Apparently Doumbia is a write-off beermonkey mate. Either Rafa doesn’t rate him or he’s carrying a knock. Either way useless to us.

Such a waste to have Wijnaldum so deep, need him around the box much higer. Think he needs to take one of the wide positions again, maybe on the left with Sissoko or Townsend right.

Perez was v poor again yesterday, cannot start next week.

What we really lack is pace up front, someone to run the channels and turn the CBs, to run in behind and stretch the oppostion to create space for others. Everything is played in front of their Cbs making it too easy to defend and close any space.

Think Mbemba did ok after his long layoff, bit rusty but ok. Lascelles was ok too, we look much better in the air in open play wit those 2 together, still dodgy from set pieces though.

    Team vs Norwich-depending on fitness

That team probably won’t beat Norwich away JD mate. Wijnaldum disappears in away games. I don’t know how we’ll get the goals we need to beat them (at least 2 knowing our defense). I thought Townsend was good today. Mitrovic isn’t quick enough. If Doumbia is fit we should try him before it’s too late. Perez was poor as you say. De Jong seemed to give us a lift. I would go with him in behind Doumbia with Townsend and Wijnaldum on the wings even though Wijnaldum has been disappointing. Sissoko is so unpredictable. We can’t afford that now.

“For somebody that thinks it’s all opinions you seem to be heavily invested in needing to be seen to be right in the eyes of others, trying to use empiricism in football to back you up and mute others. Well the fans don’t seem to agree with your objective stats by and large. Fairly sure you said NUFC-83 had no point at one stage, now “it’s all opinions”. Right.”

That is correct, I said NUFC-83 didn’t have a point, he had an opinion, which backs up what I said, not distracts from it.

I backed up my opinion with facts, which makes an opinion into a point. Nufc-83 merely floated an opinion – that is the difference.

it wasn’t just the goal, dur , it was the celebration too. that’s why I voted for him, also after being knocked out, the guy still wanted to play,
if it wasn’t him , for me it was one of the CB both had good games,

Not sure why Townsend is in 2nd place though, thought the game passed him by for large parts of the game, him and Jannmat are on different pages. would have put him on the left

Gini and Townsend switching. Defence largely dependent on who is available. Sissoko’s energy and drive should be used to go straight through the heart of teams, which causes panic and creates space. No ball winner, but we don’t really have one with COlback suspended and Tiote absent for whatever reaso – gone on for too long that, seems to come back for 3/4 games then disappears without explanation. Mitro I’m still not convinced by and wouldn’t mind seeing Cisse ahead of him.

Wish we’d call back Armstrong, crying out for pace and movement up front, but Rafa will stick with his 1 ST and that doesn’t work for any of our lot and it wouldn’t for him either. Mitro is supposed to be able to do that job, but he gets beaten too often and too easily no matter how willing.

I honestly believe if we get gini and Townsend on the wing with cisse and mitro in the middle and basically get it out wide with a view of whipping the ball in constantly we will score enough goals to keep us up. Throw sdj into that equation as cam coming in late and we have a real threat. Perez needs a period in the stands and somebody needs to put coldback out for the season as he’s completely useless. I would much rather go with sissoko in the lb position than that clown.

Ancient the bottom line of the whole thing is at half time you said bring Townsend off. Any football fan who knows anything about the game could see he was our most effective player going forward which shows you know f all. Just because gini created the goal it doesn’t prove you correct as I said if the same when Perez gets cleared from the line from Townsend delivery. No more needs to be said on the matter as you showed you are clueless by asking for our best player to get brought off.

Facts aren’t facts when some independent site as you call it, loosely defines things like successful dribbles for which you do not know their basis, which even if you did other people may not agree with the definition of and would have just as much credibility in doing so.

I’ve had enough. Let’s just say you’re right and are always incontestably right. Seems to be the only thing that will satisfy your insecurity in needing to be seen to be right in the eyes of others.

Nufc83, what does ‘whoscored’ say? They are use by the bookmakers, so if you had put money on Sissoko to be MOTM, they would have paid out.

I voted Mitrovic MOTM just for reference.

Until you provide some statistical evidence that states Townsend was the best player in the first half, we will just have to settle on your assessment as being opinion and not fact based.

I am sorry that you have trouble expressing yourself clearly, and need to resort to insults. That is not normally the sign of a person doing well in a debate.

Relegation is almost a must to get rid of all the crap in the Club.
Rafa should stay in the Championship……rebuild the team. IF anybody can do a straight up its him. He surely could pull it off…

Build a team with pace and prowess…. if he signs he should do it in style and stick it for the long haul..

Tbf in the first half we huffed and puffed like a league 1 team totally out of its depth. In the second half we vastly improved. But we’re still a poor side. We’re in the bottom three for a reason, we totally lack quality.
As far as our best player goes Townsend showed the most quality going forward. Gini hadn’t a bad second half. Mitrovic got us a good goal but is one for the future.
I don’t like admitting it but we’re an average championship side no more.

Ancient the ratings by these sites are utter rubbish and 169 Newcastle fans agree with me and its not even a poll about who was better Townsend or Sissoko or that would be even greater. You can take your high horse stance about insults etc but lets just call it how it is you are spouting uselss stats to try and back up such a stupid comment about taking our most effective player off in the 1st half. I dont feel all fans should have the same opinions but when something so stupid is said it gets me angry its that simple.

Just got back in from the match. Probably a fair result they were better than us first half but we were much better in the second half. I though Rafa’s substitutions were very effective – I must admit I was puzzled putting Sisoko at LB and Anita at RB but it worked! I can’t understand the abuse of Townsend he was excellent first half and faded a bit second half but was OK.

Mitrovic!!! He has more passion and guts than any other 3 players combined. There is a true Geordie inside that Serb’s heart!!! Also agree with others that want to see Siem get a start in next match. He has the calmness and control in the 10 spot that we were lacking up until he entered the game. Can’t wait for match at Norwich with Rafa having another 2 weeks to work with this team…

Good to see one of the new coaches ( I should know his name ) going potty when Mitro scored – take a look at the video . Good to see some positive passion replace the doomsday images of McLaren and Carver before him.

Shelvey needs to play more on the left – otherwise he drags his shots if he’s too central and too square on and that reduces some of his passing options . It’s something to do with his posture and if he’s more to the left and can then open up his body to the right he will hit his shots better( like a golfer I think he shanked or pulled or dragged too many strikes today ) and we’ll see more of his defence splitting passes .

“Ancient the ratings by these sites are utter rubbish”

I wouldn’t agree with that, there are certainly better statistical models that professionals have access to, but to rule out publicly available stats as “utter rubbish” is short-sighted in my opinion.

Here is some on WhoScored: (This could be a bit long winded so skip it if you wish)

    WhoScored Ratings Explained

WhoScored.com Ratings are considered to be the most accurate, respected and well-known performance indicators in the world of football. Our ratings are currently used among media giants, bookmakers and football clubs.

WhoScored.com Ratings are based on a unique, comprehensive statistical algorithm, calculated live during the game. There are over 200 raw statistics included in the calculation of a player’’s/team’’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game. Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.

An example: An attempted dribble (event) in the opposition’s final third (area of pitch) that is successful (outcome) will have a positive effect on a player’s rating. Ratings that are flashing show that an event influencing said rating has just occurred. Green indicates an increase, while red indicates a decrease in rating.

The scoring system for the ratings is out of 10, starting from 6.0, with 10 being the highest score. The ratings are updated live every 30 seconds during the game. Our data providers Opta will update and adjust statistics where necessary 5 minutes after the final whistle. The statistics, and therefore ratings, are also subject to change at anytime after the game, due to any further corrections that need to be made to the statistics.

A green star will be awarded to the man of the match 10 minutes after full time. A few minutes after full time our data provider will undergo a review process to improve the accuracy of the statistics, which may result in some stats being corrected/updated. Ratings are also subject to an increase or decrease based on the number of goals a team has scored or conceded, and whether the team has kept a clean sheet at 90 minutes. Such boosts in rating are affected by an individual’s playing position and their time on the pitch and will be calculated at full time.

Sissoko being slated, and I don’t quite understand why. Not a fantastic performance by him, but hardly poor by any means. He was trying to get forward, tracking back, and was arguably as effective at LB than Janmaat was at RB (and remember he plays centre mid).

Wouldn’t have said he was man of the match either, mind. Townsend edged that for me.

    1 Lascelles
    2 Elliott

positives: mitro scoring, thought townsend, mitro, perez all played well; de jong also brought more balance to the team when he came on. and, m’bemba returning. we also stopped the rot in general, and against the mackems

negatives: i thought mackems actually looked quite good, and that doesn’t bode well for us, a team that needs to finish above them; janmaat getting injured (seriously- who is our back up right back?); colback once again exposed

The atmosphere was cracking. Incredibly, Newcastle contrived to kill it. How is it possible? And if Mitro thinks he can wave his arms to get the crowd going, he needs to take a good look at himself. To get the crowd behind you, you put the effort in and put yourself about. Janmaat thinks he’s done enough because he wins a corner. We are dreadful. Absolutely shocking.

Maybe today has just provided a momentum shift ( however small ).
We came back from 0-1 down and squashed the Mackems bragging rights and on the radio their talk is all about their inability to keep a clean sheet and how disruptive Allardyces substitutions are. It’s knocked their confidence and their doubts and negativity are increasing. While we didn’t get three points we didn’t loose, equalised and restored some faith for Rafa to work with. It’s a start .

A point isn’t disastrous for us, even feels like a win given we were 1-0 down and should jave been more. If we can build on it then we’ll be okay. Need another 4 goals from Mitro really in the last 8 games and not sure he has it in him.

Also, we’ve got more points when SDJ is playing than without. I don’t think it’s coincidence.
