With Paul Dummett injured again and Jack Colback managing to pick up his 10th yellow card against Sunderland on Sunday and now suspended for two games, it was good news that Massadio Haidara had returned to training since being out with a knee injury since last October.
But yesterday during training the Frenchman twisted his knee and although the doctor’s prognosis is not in yet – Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez thinks he will not be fit for the game at Norwich a week tomorrow.
Massadio Haidara – twisted his knee yesterday
So once again this season we have no specialist left-back available in our lop-sided squad and therefore Rafa will need to draft somebody in to play there against the Canaries at Carrow Road.
This is what Rafa said yesterday about Massadio:
“We don’t know yet about Haidara, but he twisted his knee so now we have to manage the situation we have. Colback cannot play, I don’t think that Haidara will be available – we will see the diagnostic of the doctor.”
“We have a problem and we have to find a solution from what we have at the moment. When you have players away on international duty then you have to wait, and after you have to start thinking.”
Maybe Vurnon Anita can play there since he played a full season at left back in the 2009-2010 season for Ajax.
So the Dutch International has experience playing in that position and Vurnon did well at right back on Sunday when he replaced the injured Daryl Janmaat.
We are hoping Daryl will be fit for Norwich and it’s that knee of his again – but treatment and rest usually clears up the problem.
