Distraught Fans React on Twitter To Rob Elliot Injury

8:37 pm, Tuesday, March 29th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 31 Comments

When Rob Elliot was stretchered off tonight playing for Ireland, the knee injury looked serious and it could even be an ACL injury – like the one Tim Krul picked up playing for the Netherlands in October.

So our two top goalkeepers this season have been crocked playing in Internationals this season and this could be a real problem for Newcastle in our fight for survival as a Premier League side this season.

It’s especially annoying when this Intentional was a friendly – but on the positive side it’s a great chance for young Karl Darlow to show what he can do.

But as we have said and written about over the lass several months Newcastle should have seen this coming and brought in an experienced goalkeeper on loan just in case.

What’s Newcastle’s Plan In Case Rob Elliot Injured?

It may seem worse than it is

    Repost
A lot thought we were stuffed when Krul was injured and Elliott had to play because Darlow was already injured

What’s to say Darlow won’t now step up?

  • 4 nufcursed // Mar 29, 2016 at 8:47 PM

darlow will do the job as well.
if we survive with him, this might do his career a lot of good.
it’s the team on the field that needs to do the job

When Krul got crocked and we realised woodman and darlow werent at the level we need, a replacement on a tempoarary basis should have been a must. in piss a brewery up.

watching england vs holland and im more worried about gini getting a knock than england playing well

  • 7 sing in the corner // Mar 29, 2016 at 8:50 PM

Yeah Darlow is a canny keeper with a bit of 1st team experience. It’s not exactly a Ben Alnwick situation.. ( I cringe at that memory)

  • 8 martoon // Mar 29, 2016 at 8:52 PM

I have to say while the Elliot injury is a setback I don’t think it will be the factor that gets us relegated if the worst was to happen. Darlow & Woodman should provide adequate backup.
I wonder if we’ll be allowed an emergency loan – maybe we can loan Harper from the makems 🙂

  • 9 AncientC // Mar 29, 2016 at 8:55 PM

Darlow now has to prove himself in the one of Premier League’s worst sides this season. Exactly the wrong time in his career to be getting games.

Just another example of why the club is always on the brink, one risk after another.

Darlow in nets, do we even have a fit left back? Janmatt already talking up his departure. What is the story with Coloccini? absolute calamity.

    Here comes the relegation battle.

Off thread but if the cap fits……

    http://www.urban75.com/Mag/argument.html

Or maybe one or two of our more combative posters have read it already?

  • 11 JP...from The Rock // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:00 PM

In shock! This is the final nail in the coffin I am afraid. We truly are cursed aren’t we. Gutted. Darlow has been nothing short of terrible when on on. I would prefer Woodman.

Really fear for us now, looks like we are certain to be relegated with this latest setback.

  • 12 Bambams // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:05 PM

Can we not bring in an emergency keeper ?

  • 13 Mister Tuff // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:09 PM

Martoon – don’t be daft – it was Jib’s own error of posting his name (if indeed it is his name) on a public forum. I fail to see why there is any need for me to apologise for his mistake.
He’ll be cooking up some feeble retort. You seems to like to poke your bugle into other peoples business – too many cooks and all that.

  • 14 manxpie // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:11 PM

Oh ffs!!!! How can one club have so much bad luck
and looking at that pic jib posted it looks bad in fact his whole right leg has shrank not good!

  • 15 AncientC // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:11 PM

It is looking like our back line will be something like this for Norwich

    ———-Darlow
    Anita Lascelles Taylor Aarons

And if one of those gets suspended or injured?
Colback is suspended for 2 games.
I am sure everybody will be all for Sissoko at LB, but 10 or 15 minutes isn’t strong enough evidence to suggest he can play there. Sissoko could play in nets for 10 minutes and look good, that doesn’t mean he is up to it.

  • 16 cyprus // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:15 PM

The club can’t be blamed for not having three international goalkeepers, it’s true what another poster said, cone on. And although this Darliw was terrible in his debut, Forest fans claim both he and Lascelles are top talents. Step up Darlow. Now or never mate.

  • 17 manxpie // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:17 PM

We can’t get an emergency loan either as we have 2 registered keepers

  • 18 cyprus // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:18 PM

Anyway this Elliott has been a revelation. My player of the year. Congratulations and get well man.

  • 19 AncientC // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:18 PM

“The club can’t be blamed for not having three international goalkeepers”

Krul has been injured practically all season, the club CAN be blamed for having only 1 international keeper, and he is only an international due to performing a lot better than most thought he would. We already got lucky with the form of Elliot, yet still decided against bringing in back-up for him, for the rest of the season.

No disrespect to Elliot, but he doesn’t exactly look like a lean, fit, fighting machine… he looked soft around the edges and liable of breaking down sooner or later anyway.

  • 20 manxpie // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:22 PM

Ancient aye one of the younger keepers should be out on a season loan and hasnt elliot already been playing through an injury for some time

  • 21 Harley // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:23 PM

Everyone banging on about how bad Darlow is after 1 game.
Frazer Forster was sold on the basis of 1 bad game in pre season. And everyone at the time agreed, including me.

Darlow was forests first choice keeper for a few seasons at a really young age. He can’t be judged on 1 game.

  • 22 cyprus // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:23 PM

True that second paragraph. Still he didn’t look the part, but he played it admirably. I’m a big fan of Krul but this guy earned his place. Some amazing saves and a good spirit. Congratulations Elliott my man

  • 23 Jib // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:25 PM

    Manx
Ha ha ha I hadn’t noticed the foreshortening effect

  • 24 martoon // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:25 PM

Tuff @13 – Yes it was Jib’s mistake but no one had noticed until you decided to expose it for all to see. Nothing to do with ‘poking my bugle in’ I’ve noticed you love to jump on other people’s mistakes yet when you make one you are too arrogant to admit it and even resort to feeble attempts to deflect the blame such as a pathetic claim that ‘sand dancer’ was a racist term.

  • 25 Jib // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:28 PM

AncientC – the club CAN be blamed for having only 1 international keeper.

Does Ireland not count as a country like ?

  • 26 AncientC // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:29 PM

Darlow may come good. Fact remains, those running the club were wrong to leave the squad with nothing but a gamble if Elliot gets injured.

    54 Emergency Loan of Goalkeepers

54.1 “If all the professional goalkeepers at a Club are either certified by an independent medical practitioner as being unfit to play or are suspended, a Club may register (either before or after the deadlines laid down in Regulation 53.3.4), a further goalkeeper on a short term Emergency Loan in accordance with the following provisions:”

From what I gather, unless Darlow picks up a knock, we are stuck with him.

  • 27 AncientC // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:32 PM

“Krul has been injured practically all season, the club CAN be blamed for having only 1 international keeper”

Jib, do you understand why I added the information of Krul being injured? I would rather not get into the English lessons, if that’s alright with you.

  • 28 Toon Tang // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:32 PM

    Gutting this Elliot story eh

    I’m also not digging Lallana

  • 29 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:43 PM

So thats Remi Garde been sacked at Villa !

No doubt they will get Pearson in and they will be trying 100% against us when we play them rather than lying down

  • 30 lochinvar // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:50 PM

Stoke have lost Butland in very similar and unnecessary circumstances and have the Mackems, Swansea and Palace to play .
Now we loose Elliot and have Swansea and Palace to play as well.
    Voodoo ?

  • 31 lochinvar // Mar 29, 2016 at 9:55 PM

If Pearson comes in and stirs up Villa then they will be care free when they play us but that could be good – they could be playing beach football and that would leave them open at the back and careless . Could leave them very vunerable to attack attack attack
