Breaking News – Elliot Stretchered Off Playing For Ireland

It’s almost the worst news imaginable that Rob Elliot the Newcastle goalkeeper has been stretchered off early in the game this afternoon playing for Ireland against Slovakia with what looks like a bad knee injury.

Stoch had just put Slovakia ahead after 14 minutes when Rob sustained what looks like a bad injury.

This was always likely to happen and we had mentioned it a few times that if Rob was injured we have only Karl Darlow and young Freddie Woodman who have one Premier League game between them.

Rob Elliot – looks like bad knee injury

It’s not clear to us that we qualify to bring in another goalkeeper on an emergency loan since we have two goalkeepers on contract available.

This is why we could have signed up former goalkeeper Steven Harper, but he’s been signed up by Sunderland and Sam Allardyce.

To us this is even more evidence that those in charge at the club don’t know what they are doing and and don;pt seem to plan for things that could happen in the future.

We warned about this possibility months ago and once again we lose a key player who gets injured on International duty.

This is what we wrote at the beginning of February in one of the articles:

“And we just shudder in case the brilliant Rob Elliot gets injured because if he is out, we don’t see any plan in place from Newcastle other than to play the inexperienced Karl Darlow in goal.”

We wrote this in January asking what was Newcastle’s plan in case Elliot got injured?

Comments welcome.

    Disaster Darlow or fledgling Freddie.

If we weren’t down already we sure are now if Elliot is out for more than a week. Player of the season and makes 2 or 3 good saves every match with very little mistakes – only 1 I can think of this season is the Stoke goal and that’s debatable.

    We’re doomed.

I don’t know if anyone has seen any of the Ireland game , it’s a bit feisty for a friendly.

“This was always likely to happen”

What was always likely to happen? That Elliot would be injured on international duty? Yes, we’ve had really bad luck with two international goalkeepers getting injured on international duty in the same season, but this was never a likely scenario. I understand you want to beat the regime down for lack of preparation which they rightly deserve for their handling of many aspects of the club, but this is taking that too far.

You can’t expect a club to have three international-level goalkeepers around all of the time in case two get hurt. It’s not realistic and a waste of money and squad spaces. We have backups that are youngsters with promising futures and that is who any well-run club would look to in this situation.

Tuff – Once again you’ve crossed the line by drawing attention to Jib’s name when no one else had noticed. However you’re too far up your own backside to acknowledge this was wrong and apologise.

A lot thought we were stuffed when Krul was injured and Elliott had to play because Darlow was already injured

What’s to say Darlow won’t now step up?

No, but you can expect to have 2 capable keepers for the 2nd half of a season… which we could have attained in the previous transfer window. Darlow as 2nd choice for a club in the relegation zone – simply not good enough.

When Krul got crocked and we realised woodman and darlow werent at the level we need, a replacement on a tempoarary basis should have been a must. in piss a brewery up.

Darlow now has to prove himself in the one of Premier League’s worst sides this season. Exactly the wrong time in his career to be getting games.

Just another example of why the club is always on the brink, one risk after another.
