Anita, Perez, Colback And Mitrovic All Start

Leicester City svgnufc emblem

Rafa Benitez has just announced the Newcastle team for his very first game in charge of Newcastle United against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium tonight and Anita, Perez. Colback and Mitrovic are all in the starting line-up.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Rob Elliot; Daryl Janmaat, Steven Taylor, Jamaal Lascelles, Jack Colback; Vurnon Anita, Jonjo Shelvey (c); Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum, Ayoze Perez; Aleksandar Mitrovic
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Jamie Sterry, Henri Saivet, Siem de Jong, Andros Townsend, Emmanuel Riviere, Seydou Doumbia

Referee: Craig Pawson (South Yorkshire)

It’s the familiar 4-3-3-1 formation with Perez preferred to Andros Townsend who is on the bench as is young Jamie Sterry.

Darlow, Saivet, de Jong, Riviere and Doumbia are the others on the bench tonight with Shelvey again the captain.

This is the first time back for Siem de Jong who may even get a run-out in the second half, after the Dutchman has now recovered from that serious eye injury.

Jack Colback, as expected, comes in at left back for the injured Paul Dummett.

Anita gets the chance to play the defensive midfield role in the center of the park alongside the captain, after just returning from injury.

We need to start picking up points now and with Rafa in charge, hopefully we will start doing that tonight.

A point out of this game would be a very good point.

This is what Rafa said about the lead in to this game:

“We only have three sessions before the first game so it’s going to be difficult against the team at the top of the table. We’ve got a good staff here who are giving us all of the information that we need to prepare so hopefully we can do it.”

“From what I’ve seen I know we have a very good group of players so we need to give them confidence and from them, I will expect 100% in every game.” “The players want to impress the new manager and they have the ability to do so.”

“For now we have to be calm, but not too calm, and approach the games one at a time.”  “Leicester is up next so all of our concentration is on this game.” “I know Ranieri well and he’s doing a great job at Leicester.”

“I think it’s great for the Premier League to have a team like Leicester at the top of the table. It shows that if you do things the right way, you can win anything.”

“They are fantastic and after Monday’s game, I wish them to win the Premier League.” “I will be there in the dugout. I like to be on the pitch with my players and in the dressing room.”

“I like to try to motivate them and give them instructions. From now I am 100% focused and ready.”

About 70% of fans think we can get something out of this game.

Twitter account has the formation as 4-4-1-1.

    Nufc.co.uk:

“Newcastle are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Rob Elliot behind a back four of Daryl Janmaat, Steven Taylor, Jamaal Lascelles and Jack Colback.

Anita will join stand-in captain Jonjo Shelvey in the middle of the park, operating just behind a trio of Moussa Sissoko, nine-goal leading scorer Georginio Wijnaldum and Spanish forward Ayoze Perez.”

Colback at fullback – reasonable – at least it should speed up the midfield a bit.

From a technical perspective we are more than good enough to stay up, it’s the mentality that has been the biggest issue for years. Raffa’s job is simp,y getting the players to put in 100%, easier said than done but it’s a damn sight easier than trying to get results with a bunch of poor players

This relies on Sissoko , Wijnaldum , Mitrovic and Perez putting a shift in dont mind Colback at left back he has pace and he can sort of man mark Mahrez

I think Anita beside Shelvey is a good move he will put a shift in and will keep his discipline

That’ll be Jack Colback suspended for the makems game you would think. He’s gonna be a busy boy at full back tonight, can’t see him not collecting a booking somewhere in the game..

Subs after 60 mins are going to be crucial.
Without any bad injuries to cock things up
I can see Townsend ,Siem de Jong and Doumbia all coming on .

I am surprised Benitez has kept Sissoko on the right of the three. He may not want to make too many tweaks in his first game… so, let them play to keep their positions.

*Imagine the firestorm from the sidelines if Sissoko stalls the ball and Janmaat goes for the overlap*

formation not important…it’s about playing with belief and as a team…we need to avoid letting in an early goal otherwise our shrinking violets will do what they do best.

ok lets go. What team did everyone expect. Anita and Shelvey could be a good partnership in midfield. Perez and Mitro is also good. Didn’t see that so often with McLaren. If we don’t lose by more than 2 goals and play with some heart then that’s not a bad start

    Sparky,
Exactly, we’ve gone from just making up the numbers to a club with a purpose, I just hope the players grasp that and make sure we’re still in the PL to see it all through.

    Dreading colback at LB.

Mind, I’d be dreading dummett at LB too so….doesn’t really matter lol.

Didn’t realise that our only fit defender for the bench is sterry.

    Wow, that’s pathetic.

    Hurry up chancel FFS!
