Video – Jamaal Lascelles Truthful Interview After Latest Disaster

7:40 pm, Saturday, April 9th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 76 Comments

Jamaal Lascelles – at least somebody cares about that’s happening

Here is Jamaal Lascelles’ interview immediately after the game for BBC Sport.

Jamaal and Andros Townsend – who scored a fantastic goal today – were the only two Newcastle players who had the courage to come out and face the music after a really poor performance at St. Mary’s this afternoon.

Where were some of our more senior players?

u start – with the owner and his hired goons who have caused a stinking mess at our football club. It all starts with Mike Ashley and his bargain basement players who are bought cheap in the hope of being sold high for a quick buck, not for quality or ability. Add to that a dictatorial management who impose impossible constraints on the coaching staff who are supposed to work with these players and somehow mould them into a cohesive unit who would be capable of performing at a decent level in the premiership. So here we are teetering on the edge of relegation with a competent manager in Rafa Benitez and that’s it apart from Half a dozen decent players and millions of £’s of Ashley’s money and the shot nerves and pockets of Newcastle supporters laid waste. Lazy players who train but haven’t an ounce of guts to try on the pitch. I’m now inclined to think relegation will be the best outcome possible. A mass clear out of dross from the club, a new board and a quality manager in charge (hopefully Benitez) with money to rebuild and the only bonus in all this is that it is going to cost Mike Ashley a shit load of money. Happy days !

  • 2 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 9, 2016 at 7:49 PM

Holding back from really laying it raw as he stutters back through the media cliches. Shame it takes a 22-year old that came on at 2-0 down to front up, but then he seems upset unlike many of the others alluded to.

  • 3 Ron Knee // Apr 9, 2016 at 7:50 PM

I have no faith that Ashley would appoint competent people to replace Charmless and Carr.

  • 4 Jail for Ashley // Apr 9, 2016 at 7:51 PM

Fair play to the lad for facing the cameras but he’s absolutely thick as mince!

  • 5 welshgeordie9 // Apr 9, 2016 at 7:54 PM

And i suppose you would do a better job.

  • 6 Ron Knee // Apr 9, 2016 at 7:55 PM

    Lee Ryder:

“There was no sign of the man who effectively built the team (Carr) and you can only shudder to think what chief scout Graham Carr has got lined up for next season if this lot are anything to go by.”

  • 7 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 9, 2016 at 7:57 PM

JfA is imperious in his virtues, Welsh, you should know that by now.

  • 8 reilly // Apr 9, 2016 at 7:58 PM

lets hope with relegation ashley has had enough and sells for a knock down price.
wishful thinking i know.but something has to change.

And Taylor should move back to Phucking Sunderland as he plays like a Sunderland supporter trying to Phuck up our season.

  • 10 Jail for Ashley // Apr 9, 2016 at 8:00 PM

We can’t even hope that Ashley will get it right if we go down. The last time he was clueless, there was a firesale of players, the club was put up for sale??? and Chris Hughton, who incidentally is my favourite character bar KK and Shearer in Ashleys whole sorry reign was put in charge and lets face it, his spells as caretaker were absolutely woeful. So it was pure luck and the fact that the top earners couldn’t get more elsewhere that got us promoted last time. This time round nobody has a clue if Wijnaldum, Sissoko and Jaanmat etc have relegation buy out clauses and I doubt if anyone wants to pay them 40/60K a week, we could actually find ourselves stuck with their gutless attitudes down at Turf Moor next year.

  • 11 Toonacious T // Apr 9, 2016 at 8:02 PM

This is precisely the problem. Townsend and Lascelles are willing to come before the cameras but they are nice lads. They don’t come across as the type who would inspire you before you go into battle. We don’t have a single character who would make you feel backed up for a fight. The so called senior pros are gutless shirkers and the few with some heart are technically sub- standard. Recruitment has been done 100 times better by clubs like Southampton on a tight budget. Btw, to all the morons back in the summer saying Virgil Van Djik wasn’t good enough for us because he played at such a low level with Celtic, how dumb a statement was that. The man has played 33 consecutive games and is better than our entire defence combined. We need to wise up with our recruitment or we will definitely be ‘doing a Leeds’

  • 12 Sir Braveheart // Apr 9, 2016 at 8:14 PM

You can tell, at two pints especially, he wants to say more. He wants to call out those who aren’t trying their hardest, but he just stops himself.

    “I don’t know…”

Yes you do mate, you know full well there’s a bunch of spineless barstewards in that dressing room who aren’t good enough or aren’t up for a fight. And you want to call them out but that would only have a negative effect on the poor dears morale.

I like him. He says they need confidence but they shouldn’t as they’re grown men, he says it’s not good enough and he actually has the balls to come out and speak to the cameras. If he had a proper leader as captain this boy would be a good solid CB. Unfortunately in this team he’s being asked to be that strong CB when we forget he’s still just a kid, bought for development not for the first team.

  • 13 Sir Braveheart // Apr 9, 2016 at 8:16 PM

Lascelles has guts. He’ll be good for us next season in the championship if he’s given some good players around him.

  • 14 lesh // Apr 9, 2016 at 8:30 PM

It’s no surprise most of the players underperformed yet again.

They’re playing for a move out and their gutless performsnces’ll reduce any transfer fees – even though many of them have a reputation for being better than they’ve shown of late.

    Thank you Mr Ashley

  • 15 Average_Contents // Apr 9, 2016 at 8:34 PM

We’re ferked but to be honest we have been ever since they decided to spunk £80m with shteve in charge. A man who twice turned us down and got sacked from all his recent jobs in lesser leagues yet we had to persist and get our man. Shameful.

And no, it’s not hindsight. The writings been on the wall for years yet it wasn’t heeded.

Underinvestment year after year then bang, all in one go, the last throw of the dice so to speak with a washed up smirker in charge and it’s backfired spectacularly and as usual it’s us, the fans who suffer. Again.

    Fat fcuker out!

Boils my fcuking piss the horrible leech.

  • 16 beermonkey // Apr 9, 2016 at 8:57 PM

    where do we begin

every team squad at the club has a losing mentality
i cant see ashley selling up and i cant see him bringing some1 who can sort the club out

infact rafa aside i cant think of any1 that could come in and sort us out
all i can see is us going down then the club will batten down the hatches and try and save cash
any manager will be substandard second rate that wont cost much money
and the monkeys on the board will stay cos there cheap and cycle will repeat till we drop to league1

  • 17 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Apr 9, 2016 at 9:02 PM

Could be a blessing in disguise that Janmaat and Taylor will be “injured” for Swansea ! Montero would destroy Janmaat and Taylor would struggle to deal with Swansea’s movement Lascalles back in , Dummett left back and Anita at RB would be a much better option than Janmaat who has given up the ghost

Siem De Jong needs to start as well and possibly put Colback back in the middle at least he will run for 90 minutes hell even bring Obertan back in

I expect 5 or 6 changes against Swansea

  • 18 Blackley and Brownlie // Apr 9, 2016 at 9:02 PM

We’ve flirted with mediocrity and relegation most seasons and largely pished £80m up the wall this season. All very predictable, foreseeable and avoidable.

  • 20 awaydays // Apr 9, 2016 at 9:17 PM

Havent posted in a while but im quite positive usually but seriously what is this rubbish! Its a joke if we go down which could be a blessing if we come straight back an overhaul is needed
Ship out people like sissoko cisse tiote marveaux taylor colo
When i watch the team i constantly find myself screaming at sissoko he is quite possibly the worst player i have ever saw pull on our shirt hes an absolute joke … send him back to france he can rot away at a team like lille or bastia the good for nothing wannabee

  • 21 awaydays // Apr 9, 2016 at 9:21 PM

I think we need a good fresh new young squad
    Gk- darlow/krulor elliot
    Lb- a new one
    Rw- townsend
    Cm shelvey
    Lm aarons
    Cam- wijnaldum
    St mitrovic
    St perez

Bench armstrong and some new players because our squad is dreadful
I like our cbs in lascelles and mbemba but i think they need time

  • 24 lochinvar // Apr 9, 2016 at 9:26 PM

Does Carr attend any games or is he busy drinking tea at Club Mondial ?
Charnley was there today – bet he didn’t travel back on the supporters bus.
    Moncur presumably had gone fishing.
    Ashley was down the casino.
Wonga were busy borrowing another £25million to cover their debts ! Bet they’re paying less interest than the punters who have to borrow from them .
And the players thought it was a pre- Championship friendly .

Abject and dismal the lot of them.
Not fit to be associated with NUFC .

  • 25 giimps // Apr 9, 2016 at 9:27 PM

Welcome aboard Lee Charnleys good ship procrastination, sinking with a ripple, zero lifeboats left but there’s a couple of couple of good swimmers to pull the inflatable tyre….. All aboard lads we can still do it …. It’s either that or you have to play more games next year in the championship ……so what’s it going to be lads……..swim like you’ve never swam before or drown in your own pity party?

  • 26 NUFCPaul // Apr 9, 2016 at 9:31 PM

Some teams can handle having one or two gutless wonders in their squad, who get bailed out by the braver/more talented players, but our spineless mercenaries outnumber those who are genuinely willing to fight.

How anybody can have Janmaat in their team for next season is beyond me. After his ‘performance’ today I’d want him and Taylor out first. Good luck getting a new contract at another club next season Steven!

  • 27 giimps // Apr 9, 2016 at 9:31 PM

Do they realise they will have to come back early from their holidays too………although it’s probably why most of them are on the beach now .

  • 28 NUFCPaul // Apr 9, 2016 at 9:32 PM

Just occurred to me, Carr and Charnley will obviously offer Taylor a contract extension for next season. And probably for an increased salary too. Would that surprise anyone else?

  • 29 toon kk // Apr 9, 2016 at 9:34 PM

I’ve said we were sh.t for a long time, it’s taken a while but I think quite a few fans have just realised how poor we are.
Top eight! Ha! Never in a million years.

  • 30 U.S Magpie // Apr 9, 2016 at 10:24 PM

Its killing me this shower of euro shit we signed. They just don’t care and know that clubs will purchase them if we go down, you can see it in how they play no heart no guts.
How the flying phuck does Lee Charney still have a job, manager and world class ones get fird for less. Well Mike hows it feel to lose out on 100 plus million due to hiring someone that looks like they should be an accountant and knows nothing about football.

  • 31 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Apr 9, 2016 at 10:27 PM

Yet 52,000 will show up next season in the Championship and in League One if we ever got there and will cite “loyalty” as their reason for doing so.

Lascelles isn’t the only one who’s supposedly thick as mince.

  • 32 toon kk // Apr 9, 2016 at 10:34 PM

MA should have known better, you can’t run a club the way he has over the years without having serious consequences.

  • 33 martoon // Apr 9, 2016 at 10:36 PM

    Next seasons players.

Darlow, Elliot, Woodman, Sterry, Lascelles, Mbemba, Dummett, Saivet, Shelvey, Colback, Aarons, Townsend, Perez, Armstrong, Mitrovic.

Possibly keep De Jong and Bigi…..and Riviere. ah…thauvin, might as well give him a season in the championship.

Others Satka, Cameron, Gillesphey, Barlaser, Smith, Gilliead

Bye bye to this lot Wijnaldum, Sissoko. Coloccini, Taylor, Janmaat, Krul, Anita, Tiote, Obertan, Cisse, Marveaux, Haidara, Ameobi, Vuckic, Good

Go and sign players like Cook, Obita, Hause, Iorfa and Robertson

Time to rebuild and get young hungry players in.

  • 36 Sir Braveheart // Apr 9, 2016 at 10:56 PM

So if we’re making the (reasonable) assumption that were getting relegated, who would you choose to keep for the Championship and who would you want out? For me its:

    Maybe Shelvey

    Undecided about Mbemba

  • 37 Sir Braveheart // Apr 9, 2016 at 10:58 PM

    Also out

Forgotten about them they’ve been that useless

  • 38 jimiley // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:03 PM

NINE away games lost on the bounce. That must be another club record to go with all the other ignominious records in the Ashley era. I suppose the sheep will still be going next season, cheering on the “lads.” Wasters.

  • 39 jimmysmith // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:04 PM

Newcastle will pick up points at home. It’s not over, and only marginally worse than when he arrived. We remain in a three horse race with two other poor teams, with four home games to come with the crowd behind us, and another winnable game against Villa. We are in big trouble, but have been for some time.

  • 40 jimiley // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:06 PM

Whats happened to the Rafa boonce? I expected more. I expected better team selection than the same old stalwarts/stars who get a game but merely pull on the shirt. Where is the effort? Rafa has to take some of the blame. The team is demotivated.

  • 41 U.S Magpie // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:08 PM

Sorry but if we manage to get out of this mess and I don’t know how, stay in the prem I will be contacting Vegas and getting the whole team out here. The show will be called The Greatest Ever Ever magician trick Ever. Harry Houdini could not get out of this but the show will make millions, no Mike your not invited to be an investor.

  • 42 Jail for Ashley // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:10 PM

I expected a whole lot more from the Rafa bounce, what I hadn’t fogured was that Jaanmat, Sissoko etc really fcukin hated us and wanted out asap regardless of how

  • 43 Blackley and Brownlie // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:12 PM

Keystone cops comedy capers! And that second goal. All the way from a shite Shelvey attempted cross. Swansea saw Carr crash coming with Shelvey. Bloody hopeless. We’re damned lucky WBA didn’t see Carr crash coming when he wanted to blow £20m plus on Berahino.

  • 44 Average_Contents // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:14 PM

Sad state of affairs my friend.

First time ever I think that I’ve not watched a match when I’ve had the chance.

That’s how bad it is for me at the moment.

No pride anymore in saying I support the toon. That’s been drained away. Much like anything attached to nufc at the moment, none existent. Hollow shell.

One man has managed to alienate an entire fanbase in the space of 9 years through pure not giving a fcuk greed and putting other things before football.

    That’s some fcuking achievement that.

    Fat cnut out!

  • 45 Blackley and Brownlie // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:15 PM

No club needs a supporter like Ruddy.

  • 46 jimiley // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:16 PM

Well if you can see it, then Rafa should be dropping them. It is one of my points about the manager picking the same players regardless of form or effort. Picking on reputation but theirs is shot anyway.

  • 47 geordie157 // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:19 PM

I really don’t understand why lascelles got dropped for Taylor who has been bloody awful since returning from his latest injury.

Okay sterry right back….janmaat is a waste of space. And sissoko is undropable…he’s been awful since the bad run started last season.

  • 48 Jail for Ashley // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:23 PM

I think you’re very wrong there about 52K, they are selling ST and premium tickets at rock bottom to get those figures back up, thousands more will chuck ST’s next year and they haven’t got a hope in hells chance of selling level 7 tickets for £15 against MK Dons if they’re selling PL tickets in the sports bar gor the same. Unless there is serious change in the set up this is the beginning of the end of Ashleys insidious regime.

  • 49 Sir Braveheart // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:27 PM

The championship doesn’t appear to have a lot of quality. Fight maybe, but little quality. If we can keep a few of our good players and supplement the team with some fighters then we’ll walk that league.

    Biggest summer ever coming up.

  • 50 Jail for Ashley // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:29 PM

Who is there to play, Beardsley has his core of youngsters playing so fcuking poorly as he did the season before that not one of them can step up to the plate not expecting to concede less than two goals. I listened to Ando after the game and people calling in. People saying we should give the young uns a chance, they clearly haven’t sèn their -minus GD!

  • 51 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:30 PM

I stated on here when I saw the team when I saw Taylor picked again that we would struggle – the guy is shite, reminds me of the Angel of the North – big, rusty, stands still with arms outstretched. Disappointed in Benitez in picking Taylor before Lascalles who with a handful of games is miles better than Taylor.

The club stinks bring any manager in and I don;t think you will get a team out of the shite at the club

  • 52 Blackley and Brownlie // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:30 PM

Ino August I couldn’t predict relegation because I didn’t know who we’d buy in January. However I did say
Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 31, 2015 at 3:43 PM

You need look no further than the Northampton game to see what Perez is like in front of goal. You don’t have to be a big, lumbering oaf like Mitrovic to be a target man. In fact, Aguerro is much more a target man than Mitro. A target man to me is your natural goalscorer, the man that your whole attacking game plan revolves around, the man whom you look to feed in the way he wants to be fed. I look at Mitro and think he looks like a guy who gets headers. As yet, I can’t see any other aspect to his game. It will be fascinating to see how this pans out. Unless we get a top striker, we’re destined for lower half mediocrity or worse.

  • 53 Jail for Ashley // Apr 9, 2016 at 11:37 PM

I’ve only ever defended Ashley from any unfair and unfounded criticism. I think Ashley has done some good things financially while making the football affordable for fans. I’ve criticised him massively on the footballing side and long felt that, if he allowed the Board to spend big time on players, they’d waste it. The blame for this debacle falls squarely at his door. Nobody else’s.

Clutching at straws here but come on Leicester
If they can win then at least no one has gained any points on us .
Goal dif bigger but that’s so abysmal we were never going to get close to those around us anyway.
Honestly did anyone think we would get anything at Southampton?
Even in the mid nighties we often saved our worst performances off down there .
Taylor needs to be never seen in the shirt again .
And please no more of this ” the lads are hurting in the dressing room ” type of shite. They are just words .
Most are prob on to their agents this morning getting updates if anyone is deluded enough to want them.
At least at home none of them can hide.
Still believe if Sunderland loose we have hope although it will be totally undeserving if we stay up after watching yesterday

  • 64 NewcastleMole // Apr 10, 2016 at 12:56 AM

Firesale at the end of the Season

Sissoko, Janmaat, Wijnaldum running out the door.

DeJong, Perez, Mitrovic, Krul will be having words with their agents.

Club will look to offload Thauvin, Cabella, Tiote, Cisse, Coloccini, Marvauex

Shelvey, Townsend & Saivet are stuck with us until at least January due to Fifa rules.

    So that leaves
    GK: Elliot, Darlow
    LB: Dummet, Hidara
    CB: Taylor, Lacelles, Mbemba, Mbabu
    LM: Townsend, Ameobi, Goufran, Aarons
CM: Shelvey, Anita, Colback, Saivet, Vuckic, Bigirimana
    RM: Obertan,
    ST: Armstrong, Riviere, Toney

  • 65 Blofal // Apr 10, 2016 at 1:12 AM

  • 68 Blofal // Apr 10, 2016 at 1:18 AM

    Newcastle Mole..

Townsend has an $8m relegation clause in his contract so he will be going in Jan.

Saivet was captain at Bordeaux before coming here and one of their best players. He isn’t going to want to stay and play in the championship and will go first chance he gets.

Ameobi has failed on loan and won’t get his contract extended.

Obertans contract is up and won’t be renewed.. too injury prone.

Bigi has failed on loan and will be offloaded. Not good enough for the championship it seems.

Gouffran will be sold if we can get rid of him.

Doesn’t leave much of a team!

  • 69 SPRINGY // Apr 10, 2016 at 1:19 AM

he deserved that, should’nt of started, lascelles must of been pissed off sittin on the bench watcin that clueless eejit making a prick of himself and the club…but its not just him ,mbabu is still injured so doubt he’ll be playing for a week or two

  • 70 SPRINGY // Apr 10, 2016 at 1:24 AM

obertan, taylor, marveaux, aarons, mbabu, woodman and doumbia could all leave in the summer end of contracts or loan.
krul, goofy, cisse, tiote, rivierre, anita and colo are out of contract in 2017(colo has extension clause to 2018) so the club may try to cash in thsi summer

It’s been a few days since the Club announced a profit of something like £34m and not a sign of any praise for our glorious leader and his indispensable MD, Lee Charnley for proving that profit comes at a cost.

The rot had really set in a few years ago and was further deepened by the Club’s failure to strengthen the team in key areas and in the meantime buy players who’ve proved to be woefully inadequate.

So, the Club’ll announce a healthy profit for 2015-2016 but where will be this time next year?

We’ll be singing the praises of Charnley for his vision in providing some funds to ease the burden of the Championship.

Taylor was probably kept off at half time.

If you watched MotD and looked very closely, you could see what Rafa was writing on his pad after each goal. It clearly referred to Taylor and being a slow writer, you could see him spell it out……. T..w..a..t!

if hull dont get promotion we should try and sign robertson to fill the left back spot, looks an decent player, quick, fairly strong even though he doe’snt look it with an eye for goal and vision to see a pass.

its embarassing to see the villa and bournemouth game. villa players put in more effort in that game than our sorry lads against S’oton.

    its so embarassing and sad.

Players don’t give 100% effort for owner with 0% ambition. Fact.
