Benitez Trying To Clean Up Newcastle Before He Joins

There was news last night that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will be flying in today to try to tie up a deal for former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez – and it seems that even before Rafa comes to the club – if he comes to the club – he is doing us a favor.

Rafa is insisting that Newcastle stop doing these daft transfers where Graham Carr decides who will come into the team during transfer windows – whether or not it has any bearing on fixing weak links in the team.

Great shot of Rafa Benitez

And sometimes – like the case of Florian Thauvin last summer – it´s a complete luxury as he brings in a player he had been after for three years – because he was available – but only because he had such a poor season at Marseilles last term.

That has had disastrous consequences for Newcastle and we wasted £13M of the club´s money and Florian is now back at Marseille on loan.

Rafa is no fool and he´s also managed some great football clubs – like Valencia, Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter-Milan and Real Madrid and it seems to us he is tryin to do us a favor before he even signs for us.

But it could be those running the club cannot even see that – so inept are they.

Rafa wants to have total control of transfers and wants to bring in his own backroom staff if he is to take the job.

If Newcastle don’t give him what he wants, then we don´t deserve a world-class manager like Rafa and we will be relegated this season – it’s as simple as that.

And we will deserve to be relegated because of the incompetence shown by those running the club.

We will thoroughly deserve to go down.

So it´s a very simply choice for Newcastle – agree to Rafa´s demands and we could be on our way to being a big club again – if Rafa can save us from relegation.

Or keep doing the daft things we have been doing in the past that has seen us fight relegation in three of the last four years.

I wish I had the confidence to say we would definitely do the former, but I don´t.

It could be that Ashley is coming in for talks with Benitez´ reps and maybe even to Rafa himself – and give his assurance he is willing to change the way the club is run so Rafa will join us.

We are hoping that´s the case for today – day six in the latest Newcastle soap opera.

If we fail to sign Rafa now – it´s yet another disgrace at Newcastle – sack the lot of them.

Comments welcome.

” … he is doing us a favor before he even sings for us.”

Let’s hope he does more than that!

If somebody carelessly drives through your garden fence and straight into your fish pond, do you blame the nasty car? Carr and Charnley may be the oddball comedy duo bumbling and groping through the murk of PL management but this car crash is down to Ashley. Yes, £80m is a lot, but it’s out of club coffers after all, and it’s like the estranged parent buying useless gifts for his distant kids.

Btw board members can be sacked by their peers, just needs,a majority, and in a tie a casting vote. If they can’t / won’t, the shareholders can call lack of action in the companies’ best interests and restructure / disband / replace said board. In Mike’s case, as sole Shareholder, he can sweep them aside and be sole director. He’s hiding behind a corporate screen. He’s the mechanic who’s responsible for the faulty brakes.

Just listened to a long interview with Simon Bird on BBC Newcastle, basically they know as little as we do, they are expecting a decision today, nothing about Ashley flying in, Mclaren being offered U21’s or Benitez conditions. He says they’re not dithering over his sacking but having him as a back up just in case. That imo is even worse, how can they possibly expect him to lift his self never mind the players after what’s happened. As for all the different rumours on Ashley flying in etc again imo they are all just media speculation.

Mclaren will look an even bigger mug if he continues if Benitez turns us down, he has a very probable case for constructive dismissal so the greedy loser will probably be able to quit and still get his pay off due to another case of gross mismanagement under Mike Ashley.

So basically if Rafa ain’t up for it we stick with Steve for the duration?

It’s probably a strong possibility lol

I guess I’m the only skeptical one here. I often remember this guy without a smile, arguing with the press and fans because of his style of play and nice little negative runs (look them up, I did). And because he’s about to be fired or quit.

I understand that he must come because Steve has used up all his ‘points’ and because we need change desperately. And because he’ll appease the fans. He’s, surprisingly, the safe bet: fans want him.

But I want points. I don’t care about his or anyone’s career. Can he gain them?

On Jonjo. prove yourself before you walk into a captaincy. No, you haven’t yet. Pointing to where the ball must go is a step. Now walk the talk. I brought you in to bring in change. what I see is more of the same, no improvement in results since you’ve played. No, you can’t blame all the others…

I wonder if Rafa is now thinking over his choice of work as it is reported he expected SMC to be sacked yesterday, he may well be looking to the future and thinking is this how the club treats their personnel? It is dragging on too long AGAIN for my liking, and shows Penfold is NOT really in full control as the owner has to fly back today to decide. AGAIN very poor mismanagement by the club. It would not surprise me one bit if the whole thing turned into disaster AGAIN, but there again its something they are VERY good at, small consolation.
