Twitter Erupts As Steve McClaren Sacked

12:48 pm, Friday, March 11th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 50 Comments

Twitter has erupted since it was announced that Steve McClaren has been fired less than an hour ago, with fans pleased Newcastle have finally made a decision – which only took them six days.

As usual there are some really funny tweets – from some Newcastle fans and even a Sunderland fan – who accuses us of cheating on their way of winning derbies – by appointing a new manager just before it takes place.

Well – you live and learn as they say.

Steve McClaren – even he couldn’t watch – it was so bad

Whilst it has not been handled well, a £2 million golden handshake would sweeten the sack from most jobs, especially when you have done the job so badly!
In this age of zero-hour contracts, short-term contracts, agency work and masses of EU workers prepared to work for less, I have experienced plenty of shyte in the workplace, but never got a wedge like this! Schteve should just go down to the Beehive for a few trebles – though even the Beehive may not allow his hair in

chronicle reckon rafa left liverpool at 5 this morning so talk of him coming this afternoon seem strange unless he’s travelling by bicycle!….i think he’s already here and could of possibly already signed his contract maybe thats why the sacking statement has come out now…..just my opinion like.

Didn’t think anything would happen, however if they don’t get Rafa over the line now they’ll look like a right bunch of amateurs… Oh wait..

  • 6 sparky55 // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:02 PM

Am I right that there’s no news on Rafa or anyone else being appointed though….just that the buffoon has gone?

  • 12 optimistic prime // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:07 PM

Bloke on sky reckons Rafa will take training tomorrow and Sunday and will be in dugout on Monday

  • 13 mad-serb // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:07 PM

Afternoon guys, just got back from my business trip and first thing I read getting of the plane is Mclaren sacked.

If I knew this I would have booked a return light for Monday then this might have been all done and dusted by then 🙂 Go figure

So Benitez is basically signed up from what I can gather and him being the only one in the running meant he had to probably agreed before they sacked McLaren. So it was an easy choice for us but probably hard for the Board.

The vote was probably 2 vs 2 after Carr found out that Benitez wants full control of transfer. Haha took them a week to figure out to to resolve the vote.

    Whole lot out!!!

I had to take some paracetamol because I can’t stop smiling and my cheek bones are getting sore 🙂

“About time, I don’t think he’s such a classy bloke. I think it’s an embarassment to have failed so badly in his job and if he’d had any class he would have realised a long time ago that he was out of his depth and resigned. It’s shameful but it’s becoming the norm. Ian Holloway walked from Palace a few years ago when he realised himself that he was going to struggle, that’s a manager with dignity, respect and integrity not McClaren he’s just a loser runner off with a lot of the clubs money. Good riddance.”

When was the last time Rafa Benitez walked away from a job after it turned sour? I am assuming you believe Rafa Benitez is a man with no “dignity”, “integrity”, or “self respect”?

  • 16 mindshaft // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:08 PM

    next nufc official announcement
We tried in vain to secure Benitez signature as head coach but felt conditions required were not in the best interests of Graham Carr, we have therefore declined his services, Joe Kinnear will take immediate charge of the team for the remainder of the season

  • 17 SPRINGY // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:08 PM

just from chronicle like… so take it how you like!lol

  • 18 jimiley // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:10 PM

Rafa must be a basket case if he takes on the job

  • 19 firebug666 // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:11 PM

Oh stop it mate this is too much to even dream of, Newcastle with an actual manager, someone who knows what football is all about, a person who will expect players to do what they are paid to do and perform on the pitch, a man who will be expecting his players to win at least 50% of our remaining games.

This is turning into a fantastic week for me, missus gone for 50 days, Macca sacked, and Benitez on his way……

It’s all too much I tell ya!

  • 20 NezzaNUFC // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:14 PM

Why wouldn’t Rafa take on Newcastle?

The structure is there for the taken, one of the best grounds in Europe + the best fan base in the Premier League (if you take out the plastic fans from the other clubs)

We could once again be united into a team and be where we should be in the top 8 every season and all this could happen under Benitez and lets face it it’s been a while since we made someone a legend!

  • 21 SPRINGY // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:14 PM

firebugs having a canny week… rid of two bosses and possibly getting a boss he actually likes!!!!lol

  • 22 SPRINGY // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:16 PM

one step at a time mate…get him signed…get safe…get players…..then start to be hopeful

  • 23 firebug666 // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:16 PM

    Yeah, but in 50 days?????

  • 24 SPRINGY // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:17 PM

day by day…..enjoy every minute of every day!!lol

  • 25 SPRINGY // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:18 PM

that was for you firebug by the way!lol

  • 26 NezzaNUFC // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:18 PM

Indeed mate, but other fans read this blog and are stating on other blogs why would he join Newcastle?

Same could be said why would Claudio Ranieri join Leicester?

  • 27 Shadow_Shearer // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:19 PM

MA did say last season, we now make our own luck. It was a good thing macca was only on a 3 year contract, otherwise he wouldn’t have got the sack like pardew

  • 28 firebug666 // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:20 PM

Oh aye, everyday day is a little holiday for a little while, Mine I could have been with her in Istanbul, but have the kids at school.

So I shall make the most of it.

Firebug – “missus gone 50 days”. Too funny

  • 30 Back Door Man // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:22 PM

Benitez oot, Benitez oot, Benitez, oot, oot, oot.

    You heard it here first.

  • 31 Tsunki // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:22 PM

Guys Guys guys…and girls…benitez hasn’t exactly been announced yet has he? I smell possible disappointment .

  • 32 SPRINGY // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:23 PM

yeah i get what ya saying mate….but the way this club is constantly in the negative spotlight for doing things wrong…a lot of “big” managers or even decent managers would give us a very wide berth….hopefully this is start of a new way of thinking….whats that saying….”always darkest before the dawn” or something.

  • 33 The Diamond dogs hoojars // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:23 PM

If we get Benitez, it’s a hell of a shout, the club hasn’t dealt with this situation ideally, but Rafa is in the World elite of coaches/managers, as long as we get the fella over the line at the end of the day! He will be tested though to the limit at Barrack Road.

  • 34 firebug666 // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:23 PM

Hopefully Benitez will turn this around, and instil some pride & passion into that group of misfiring wannabe’s who wear our colours.

I have every faith that the Spanish Waiter will do the best he can and at least try to get a result in every game left.

  • 35 Tsunki // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:24 PM

How long do think before we will abbreviate Rafa as FSW? Apart from this of course.

  • 36 optimistic prime // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:24 PM

I’m still a little worried it’s the right man at the wrong time, a new manager syndrome win on Monday and a derby win using the scums tactic will make me feel a little better but ATM I’m just praying it isn’t to late.

  • 37 Back Door Man // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:25 PM

Oh, he hasn’t yet been signed, has he?

  • 38 SPRINGY // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:25 PM

its not official….so ya right everyone should chill abit till its announced…if its announced!lol

  • 39 firebug666 // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:25 PM

    Mackems are from MORDOR!

    Love that name, really do.

Yeah she gone to help her mum who just had an op mate, so give her plenty of time to spend there.

  • 40 Shadow_Shearer // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:26 PM

Macca should have walked weeks ago to save his reputation.

I can still see disappointment. Next news will be Ian Cathro to take over, after talks with benitez broke down.

Anybody fancy a punt at David moyes. They say he’s good for steadying the ship.

  • 41 mad-serb // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:26 PM

Don´t spoil the party I am already enjoying my first cold one in celebration. Its done, they wont have sacked him if the did not accept. 😉

  • 42 The Diamond dogs hoojars // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:26 PM

Back door man, here is a large bucket of water do ur best, oh u already have, for god sake fella, al pat u on the back with a clowns hand is that good enough! Jeez.

  • 43 sing in the corner // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:27 PM

    Well what do I know?
Can’t believe it, it seems Rafa is almost a cert!
Everything happens for a reason. If we weren’t in the relegation zone and showing no signs of life there is NO CHANCE our illustrious leaders would have pulled out all the stops to get someone like Rafa, AND give him manager status / control over transfers.
So lads, all this grief just might have been worth it! There is hope anyway…

  • 44 firebug666 // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:28 PM

I think this will be the biggest shake up these players will ever see in their careers. The have the quality, we have seen in in bit and bobs, Benitez will bring them confidence and consistency.

  • 45 NUFCPaul // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:35 PM

I’m no McClaren fan but all the people saying he should have had some dignity and walked away should really engage their brains. Are you telling me that if you were under contract on a great wage and performing badly, you’d just say ‘Sorry about this, I’ll resign and miss out on my big pay-off’? Absolute rubbish. He knew he was a dead man walking and only a few days away from a pay-off settlement, so why should he deny himself that? Just so he could look like the bigger man than Charnley? No matter, he’s gone now.

  • 46 Mackems are from MORDOR! // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:36 PM

Firebug, plenty of time to watch SSN without interruption then.

Jut want that announcment to happen. Then hear Charnley has had a mysterious mishap with a flight of stairs…

  • 47 toontaff2 // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:38 PM

Firebug should head for Tynemouth tonight – grab a granny night, whilst his luck’s in!

  • 48 NUFCPaul // Mar 11, 2016 at 1:42 PM

The stat about no club changing their manager at this stage of the season may be true, but has it been as close as this between three clubs in 19th, 18th and 17th before? Especially when some of those clubs still have to play each other. Bringing Rafa in could be the difference that tips things in our favour.

  • 49 AncientC // Mar 11, 2016 at 2:11 PM

I will not be instantly won over if Benitez arrives. He has been hit and miss throughout his management career, but when it is hit – admittedly, he normally wins silverware.

He could be absolutely perfect for this club, or the complete wrong fit. I remember Dalglish coming in and trying to make the side difficult to beat, there is something about the club that does not seem to respond well to defensive, or if you prefer, ‘balanced’ tactics.

Maybe Benitez’s gone to see Rednapp like what Remy did!
