Multiple Photos Of Rafa Benitez At Newcastle Today

4:48 pm, Friday, March 11th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 47 Comments

With the news this afternoon that Rafa Benitez is already taking his first training session at Benton after he canceled the players’ day off – the former Liverpool coach is straight down to business as he tries to save Newcastle United from relegation – which will not be an easy task.

For those people getting home from work here are the pictures we’ve been able to pull together on Rafa’s sensational arrival at Newcastle.

We don’t use the word sensational often – but this is a sensational appointment by Newcastle United.

We assume he traveled in last night and his coaching team is already in place and includes Ian Cathro and goalkeeping coach Simon Smith from the former team.

Rafa doesn’t mess around and that will very quickly get through to the Newcastle players who need to shape up rather quickly .

Great!!

No words are needed with these photos of Rafa.

What if he turns out worse then Mcclaren?

  • 4 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // Mar 11, 2016 at 4:53 PM

That would be pretty funny, but highly unlikely.

  • 5 JamesToon // Mar 11, 2016 at 4:54 PM

  • 10 Mag52 // Mar 11, 2016 at 4:59 PM

    Rotonda.

Just caught up with the news. Looks like my comment about you living in cloud cuckoo land regarding Rafa coming to NUFC, has been blown out of the water.
I’ll never be happier to make you a full and grovelling apology and to accept your superior football knowledge on the Rafa affair.

  • 11 Thump // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:00 PM

Have to say I’m surprised that where wasn’t a “Nigel Pearson replaces Rafa as top target” headline but I’m over the bloody moon about being wrong!

Now. Let’s stay in the league, Rafa.

  • 16 toonking // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:09 PM

Catchy must crying his eyes out and feeling upset about the sacking of mclown, he was a believer in clown.

He’s usually straight onto the blog during situations like this. During the pardew out era you saw him non stop and was soon on when mclown was appointed.

Darren Thwaites on twitter – this is for you – your idea !

You say you want a RAFAlution
    Whey aye you know
We all want to win the League
You tell me that it’s evolution
    Well, y’a know
Geordies want to change the world

But when you talk about relegation
Don’t you know that you can count us out

Don’t you know it’s gonna be alreet
    Alreet ,Alreet

    RAFA’S got a real solution
    Whey aye you know
We’d all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
    Well, you know
    We’re doing what we can

But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait

Don’t you know it’s gonna be alreet
    Alreet , Alreet

You say you’ll change the constitution
    Whey aye you know
We all want to win the Cup
You tell me it’s the institution
    Well, y’a know
You’d better win the League instead

But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mike
You ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow

Don’t you know know it’s gonna be alreet
    Alreet, Alreet,

    Alreet Alreet
    Alreet Alreet
    Alreet Alreet
    Alreet Alreet

love this periscope view of training. Already a huge difference from that fitness and circle kick about of McLaren. Actually learning to pass the ball further than 5 meters for the first time this season.

  • 20 Shadow_Shearer // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:11 PM

Looks like rafa is already starting to tick off the players, calling them in on there day off. Makes a funny story though

  • 21 toon kk // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:13 PM

What formation will Rafa go for?
Hope to see Doumbia get a good run oot.

  • 22 toonheroes // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:14 PM

Rafa unveiling. There is a shift on this one. Manager, no Sprots Direct in the photos, A kick ass manager thats not going to take any bull. Perez should be happy as well. Looking good.

  • 23 Goldmbemba // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:17 PM

Does anyone know what specifically Rafa likes in his strikers?

I mean we all know about torres but do any of our sorry lot come anywhere close to Rafas ideal?

  • 24 KevinHann // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:17 PM

    YoungMagpieFromBurnley

That would mean he has to save us from relegation and then produce worse than McClaren next campaign.

Not sure that is even possible 🙂

  • 25 KevinHann // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:19 PM

The thing I’m curious about is how will the change affect Shelvey – especially since he is such a mood dependent player and he’s instrumental in our current midfield.

  • 26 Average_Contents // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:19 PM

    Toonheroes

There are shite defect in some other pictures. Ed’s just not got hold of them yet.

As if the slug would miss an opportunity. Ever.

  • 27 Wayayman // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:24 PM

Toonheroes @22, I noticed that too. Not a single SD logo in any of the official shots. Maybe a coincidence or might be more to do with Ashley’s rumble with th government these last few days.

Aaaaaanyway lads ‘n lasses I can’t quite believe this has actually happened. Like in most abusive relationships, we’re so used to being the brunt of the big man’s shortcomings and always brace ourselves for the worst.
Today though, this smiling Spanish fella has turned up and suddenly our captor has loosened his grip, let us out in the garden and we’re all enjoying the sun on our skin for the first time in years. Some of us suffer from Stockholm Syndrome, but hopefully we’ll be given some love and passion from our new man to help us get over these horrible last 5 or 6 years

  • 28 Average_Contents // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:25 PM

Made up rafa’s got them in for training. They’ve had a couple of days off already I think (Sunday and Monday?)

Get them in to meet the new manager then he goes and gets them training.

    Fcuking brilliant.

  • 29 bettyswallocks // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:27 PM

Jesper………….. Please come Back. You will be welcomed with open arms. You were here throughout all the misery and frustration , you should be here to share the mood when there is something positive to discuss.

    Young WUM From Burnley

that would not be funny at all

  • 31 EllaGuru // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:28 PM

The last time I was this excited about a new signing was when we signed Alan Shearer back in the day. Here’s hoping this signing in an even more inspired one!

  • 32 SPRINGY // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:29 PM

ive been taking the piss out charnley for being spineless and pretty much useless…but have to give him credit for getting rafa in….ano i could fear the wrath of the blog but back in december when we got beat off everton there was talk of gettin a new manager and benitez name was laughed at by most at any chance of us getting him in…me included… so for gettin rafa in charnley well done…everything else….nar!

  • 33 GeordieTwo // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:29 PM

So it’s real. The club are finally doing something positive. The panic must have really set in. Still digesting the news. A tough spot to be in with only 10 matches left but at least we have some hope now.

  • 34 Wayayman // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:32 PM

I watched the Periscope training session and had a chuckle that Rafa got the lads straight in and put them through their paces. Be interesting to see how they react to this proper kick up the ar5e.
It can only give a positive message, and let the players know that this is how the professional big boys do things. Work harder than anyone else and that’s the bare minimum the new boss expects

  • 35 hibbitt // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:32 PM

a point at Leicester would be nice !!!!!

  • 36 toonking // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:38 PM

    hibbit

I’m not bothered what happens against Leicester city, point would be great but i’ll take a defeat with ease. What I want is a victory against scums.

  • 37 Jail for Ashley // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:38 PM

    G2,
Fantastic news and lets just hope it’s not too late as I genuinely believe he’s here to win something. What a nerve that cretinous pair bills and Jib have after what the fat man has put us through.

  • 38 Novocastrian66 // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:40 PM

I’m in a state of shock. I did not think this would happen. Rafa is a top gaffs. Only trouble is I think it’s too late.

  • 39 JamesToon // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:40 PM

what does everyone reckon rafa’s team will be in his first game?

  • 40 Munster Mag // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:41 PM

Rotunda you and i are both thrilled tonite. Cyber pints all round for all my NUFC brothers. And a few glasses of rioja tonite, fact!! At long last, a leader we can all unite behind. Ed, i dont blame charnley for the delay and said so during the week. If we had sacked steve and rafa had said no thanks….then charnley would have looked like an idiot. Give the sea change re tranfers, and the sackings, this was always going to take days. Well done Ashley for rafa and 80 mill, and well done charnley for getting the deal done. What a proud day for all of us.

  • 41 Mister Tuff // Mar 11, 2016 at 5:41 PM

Good that they’ve finally got a high profile manager.
Good that they have kept Cathro as well.
If there is to be a “Bentez effect” I’m sure well see it on Monday. It will be obvious -if there is mt fears about this season will be diminished.

Jib as usual trying to cause aggro just because he backed the wrong horse – a truly poisonous poster.

Can hardly believe it, my and a lot of supporters dreams come true, its Good Friday come early!
Just hope its not too late as I believe this is the man who should have been appointed months ago. Have the horrible feeling its a bit like giving a blood transfusion to a man who has had his throat cut.
Fantastic appointment for the club, I hope Rafa can pull it off and become the HERO we have craved since SBR.
