Calm But Positive Benitez Urges His Players On

When the new manager Rafa Benitez came into Newcastle on 11th March he met with the players that afternoon after signing on as the new Newcastle manager – and he gave the squad a long talk on why he was at Newcastle and what he wanted to achieve in the final 10 games of the season.

Then  he immediately got down to business and held an impromptu training session, which sent a message to the players that he doesn’t exactly mess around.

Unfortunately, in hIs first two games in charge they have yielded only one point, but Rafa told the players that could happen and that they shouldn’t let their heads drop – ever.

Rafa Benitez – the new Messiah?

This is what Rob Elliot has said about the new manager:

“The new gaffer is a very calming influence,”   “When he came in he said straight away that even if had we had bad results in his first three games, it didn’t mean it’s over.

“He’s urged us not to let our heads drop because he’s seen things he can build on with us.”

“He’s a manager whose experience speaks for itself and his presence has helped up the level around the place.”

Benitez has changed a number of things already, but he is keen to change only a few things in the way the team plays, because otherwise it could be too much for the team to absorb in the short seven weeks left until the end of the season.

In every one of the final eight games Benitez will attempt to pick up all three points, unlike our previous head coach Steve McClaren, who after 18 days of preparation for the Stoke City game played for a 0-0 draw from the very first whistle.

He then said we were unlucky not to get a point because Stoke scored the winner close to the end of the game and Jack Butland made a great save in stoppage time from new boy Seydou Doumbia.

Rafa Benitez doesn’t think in that rather negative and even defeatist way – the former Liverpool boss knows that fortune favors the brave.

He is like a breath of fresh air at Newcastle and his personality and positive approach and thinking to everything he does is simply infectious.
