Both Fabricio Coloccini and Paul Dummett have been training this week and both could be available for the game this afternoon at Southampton.
We are going to assume both will be fit and both will start at St. Mary´s today in a game we really have to win to start a winning run that could yet see us safe in the Premier League.
But that is also looking less and less likely with every game that passes us by that we don´t win.
The last time we won is back on February 6th – seven games ago – when we took West Brom apart 1-0 at home.
Fabricio Coloccini – could return today
Rafa Benitez has had to make do with an out of position player at left back over the last few games while Paul Dummett has been out with another hamstring injury and of course Sadio Haidara is out for the season with a knee injury and hasn´t played since last October.
Sadio has had another injury impacted season.
This is the side Rafa could start today:
Janmaat Coloccini(c) Mbemba Dummett
Sissoko Wijnaldum Townsend
Subs: Woodman Taylor Lascelles Anita de Jong Cisse Perez
Note there is no room there for Saivet, Doumbia and Riviere and we expect Colo to captain the side again.
Perez, de Jong or Cisse could also find their way into the starting eleven today.
Other changes to that side could see Taylor still in at center-back if Colo is not fit – and if Paul Dummett is not able to play who knows who Rafa will start at left back?
What is your side for today´s game.
Not many fans think we can win this game today and if we do lose again – that would be one point from the last seven games – it will be another nail in our coffin.
It will then look even more unlikely we can save ourselves from relegation this season.
