Last night at the King Power Stadium if we had players who could convert chances we could have taken at least a point out of the game, but we again missed our chances and therefore picked up our eighth successive defeat on the road – which is just a shocking record.
But we expect Rafa to start turning things around very soon – hopefully in the home derby against Sunderland on Sunday afternoon – that would be a terrific way to get his first win at Newcastle and the crowd would go – well – completely nuts – if we can win the game and finally break that six game losing streak.
Papiss Cisse – a return to fitness
And some good news today is that striker Papiss Cisse could be fit for the game as he returns to training this week, but he will need to prove to the manager he is fit enough and sharp enough to be included against the Black Cats.
Here’s what Rafa has said today about the 30 year-old Senegal striker:
“We will see about injuries. We had players coming back from injury like Andros Townsend. Now Papiss Cisse is coming back too.”
“But it depends because he’s been out a long time and we will see during the training sessions. For me to take a risk with a player who is not fully fit is always difficult.”
“Maybe he will come into the training session and scores two or three goals, then we have to change our mind.”
We expect a number of Newcastle’s players to start producing some of their best form for Rafa – simply because the Spaniard is such a great manager.
We saw good performances for instance last night from both Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum, who don’t usually bother even turning up for away games.
Papiss Cisse could also be one of those players – and he will know we need strikers who can put the ball into the back of the net – so hopefully he can start producing again – given that he can prove his fitness and sharpness in training this week.
If we are to survive this season we definitely need some heroes.
And once Papiss is fit we will have Mitrovic, Perez, Riviere, Doumbia and the Senegal man all fit – all our strikers will be fit – so surely one or two of them can find the back of the net?
Papiss has two league goals for us this season at home against Southampton and at Crystal Palace – and as a reminder here are our leading goalscorers this season.
