Sports Italia are reporting that Newcastle are interested in signing Torino’s Kamil Glik in the summer transfer window, if the club is still in the Premier League at that time.
One position that Newcastle must strengthen in the summer, whether we go down or not, is center-back so we can have a strong central spine – and the 6ft 3ins Polish center-back fits the bill there.
Maybe if we had done that last summer we wouldn’t be in the mess we are in right now?
Kamil Glik – 28 year-old Polish center-back
Kamil may be a bit old at 28, but that should be less of a concern at the new Newcastle, with Rafa Benitez now fully in charge of the transfers.
Presumably we will stop bringing in cheaper and younger players from France, who turn out to be not good enough for the Premier League and never make it in England.
The 37 times capped Polish International will be well known to Rafa Benitez from his time in managing Inter-Milan and Naples in Italy – and we’re sure he has a number of targets to go after this summer if Newcastle survive the drop.
The 28 year-old center-back joined Torino from Palermo back in 2011 and he has so far played 166 games with 13 goals for the Turin club.
Kamil Glik was born in Poland but he has a German grandfather and therefore has German citizenship.
Glik could have played for Germany or Poland but chose Poland and made his debut for them back in January, 2010 against Thailand in the King’s Cup,
Other Premier League clubs said to be interested in the player include Tottenham and Everton, but Newcastle will be after some top players in the summer – if Rafa Benitez is still with us at that time.
