Taylor, Anita, Tiote And Cisse All Start At Norwich

Rafa Benitez has just announced the team for the game at Carrow Road this afternoon against 4th bottom Norwich City and Rafa has made some changes – in fact five changes in all.

Steven Taylor comes in for Lascelles and Anita starts at left back – with Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse also both in the starting line-up.

Karl Darlow replaces Rob Elliot in goal.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Karl Darlow; Daryl Janmaat, Chancel Mbemba, Steven Taylor, Vurnon Anita; Cheick Tiote, Jonjo Shelvey (c); Andros Townsend, Georginio Wijnaldum, Moussa Sissoko; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Jamie Sterry, Jamaal Lascelles, Siem de Jong, Ayoze Perez, Emmanuel Riviere, Aleksandar Mitrovic

Referee: Mike Dean

It’s Rafa’s familiar 4-2-3-1 formation and let’s hope Papiss Cisse is in goal-scoring form today – he can certainly hit the net when he’s in the mood – and Cheick Tiote will provide some steel in central midfield.

It looks like Gini Wijnaldum will play in the number 10 position behind Papiss Cisse and Rafa has again gone for experience over youth to try to win this game today at Carrow Road.

It’s a surprise that Mitrovic is on the bench, but maybe that has something to do with him being away on International duty?

This is what Rafa Benitez has said about the game today:

“We know we can do it,” “The reaction of the team after Sunderland was really positive and we have the right mentality to go to Norwich and win.”

“We’re giving the players confidence and trying to organize them so that they know what to do in these games.”

“In terms of commitment, the players have been fantastic and we have to make sure we approach the game with confidence so that we are prepared to win.”

“Norwich are an intense team,” “We have to concentrate and make sure we don’t make any mistakes because this game is so important for both teams.”

“Norwich are organised and they have a lot of players who know their jobs and their work rate is good. We will have to work hard from the first minute to the last.”

“I have had relegation experiences before in Spain with Extremadura so I know what it is like. We have to give everything in every game and I will not give up.”

“People are saying this game is a must win – we go there to win but we cannot lose focus on the remaining seven games because they are just as important.”

“We cannot lose confidence, we have to concentrate on one game at a time and keep going right until the end.”

Three fans in five think we can win this game today.

dont like the line up. i feeel like we need a finesse player like SDJ because they will be sitting 11 behind the ball the last three games. i would think sdj and mitro would be better. hopefully rafa knows best

Interesting after all the talking up of Mitrovic by Rafa. Seems he’s placing his faith in experience.

    FFS!

What does that shirker have to do in order to get dropped? Rattle rafa’s missus or what.

    It’s getting ridiculous now.

Go on moussa, prove me wrong. Doubt it but I’m praying.

    Bambams

Yeah, don’t get lascelles getting dropped, especially for thumper.

    Taco and Hail
I think Wijnaldum and Cissé will be instructed to run their socks off to tire their back 4 and the bring Mitro and SdJ as impact players onthe hour-ish.

Shame for Lascelles but Saylor offers more experience I suppose and will stick his face in front of a brick to stop a goal

Munster Mag is going to have a melt-down when he sees Sissoko is playing on the left again lol.

Mitro and Perez should be every effective coming off the bench.

If Gini still gets a start off the back of the last Norwich game why can’t Sissoko? 4 assists wasn’t it?

Crystal Palace are a ‘Head Scratcher’…..You sometimes get that one team that continues to drop like a stone.
We need to get 3 today….Put pressure back on the others that are looking over their shoulders

It looks like he has picked a side with the aim of getting the best out of Wijnaldum, with Tiote and Shelvey behind him he will be able to play almost like a second striker which is where he is best, lets hope he has got it right !

Taylor may stick his body on the line but he’s prone to giving a pen away with a silly foul or handball and in such a high pressure match that will be tight that could be the difference.

Make or break day for me today – lose and I think we’ve had it.
However if Rafa cannot get this lot playing a few percentage points better and give a bit more confidence then we/the team deserve to go down.
Hearing Wally saying we’ll take positives out of a loss wevery week must have worn thin with the players.
Hearing positive speak from Rafa surely must have more effect.
Whilst Nowrich have been playing OK – they have trouble scoring – so I think we might edge this on 2 -1 or 3 -1.
Still not convinced about Anita at FB but glad Mr T is back in the team.

True time will tell but Rafa knows what he’s doing, maybe he’s just trying to bring in competition Lescelles and Saylor are probably on par right now so why not get them fighting each other for a spot

Aston Villa should have been down in the championship long ago. Darren Bent kept them up for years.

Good Riddance to a mediocre side that adds nothing to the Premier League. I am sure Birmingham are looking forward to knocking the stuffing out of them next season.

Just think Rafa has come in and seen what I’ve been saying all season. Mitrovic is a dead weight away from home. Doen’t have the temperament and focus needed, has a lot more strops when away. St James gives him a boost more than most.

Should be a cracking game. Surprised by the lineup with the rest of you but think Rafa has a plan.

Wish I wasn’t on a plane where streaming is blocked by gogoinflight’s wifi. Anyone know how to get around it? I have a feeling it’s not possible, but would love to catch the first half while I’m up in the air praying that we are playing well and likely living off scraps of text.

Couple of divvies on earlier saying nuns wear black and white. Really, – seen plenty wearing blue and white, brown and white.
I suspect the divvies know more about a bottle of Blue Nun than they do about the clothing of the ckergy.
