Calm But Positive Benitez Urges His Players On

3:06 pm, Saturday, March 26th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 92 Comments

When the new manager Rafa Benitez came into Newcastle on 11th March he met with the players that afternoon after signing on as the new Newcastle manager – and he gave the squad a long talk on why he was at Newcastle and what he wanted to achieve in the final 10 games of the season.

Then  he immediately got down to business and held an impromptu training session, which sent a message to the players that he doesn’t exactly mess around.

Unfortunately, in hIs first two games in charge they have yielded only one point, but Rafa told the players that could happen and that they shouldn’t let their heads drop – ever.

Rafa Benitez – the new Messiah?

This is what Rob Elliot has said about the new manager:

“The new gaffer is a very calming influence,”   “When he came in he said straight away that even if had we had bad results in his first three games, it didn’t mean it’s over.

“He’s urged us not to let our heads drop because he’s seen things he can build on with us.”

“He’s a manager whose experience speaks for itself and his presence has helped up the level around the place.”

Benitez has changed a number of things already, but he is keen to change only a few things in the way the team plays, because otherwise it could be too much for the team to absorb in the short seven weeks left until the end of the season.

In every one of the final eight games Benitez will attempt to pick up all three points, unlike our previous head coach Steve McClaren, who after 18 days of preparation for the Stoke City game played for a 0-0 draw from the very first whistle.

He then said we were unlucky not to get a point because Stoke scored the winner close to the end of the game and Jack Butland made a great save in stoppage time from new boy Seydou Doumbia.

Rafa Benitez doesn’t think in that rather negative and even defeatist way – the former Liverpool boss knows that fortune favors the brave.

He is like a breath of fresh air at Newcastle and his personality and positive approach and thinking to everything he does is simply infectious.

    Trying to keep up!!

I wonder if Rafa is working on Jonjo getting him to tie his laces properly.

  • 2 Essex Geordie Bill // Mar 26, 2016 at 3:11 PM

    And another catch-up

Glad to see SDJ wasn’t injured not playing in Holland last night

  • 3 firebug666 // Mar 26, 2016 at 3:11 PM

That might take a little longer to achieve, but if Rafa keeps us up Jonjo could be tying a double bow by Christmas.

  • 4 Jib // Mar 26, 2016 at 3:20 PM

Player’s not playing is no guarantee of staying injury free – just look at Colo – and don’t forget 90% of accidents happen in the home.

  • 5 Essex Geordie Bill // Mar 26, 2016 at 3:26 PM

Absolutely true, I ricked my neck once just lying in bed!

    Firebug 🙂

  • 6 WWSBRD // Mar 26, 2016 at 3:35 PM

Moncur out talking again, heard an interesting thing on the true faith podcast about him I’d recommend people listen to the full thing good talking pieces on the Jonas situation and the Ashley ownership with his asset stripping. Made me equally worried as angry

  • 7 Jib // Mar 26, 2016 at 3:44 PM

I’m not going to enquire about your neck ricking as I know children read this blog.

  • 8 martoon // Mar 26, 2016 at 4:27 PM

God it’s boring with no premiership over Easter. I’ll say it again who’s bright idea was it to have a international break over Easter?

  • 9 martoon // Mar 26, 2016 at 4:33 PM

At least we’re on top in the cricket 🙂

  • 10 Hail Wor Ashley // Mar 26, 2016 at 4:41 PM

With all the international breaks and our dour cup record, we’re hardly ever playing and when we do, they don’t turn up.

  • 11 Jail for Ashley // Mar 26, 2016 at 4:55 PM

Jeezus H Christ, what a dour morose induvidual you are, I’d rather have a pint with Ian Beale than you!

  • 12 beermonkey // Mar 26, 2016 at 5:05 PM

    who is ian beal
    is he on here
    have i missed something again

  • 13 Jib // Mar 26, 2016 at 5:17 PM

    Jail watches Eastenders (sad twat)

  • 14 firebug666 // Mar 26, 2016 at 5:34 PM

I don’t watch Eastenders or any other soap, but I know of some of the characters. Why is it sad that other watch soaps, not all TV tastes are the same.

This is though exactly the type of response we have come to expect from you.

    “Jail watches Eastenders (sad twat)”

I don’t think so mate. he may like the trauma of the soaps, it would be a little light entertainment after spending a day on the blog with the likes of you.

  • 15 beermonkey // Mar 26, 2016 at 5:53 PM

i am lucky misses dont like soaps so never have them on

  • 16 Jail for Ashley // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:05 PM

Growing up in the eighties and nineties without Satelite TV it would be pretty hard not to know who Ian Beale was, you seemed to know mind. Your hypocrisy mixed with ignorance is very well known on this blog, another stick of dynamite blowing up in your lunch box that you thought was someone elses. As it happens I can’t stand any of the soaps.

  • 17 WWSBRD // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:07 PM

Is watching soaps any sadder than watching the replay of the club u claim to support being beaten daily between weekends?

  • 18 Blackley and Brownlie // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:10 PM

You were right. Very tight under 18s game at Thorp Arch this morning. Leeds Utd looked the better side for the first 20 to 25 minutes until Huddersfield equalised. Leeds probably had the better chances but Huddersfield managed to snatch it at the death after a gutsy display. Good entertainment.

  • 19 Jib // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:19 PM

    There you go
He’s not a sad twat cos he watches soaps
    WWSBRD however is .

  • 20 beermonkey // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:19 PM

as a kid i watched neighbours cos it was on when we had dinner
as for other soaps i was to busy in my bedroom avoiding my homework and trying to master the classics such as missile command, jet set willy, moon patrol, leggit,

  • 21 WWSBRD // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:22 PM

    I am what?

  • 22 Jail for Ashley // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:22 PM

Ian Beale’s is a dour morose character in Eastenders and is one of the original characters (I think). He would probably be the last person on earth you would like to be sat next to in a bar, excepting HWA of course.

  • 23 firebug666 // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:25 PM

I love Manic Miner and Thunderbirds on the 48k spectrum.

Why is WWSBRD a sad Tw@ then…Please explain!

  • 24 beermonkey // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:30 PM

i will take the beale person he aint real and wont actually be in the bar

  • 25 Jib // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:31 PM

My post went off in me hand

  • 26 beermonkey // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:36 PM

manic miner was good i dont recall thunderbirds though
all mine are boxed up and in the loft i know i got all the games but i bet the instructions are not there
i will dig them out in a few years and make my son play them ha ha no playstation or xbox for him

  • 27 firebug666 // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:41 PM

Thunderbirds was the one where you were rescuing trapped archaeologists from a tomb you had T-birds 1 and 2 and could choose another like T-bird 4. You had to use them to escape the tomb / pyramid each new page was a puzzle and you had to use the t-bird to move blocks and open a way up so both t-birds could move on together.

A lot of fun in those days, I sold all my games and the machines when I got an Amiga 500 lol

  • 28 welshgeordie9 // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:47 PM

Eastenders no, Eldorado on the other hand……………

    Ha ha ha

  • 29 beermonkey // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:51 PM

didnt have the amiga but between me and my brothers we had a com 64 a spectrum and an atari 800xl with disk drive lol
it also had a cartridge slot in the top

  • 30 welshgeordie9 // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:52 PM

Bring back the Sullivan’s and sons and daughters that’s what i say.

  • 31 firebug666 // Mar 26, 2016 at 6:54 PM

I remember them all mate had some myself, had an external HDD for my amiga, but when I got the Amiga 1200, I use the Amiga 500 to decode all the analogue sky channels for free pmsl.

  • 32 beermonkey // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:05 PM

i didnt know u could do that with them

  • 33 Jail for Ashley // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:11 PM

Wow, incredible, welsh must be in his late twenties to remember Eldarodo. I’ve always pitied welsh as I thought he was a bored teenager. It has now just been proved that he is just plain emotionally and physiologically immature as well as having an IQ in the double figures. Poor guy should seek help.

  • 34 welshgeordie9 // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:12 PM

    Is that illegal.

  • 35 firebug666 // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:12 PM

All you had to do was buy a card, mine cost £25, plugged it in to the RS connector on the amiga, and put the card in the decoder slot, then switch on, insert the install disk, and it decoded every single channel with no exceptions.

  • 36 welshgeordie9 // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:14 PM

Immature coming from a guy who spits his dummy out more times than anyone on here.

  • 37 firebug666 // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:14 PM

    Why would it be illegal?

Besides it’s only naughty if you get caught. Even today there are those that clone cards for free sky.

  • 38 welshgeordie9 // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:17 PM

Besides how’s watching Eldorado being immature.

  • 39 welshgeordie9 // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:18 PM

Just wondering that’s all, there’s so many things on the market i wouldn’t know the difference.

  • 40 welshgeordie9 // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:20 PM

    Grumpy Jail

You are right about one thing though, i do need help.

    Ha ha ha

  • 41 welshgeordie9 // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:21 PM

Right I’m off to watch Germany win.

  • 42 Jail for Ashley // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:22 PM

Nothing to do with Eldorado me old mate!

  • 43 firebug666 // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:23 PM

I don’t have sky myself now as I think it’s a lot of money to watch repeats, if I get that desperate to watch something I will download it and probably watch it before sky get it. lol

I do have Talk Talk but again knocked of the expensive TV bundles, as I have seen all that’s on offer.

Basically mate it all just a rip off.

  • 44 beermonkey // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:26 PM

Granada Plus, ITV, ITV2, Men & Motors, MovieMax, MTV, MTV2, Premier, Shop, Sky One, Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 2, Sky Sports 3

I got my snide card from Longbenton.

It was so easy to crack it was obviously never going to last

  • 46 firebug666 // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:31 PM

True but I was never in it for the money, I just like to take every opportunity to stick my fingers up at the greedy companies that rake in billions while offering little in return.

Aye they were easy to crack, sky has made it harder, but clone cards still get through for a while.

  • 47 beermonkey // Mar 26, 2016 at 7:34 PM

Maths clearly not your strongest subject 😀

  • 69 welshgeordie9 // Mar 26, 2016 at 9:50 PM

I take it all back mate, that’s the squad should do very well in the summer, it’s about time some of the youngsters are called up, pick players that are on form and not picked because of who they are, commentators were spot on with players that haven’t been playing well but still get picked, Rooney for example, he will have to work very hard now.

  • 70 Jib // Mar 26, 2016 at 9:51 PM

    Toontang that’s 100/1 on

  • 71 Jib // Mar 26, 2016 at 9:52 PM

    He’s finished

  • 72 welshgeordie9 // Mar 26, 2016 at 9:52 PM

Vardy, Kane, Deli alli, Barkley, looking forward to seeing them in the summer, as long as deli alli put his chances away of course.

  • 73 Toon Tang // Mar 26, 2016 at 9:52 PM

Haha I got on at 3/1 with 2.50 sorry last of the big spenders

    Every little helps eh.

Buzzing with the performance more than anything

  • 74 Essex Geordie Bill // Mar 26, 2016 at 10:00 PM

I got one word right in my assessment but it was the Germans who struggled.

Did we not miss out big time on Ali MOM fro me despite that miss.

  • 75 Toon Tang // Mar 26, 2016 at 10:01 PM

Pisses me off slightly when pundits say “but where is rooney going to fit in to that team” or “but who will Roy drop for rooney”

Utter bollocks. Why is rooney instantly guaranteed a place when he’s been shite for ages?

  • 76 Essex Geordie Bill // Mar 26, 2016 at 10:07 PM

    Toon Tang

Aye, for ManU as well. Could he be burnt out having started to young.

  • 77 Toon Tang // Mar 26, 2016 at 10:13 PM

Egb, maybe mate aye, he used to look hungry as hell but I suppose a lot of that youthful exuberance has been squished out of him. Loosing all his hair didn’t help as well. Samson-esque

  • 78 Laurent Robert 32 // Mar 26, 2016 at 10:13 PM

Mag52, I don’t tend to watch internationals because for a while I was in a job where I tended to miss them, so I got used to not watching them.

I like the tournaments, just not so much the friendlies as I have other interests. Ones which I’ve just been getting on with there.

So far so good on the international call ups front. Our four first team players have played a combined total of 17 mins between them. Still time yet like of course. Another round of games in midweek. And lots of those pesky training session things, and we know warm downs are fraught with danger (eh Colo?).
England were very slick last night. Only a friendly but at times our young uns made the Hun look pedestrian and old news.
