Sky Sports Pundit – Derby Game Too Close To Call

11:18 am, Friday, March 18th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 8 Comments

It seems that most pundits are saying the game will be very close now that Rafa Benitez is the Newcastle manger but having to overcome six defeats on the trot is going to be difficult for Newcastle – but certainly not impossible and we can win this game.

If the woeful Steve McClaren had been in charge then most pundits and even fans would have called the game for Sunderland and that includes Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.

Paul continues to criticize Newcastle fans in part for the mess we are in – why – we have no idea – but is undecided on the outcome of this game and thinks it’s a very difficult game to call.

Paul Merson – very difficult derby game to call

This is what Paul has said on Sky Sports:

“It’s a big game anyway – but now, with one of these two sides definitely going down, it’s a massive, massive game.” “If Rafael Benitez hadn’t moved to St James Park I would have made Sunderland a certainty. Now, it’s a very difficult game to call.”

“I watched Newcastle on Monday night and they looked a completely different side.” “Watching them against Bournemouth and then against Leicester, the difference was startling. The organisation was better but also, the players seemed to give a lot more.”

“I really did fancy Sunderland for this but Newcastle have shown glimpses of promise already under Benitez.”

If we are to survive this season, given the mess we are in at the moment – then at some point we have to start winning games.

There’s no better game to start winning than against Sunderland at home on Sunday afternoon.

SM wouldn’t dare have the players unfit under SAF. I can’t believe they’re saying SM was giving our lot 72 hours off before a game. Insane if true but would explain a lot.

Great news about MBemba being fit, not sure about Colo!

Not sure how to call it myself either … we would have won the last one if it wasn’t for Colo’s loss of head just before half time. Scum hadn’t kicked the ball in the whole half!!
Feel if we can keep our discipline we can beat them but going to be close..they have a worse team but a better goal threat than us.
Going for 2-1 to the toon. Mitrovic and Wini

I love the fact rafa is here but it’s still really hard to have any confidence in this shower who have disgraced the shirt all season.

Colback and Saylor love to talk but in reality they are 2 of our worst players and championship /league 1 at best.

If by some miracle we do stop up then hopefully all of the following will all have been just a bad dream and will find new homes away from the SJP charity home.

    De Jong
    etc etc

A back 4 of Janmatt, Lascelles, MBemba and MBabu doesn’t look too shabby.

Well on Sunday the record books will be updated as I cannot see us scoring a goal but conceding one. Sad that we go into a derby with the Scums strikers better than ours, ahhhh! I am now going to wash my mouth out.
Sad day to say this but we don`t have any goal regular scorers in our team. Please please prove me wrong…….where are our O`brien`s .

we desperately need to stay up and let rafa get rid of this lazy culture that seems to have been allowed to grow it goes back to the season after we finished 5th
i think he is also the man to cull the dead wood and the leeches that draw wages

if we go down he walks and we will see a repeat of the same as under pards and mclaren

Will never forget us beating the scum at Roker Park all those years ago. One of our lads was hidden amongst the scum supporters (maybe couldn’t get an away ticket so bought a home one?) and when we scored the winner his emotions took him over and he screamed out ‘YESSSS!!!’ Poor fool. They swarmed on him (this was back when it was standing and not much seating) and the next time we saw him he was being carried past on a stretcher. His face was a bloody mess. Suffice to say, those of us wearing our colours under our coats had they zipped up to the top with our collars up. There’s nothing better than seeing a bunch of miserable Mackems walking home after a game though!

Was only reminded of that with kimbo mentioning O’Brien. Can’t believe that was 24 years ago. Sigh.
