Is This Newcastle´s Strongest Side For Southampton?

7:52 am, Saturday, April 9th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 17 Comments

Both Fabricio Coloccini and Paul Dummett have been training this week and both could be available for the game this afternoon at Southampton.

We are going to assume both will be fit and both will start at St. Mary´s today in a game we really have to win to start a winning run that could yet see us safe in the Premier League.

But that is also looking less and less likely with every game that passes us by that we don´t win.

The last time we won is back on February 6th – seven games ago – when we took West Brom apart 1-0 at home.

Fabricio Coloccini – could return today

Rafa Benitez has had to make do with an out of position player at left back over the last few games while Paul Dummett has been out with another hamstring injury and of course Sadio Haidara is out for the season with a knee injury and hasn´t played since last October.

Sadio has had another injury impacted season.

This is the side Rafa could start today:

Darlow
Janmaat Coloccini(c) Mbemba Dummett
Coloccini Shelvey
Sissoko Wijnaldum Townsend
Mitrovic
Subs: Woodman Taylor Lascelles Anita de Jong Cisse Perez

Note there is no room there for Saivet, Doumbia and Riviere and we expect Colo to captain the side again.

Perez, de Jong or Cisse could also find their way into the starting eleven today.

Other changes to that side could see Taylor still in at center-back if Colo is not fit – and if Paul Dummett is not able to play who knows who Rafa will start at left back?

What is your side for today´s game.

Not many fans think we can win this game today and if we do lose again – that would be one point from the last seven games – it will be another nail in our coffin.

It will then look even more unlikely we can save ourselves from relegation this season.

    manxpie,
We did not get rid of Pardew he walked remember. If you mean the fans drove him out you would be correct but not for the reason you claimed. He was not hounded out in case he got us relegated but for his shite football and his willingness to lie and cosy up to his superiors. He was in an ideal position to force change after his double manager of the year but the greedy tw@t took an eight year deal instead.

Benitez will prob go with Taylor and Collo, “experience” and all that rubbish, experience in being consistently cr@p …..although they have played well together in the past (on the three games a season Taylor is fit).
We need to score more than 1 goal away from home, a very rare occurance in the last 3 seasons.
This may be the day we start the rollercoaster to survival spearheaded by Coco ,or the launch of the good ship procrastination on her way to the championship guided by the three wise monkeys.
I’m hoping for the former but expecting the latter……god help us all

“Mummy mummy mummy , what was February 6th like ?
    Is winning fun ?
    Is it legal ?
    Would I like it ?
What about Daddy, would it stop him crying ?
Perhaps I could try it some time ? ”

” when you’re older son, you need to be able to handle the truth first ”
” oh go on Mum, please , please , I promise I’ll be good ”
” oh alright then, stop wanging on about it ‘, you never know winning might be the making of you ”

    ” yippee ” !
    ” HWTL “
