fat Spanish Waiter” we didnt mean it. #nufc

I’d be amazed if he isn’t let go during this meeting. Still, it would be very #NUFC to hand him a vote of confidence https://t.co/Izt00xeFiF

I've got visions of McClaren bawling his eyes out round about now.

Comment #1last time in this situation Ashley granted fans wishes by appointing Shearer so wouldn’t be surprised.

Comment #2Think the board is actually doing something right this time. Taking a step back, looking at all of the viable options, and making an informed decision after everything has settled.
Don’t get me wrong, cant wait to see McClaren been ushered away from SJP, but no point in rushing a decision and haphazardly making an appointment.

Comment #3but those tweets don’t give any real evidence that this is going to happen so it’s unlikely in that case.

Comment #11How could anyone classify this as knee-jerk? Ed’s been calling for this for weeks as have many others. I can’t tell if that question is meant ‘tongue-in-cheek’, but if it’s not then it’s quite ridiculous.

Comment #13ok so 16:22 he leaves for the meeting, I don’t imagine there’s much to be said, takes 2 seconds to say your fired.
Where is the meeting taking place is it far away?
Does this mean we’ll possibly finally hear something in the next few hours so I can leave the refresh key alone for more than 5 minutes.

That just proves that he’s not a very serious individual, takes everything lightly. Probably smiles like that when he has meetings/coaching sessions with the players and staff, how can they take him seriously

Comment #20If it was through the vibes given off by Ed and the sheer energy of will he is projecting, Rafa would be rolling up to the club doors right now ha ha
However, arranging this is all in the hands of a man whose last great achievement was scraping through potty training by the skin of his teeth.

Tsunki – Bourbons affected as well but good news all now back in production.
P.S. Mrs, Tsunki – he was telling the truth – Carrs/McVities were out of production due to flood damage.
Don’t know what meds you’re on but you’re in fine form today -haven’t stopped smiling – loved the Boardroom scenarios ! Think this could be their next set of toys – the clue is in the title

Comment #24If it’s true that an intermediary has been engaged to find the new manager, could it be that Ashley has finally lost faith in Charnley.
There is actually no evidence of anything happening at all. SSN are the masters at reporting on a situation when they have no official info. They know absolutely nothing other than McC has been in and taken training. They were even trying to speculate where he might be going when he turned right instead of left at the end of the road.

Mar 9, 2016 at 4:57 PM
Comment #25Countdown:
1. Charnly announces McLaren leaving by mutual consent – thanks him for his contribution, blah, blah, blah
2. Cathro/Simpson will be in charge for the Leicester game ( this is damage limitation before new manager starts )
3. New Manager is …..Rafa Benitez……who will watch the Leicester game from the stand ?
4. New Manager …Rafa Benitez…..with the team on Tuesday to prepare for the derby
It’s called timing.
It may also be a pile of shite but we live in hope.

Big news coming out of Danish football today, and it’s not the type of story you’d find anywhere else. Except maybe Leeds United or Newcastle.
Brondby IF head coach Thomas Frank has ?announced his resignation after learning club chairman Jan Bech Andersen has been criticising his running of the club for several years on a public fan forum, using a pseudonym. Blimey.
