Twitter Abuzz On McClaren Sacking – Possible Benitez Hiring

4:11 pm, Wednesday, March 9th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 98 Comments

Here are some selected tweets from Newcastle fans on the possible firing of Steve McClaren this afternoon by Lee Charnley, which would be astonishing if only because of the speed with which it has been carried out.

Question – would this qualify as a knee-jerk reaction?

And the possible arrival of Rafa Benitez as the new Newcastle manager, which would also be astonishing.

last time in this situation Ashley granted fans wishes by appointing Shearer so wouldn’t be surprised.

  • 2 StuW // Mar 9, 2016 at 4:18 PM

Think the board is actually doing something right this time. Taking a step back, looking at all of the viable options, and making an informed decision after everything has settled.

Don’t get me wrong, cant wait to see McClaren been ushered away from SJP, but no point in rushing a decision and haphazardly making an appointment.

  • 3 jane // Mar 9, 2016 at 4:18 PM

but those tweets don’t give any real evidence that this is going to happen so it’s unlikely in that case.

How could anyone classify this as knee-jerk? Ed’s been calling for this for weeks as have many others. I can’t tell if that question is meant ‘tongue-in-cheek’, but if it’s not then it’s quite ridiculous.

ok so 16:22 he leaves for the meeting, I don’t imagine there’s much to be said, takes 2 seconds to say your fired.

Where is the meeting taking place is it far away?

Does this mean we’ll possibly finally hear something in the next few hours so I can leave the refresh key alone for more than 5 minutes.

If it was through the vibes given off by Ed and the sheer energy of will he is projecting, Rafa would be rolling up to the club doors right now ha ha

However, arranging this is all in the hands of a man whose last great achievement was scraping through potty training by the skin of his teeth.

P.S. Mrs, Tsunki – he was telling the truth – Carrs/McVities were out of production due to flood damage.

  • 24 bettyswallocks // Mar 9, 2016 at 4:56 PM

If it’s true that an intermediary has been engaged to find the new manager, could it be that Ashley has finally lost faith in Charnley.

There is actually no evidence of anything happening at all. SSN are the masters at reporting on a situation when they have no official info. They know absolutely nothing other than McC has been in and taken training. They were even trying to speculate where he might be going when he turned right instead of left at the end of the road.

  • 25 lochinvar // Mar 9, 2016 at 4:57 PM

    Countdown:

    1. Charnly announces McLaren leaving by mutual consent – thanks him for his contribution, blah, blah, blah

    2. Cathro/Simpson will be in charge for the Leicester game ( this is damage limitation before new manager starts )

    3. New Manager is …..Rafa Benitez……who will watch the Leicester game from the stand ?

    4. New Manager …Rafa Benitez…..with the team on Tuesday to prepare for the derby

    It’s called timing.
It may also be a pile of shite but we live in hope.

Maybe room for Gerrard to take his first coaching role next season – ex Liverpool pals and heading back to the UK from NFL ? He wouldn’t take any prisoners, hates loosing and hates southern and Manchester clubs so that would be a good start.

    RH few threads back

The point I was making is that every single sign of his past has shown us that cashley doesn’t appoint decent managers and the one decent manager he did appoint walked out right away.

We all know pardue was only appointed because of the puppet. Had we never seen him appointed you wouldn’t have been following him one bit and if you had the sense to know just how crap the new arrival would be you’d have taken his game with ease and just demand cashley himself leaves.

asking a toon fan to make an apology when (if) rafa gets appointed is like giving ashley an apology for the abuse given in the past.

LR 32 was another blogger well known to heavily critise pardew during his time as manager but he hardly mentions pardues current form at all. He and mag 52 even managed to get into a netrual agreement in the sense that whilst pardew is a crap manager he does no worse than what they expect with most managers.

billy davies and paul jewell were manager at the time of derbies lowest PL point season nothing is ever said about him.

Mick McCarthy had a terrible time at sunderland nothing is mentioned about him

roeder had a terrible time at newcastle nothing is ever mentioned about him

lambsarse left a few years ago why do you never bring up facts about his current state

JFK was a disgrace why do you not bring up news on him?

If we do get Benitez everyone will lose their shit !!

Seen a post earlier today saying Sissoko could be dropped for France’s upcoming friendlies in place of Kante maybe he will now buck his ideas up!!!

Understand a conversation between Steve McClaren & Lee Charnley took place over the phone; McClaren been asked to take training tomorrow.

McClaren is inept and should be sacked. But Charnley is treating him very shabbily. The manager is probably as much in the dark as the rest of us but is now probably pissed off with Penfold’s prevaricating and the clubs silence. He has been left to hang out to dry while all talk about his replacement. It is humiliating for him. He has probably gone home and will make Penfold come to him. McClaren is useless but Penfold is a total, total tool and should go before McClaren. Along with Carr and Moncur.

McLaren is sitting in a beutiful position thanks to the boards incompetance. The constructive dismissal case that is building up for him will cost the club millions. /Why on earth would Benitez come after viewing the way McLaren is been treat and remembering what was done to KK and SH

What a thoroughly repetitive snore-fest. I am honestly exhausted by it all. Only an Ashley run Newcastle could turn a positive switch in management (head coaching) into a torture device.

    Jack
Pretty pathetic conversation over the phone – they reckon it’s the first time they have spoke since the game.

Could it be plan X by the board to sicken McClown off so he resigns and the TOON don’t have to pay him compensation.

Surely McClaren is going through the motions of training to give him some semblance of dignity before the deal is done with his replacement and announcements are made…..?

The players must be thinking they’re on a film set : “One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest” springs to mind

    ” Mad Macs” is another

  • 97 JackButler // Mar 9, 2016 at 6:57 PM

    Charlie

To me it shows two things, firstly, Charnley is nothing but a little gutless slug of a man who doesn’t know what the hell he is doing because he so far out of his depth. And secondly it shows that SM has zero self respect for allowing himself to be treated in such a pathetic way by the club

I bet after all this waiting, nothing will happen and mcclaren the clown will still be in charge.

    What a load of crap.
