Former Superstar Sad With Newcastle’s Lack Of Caring

6:47 am, Sunday, April 10th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 165 Comments

Former star striker Tino Asprilla is like the rest of us and very upset at the way our players performed yesterday at Southampton when too many of them didn’t seem to care.

Those same players will be the ones clamoring to get out of the club just as soon as possible once the season ends and we are a Championship club.

Asprilla also takes a swipe at the club itself and says they don’t seem to care either.

Time you put another button in your vote best player – no-one
As after that display I struggle to pick a player out.

Lascalles maybe for speaking the truth.

Wonder what odds the bookies will give for Rafa – not getting a win – odds on.
And he won’t if he keeps selecting Taylor and Janmaat – shi* defenders

  • 2 The overrated Frenchman // Apr 10, 2016 at 7:20 AM

The longer players stay at this club, the worse they seem to get. It’s like a curse.

  • 3 Ron Knee // Apr 10, 2016 at 7:38 AM

As somebody posted yesterday, it’s the culture at SJP that’s rotten. Players come to NUFC thinking they’ve joined a football club only to find it’s a branch of Sh*t Direct.

  • 4 Lindisfarne // Apr 10, 2016 at 7:54 AM

A very sad first half performance that I nearly did not return for the second. Was happy to see an improvement, with some excellent interchanges, brisk passing, determination to get forward. The defence was helped by the fact they dropped off, but they also counter attacked well.

I thought Townsends goal was an individual marker and could have been a platform to build from. But no the team became mediocre again and struggled to get any more efforts on target, three the whole match!!!

Apart from the obvious players filling in and not their usual positions, the team lacks any cohesion and balance. De Jong in the centre made things flow better than Wijnaldum and Shelvey is not a defensive midfielder so the back line lacks protection.

The whole set up is a mess throughout all the playing squads and being a coach at Nufc must either be like hitting your head against a brick wall, or a resignation to inadequacy.

  • 5 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:14 AM

Would you suggest I make a Rafa out bedsheet to take to the Swansea game. Just to let the rest of the country know that we don’t ghink he’s good enough for our high flying club.

  • 6 Lindisfarne // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:14 AM

Aldo, you don’t need Tony Pulis to play four Central Defenders and Full backs as Wingers. A solid back line of four with an organised midfield, it just needs to be drilled into players and to attack space. Not very difficult concepts unless your the type of player that believes that success is provided by individual brilliance.

  • 7 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:20 AM

Munster who’s been banging the Carr drum for years now (did he mention that) and now Cyprus are saying that Carver and Mclaren would have been better than Rafa. We this whole situation has been engineered by managers who were so desperate for a job they were willing to let that absolute joke of a board make the footballing decisions who in turn were put together by a tat shop owner trying to force his unworkable way of running a football club.

  • 8 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:23 AM

Mclaren was so desperate for a job he just grinned inanely when they told him we didn’t need to strengthen a regular -20 defence. Who fcukin decided that.

  • 9 hibbitt // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:30 AM

ashley and his arse lickers OUT……. no doubt in my mind who’s to blame

  • 10 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:30 AM

Anita and Sissoko as full backs, people ringing BBC Newcastle yesterday saying we should play the kids in defence. Do they realise that under Beardsley they are used to even more 3+ hidings than their hapless counterparts.

  • 11 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:31 AM

Nothing from bills son on our best ever owner by the way.

  • 12 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:33 AM

We need to win every home game and Villa away to stand a chance of avoiding the drop. Five out of six wins.

  • 13 Sir Braveheart // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:36 AM

I have come to a place of accepting our fate. The three worst teams at the end of a 38 game season go down. I can’t argue that we are amongst the three worst teams this year along with Villa and Sunderland (take Defoe out the equation and Sunderland would be where Villa are).

Having accepted our fate I now feel a sense of excitement about next season.

Had we survived wed have made a couple of mediocre additions to a rotten squad, we’d be flirting with mid table at best and enduring the same gutless performances from the same over paid over hyped players like Sissoko.

Now though whether we like it or not there has to be wholesale changes. We’ll lose four players at least through the end of their contracts. We’ll lose at least four more who will leave for clubs in the top leagues. Hopefully the likes of Thauvin, Cisse, Coloccini and Tiote will be shipped out too.

Next year we’re looking at a new manager, new players and a lower standard of football from our opposition. When was the last time you saw Newcastle boss a game? Even the victory over Norwich earlier in the season where we scored six we could easily have conceded seven. As bad as it is that we’re doing it in a lower league, I’m looking forward to seeing a Newcastle side playing well and taking the game to teams. That’s something that we wouldn’t see if we survived in the premier league.

The squad is full of dead wood, relegation clears the decks and allows for a new start. And to me that’s more exciting than surviving by the skin of our teeth and having another year of mediocrity.

    Bring it on!!

    Jail for Ashley

how can any one in there right mind defend him……. ashley out

  • 15 expatmag // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:38 AM

Regarding the last post, I have been told that the new nanager next year is Mark Warburton from Rangers.

Already agreed, so I am told

  • 16 Ron Knee // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:40 AM

    Sir B

Re the ‘new manager’ you mention. Who will appoint him?

  • 17 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:43 AM

Who would even have that info, Charnley hasn’t even got a clue what day it is.

  • 18 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:55 AM

People blamed our over paid mercenaries last time we went down yet KK had them playing well in the end. Ashley was applauded for not buying over priced superstars yet here we are facing yet another relegation. Whether it be cancelling goal bonuses etc there is something seriously wrong behind the scenes that has this collective lack of effort from several different groups of players. Every time Ashley has stumbled upon even a hint of success he has decided that it’s the wrong way to do things and dismantled it.

  • 19 The overrated Frenchman // Apr 10, 2016 at 8:59 AM

expat@15 – that story is certainly being talked about amongst Rangers fans, whether it’s just speculation who knows.

  • 20 Sir Braveheart // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:00 AM

    @Ron Knee

I’ve become used to the likes of McClaren, Carver, Kinnear under this stewardship…in reality are we likely to get worse than those three?

So my expectations are low. We’re not going to get a top level manager, but I doubt we’ll have much worse than what we’ve had to stomach in recent years.

  • 21 expatmag // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:03 AM

Could there be much worse? I think we’re about to find out!

  • 24 SPRINGY // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:13 AM

    morning all
another day in paradise, that is being a toon supporter….question?…
    will charnley survive this summer?

  • 25 LocalZero // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:13 AM

It’s not that long ago this website had links for ‘in Carr we trust’ t-shirts. Hard to blame Ashley for trusting him too in that context. This ‘top to bottom’ stuff is wrong for me but it’s obvious the system hasn’t worked and that charnley and Carr have messed up. Absolute disaster getting relegated, especially as the finances will be hit hard given what we spent this season. I hope Ashley is prepared to keep us afloat long enough to come back. I guess he’ll have to if he wants any return on his asset.

  • 26 SPRINGY // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:14 AM

if he does, what will he bring next year?
if he does’nt,who will ashley bring in to sort this shite out?

  • 27 Tsunki // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:14 AM

I think Ashley will probably start cutting his losses, rake the parachute payments in, big push to offer the season tickets and get that money up front. The sponsors will be getting jittery and whoever they a replaced by won’t be be generous. I give Ashley one season in the championship, if we aren’t promoted he’ll carve up and bale out. Then we’ll have to see how good this club can be at surviving the championship for a few years like Leeds.

We bounced last time after relegation, this bounce will be smaller, too small to be promoted this time I feel.

  • 28 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:17 AM

Before we even think about a new manager there has to be a complete clear out of that shambolic board. They’ve been put in place because Ashley trusts them yet they’ve just spunked 80M+ and got us relegated. Surely it would have been better off in the hands of experts he didn’t trust.

  • 29 LocalZero // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:21 AM

I don’t think he was joking when Ashley said ‘he’s stuck with newcastle’. Nobody wants to buy it for anywhere near what he’s put in (he’s tried how many times?) and the price isn’t getting any higher these days. He’s also too proud to lose that badly.

  • 30 toon22 // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:21 AM

Last time we went down the team was far far better,we had a core of players who strolled through the league.
Looking at our current team i only see Mitro,Lacells,Elliot and Townsend, maybe one or two more in the entire squad.
We aint coming back up this time, maybe if that gets rid of MA its worth it.

  • 31 Rotonda heights // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:22 AM

you need your head surgically removed from your proverbial. Constant slagging off of benitez after 4 games is a joke.

  • 32 SPRINGY // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:23 AM

i wonder what sort of bid ashley would except now for the club…would he take a loss to bail?

  • 33 scout // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:24 AM

I cant believe how bad we are. The 11 players are a joke, no bookings? Really fighting for the cause. It was pathetic, I normally watch local football and you see people trying Newcastle do not try its that simple.

I would feel fxxxing embarrassed to pick up the money you spineless tossers.

  • 34 scout // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:26 AM

Anyone slagging the manager off is a clown. He’s dealing with two bob clowns that cant string two passes together.
    Non triers, all them.

  • 35 LocalZero // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:29 AM

I think Ashley’s fantasy is selling for a profit after ‘winning something’ so he gets a bit of redemption. So far in life he’s got where he wants because he’s stubborn and driven to prove himself. I think losing is embarrassing for him. I actually think he could be a good owner if only he could find the right people to surround himself with. Chris Mort seemed decent but maybe it’s time to poach someone with actual experience from another club.

  • 36 NezzaNUFC // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:32 AM

We won’t get hit financially considering 30+million in profit +sales from players.

It’s enough to rebuild the squad in the championship starting with Hughes and Ince.

    Sir Braveheart

Iv’e said the same for days for us to rebuild in the championship which is probably why I feel more optimistic now that we are getting relegated rather than fighting to stay in the premier league.

Guy’s honestly the Championship is somewhat a godsend for us, but before that we need to voice our concerns to Carr and Charnley and get them out ASAP!

  • 37 SPRINGY // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:34 AM

the players are not good enough, and playing with no confidence is like a double whammy….that 1st goal yesterday was nothing short of pathetic and spineless, but its been there for years whether at the start of the 1st half or the start of the 2nd,they always start slow, just lack the intelligence to know that from whistle the opposition can score and be sharp enough and prepared for that fact…its ridiculous tbh…..roll on swansea…heres hoping.

  • 40 SPRINGY // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:45 AM

    local zero
he just seems to make bad decision after bad,but there is so much to sort out right thru from top to bottom, i wonder if there was a bid put in he might take it and wash his hands of the whole thing….there is a lot to sort out, coaches, managers, scouts, facilities, senior transfers, under 21’s,youth,the board…so much and a lot of work tobe done and significant investment at all levels other wise its just painting over the cracks.

  • 41 NezzaNUFC // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:48 AM

Probably why we will be in the Championship for a few years (2-3 max)

No harm in building a team for the premier league.

And the best thing about this though is we get to watch Sunderland crumble even further down lol

  • 42 SPRINGY // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:48 AM

karanka walked away the boro players after a few bad games when they had been top most of the season, our players would have him ripping his hair out and walking before he finished his first game!lol

  • 43 benjohnsen // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:49 AM

Why do people compare Newcastle with Leeds and Portsmouth? We have our financials in order compared to when for example Leeds down.

The reason we are in this mess is indirectly Ashley as he has appointed the wrong people. The people I blame directly is Charnley and Carr. Since they got the responsibility of running the day to day activities of this club we have gone downhill. I believe that was after 2012 season.

Our defence over the last three seasons has been the worst defence in the league. Have we strengthen it. Nope. We actually weakened it. Says it all.

  • 44 NezzaNUFC // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:49 AM

Newcastle have the ability like last time to come straight up (but we shouldn’t)

Sunderland on the other hand could fade away!

  • 45 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:53 AM

Well said, some people are never happy. If we’d got Pearson we’d be stuck with him in the PL if he did keep us up and just more of the same. I’m praying we stay up but I’m also hoping that if we do go down this is the beginning of the end for Ashley. Ruddy last night saying there’ll be 52K there next year. Not a hope unless there are top people in charge and we’re topping the league.

  • 46 NezzaNUFC // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:53 AM

If Karanka was giving a role to rebuild Newcastle from scratch, I think he would be here long time + our remaining players would be gone anyway so it’s save to say his hair will still be in contact of his scalp lol

Many managers now see Newcastle as the next step to create their own history and build Newcastle into a great club, but the real question is who do we want?

    I’ll go for

    1 – Cathro
    2 – Karanka
    3 – Laudrup

  • 47 magscar // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:54 AM

Seeing mention of Warburton by Expat if there is truth in it could it be part of the expected restructuring?
At Brentford he did hold the role of Sporting Director and dealt with players contracts etc before becoming Manager. Given Rangers promotion I find it odd that he would want to swap the SPL for sorting out the mess we are in on and off pitch but there maybe some sort of hybrid job dreamed up by Ashley that appeals ?

As Benitez is on a 3 year deal albeit with a get out when would discussions have taken place and who with – seems odd to me

  • 48 hibbitt // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:56 AM

not a chance with this squad we dont even know who the manager will be !!!!

  • 49 jayphoto // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:56 AM

Reckon rafa will want to stay even if we go down, but i bet the club will cut ties like they did with Shearer!
Pulis will never get the nufc job. He is far too headstrong, and also we have zero players that could play in a Pulis side, we’d need someone that could use the likes of arma, perez. Reckon saivet, townsend and shelvey will all stay too, possibly Thauvin as no one will take him for much and by his interviews in france hes focused on coming back
Wouldn’t shock me to see Bruce or Pulis rock up at Villa.
Warburton i remember was talked about when pardew left. Could see it happening and wouldn’t be a bad shout. Pearson similarly. Knowing our luck itl be neil warnock…

  • 50 SPRINGY // Apr 10, 2016 at 9:58 AM

  • 54 Slank // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:05 AM

    Nezza @ 44

Newcastle have the abilities to remain in the Premiership but what they haven’t got is confidence and belief. They look like Villa.

If Newcastle get relegated there is no guarantee that many of the current squad will be with us next season.

Also, the history of the Championship is that clubs recently relegated from the Premiership are rarely automatically promoted so I wouldn’t pin your hopes on a repeat.

  • 55 hibbitt // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:05 AM

Karanka going to leave a prem club to manage us give ya head a shake
Cathro what have you seen to say he could do the job ?
Laudrup jury’s still out very poor management style off the pitch

  • 56 magscar // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:08 AM

As highly as some on here hold Hughton it should not be forgotten that the bounce last time we were relegated was in no small part due to the unofficial players committee with the likes of Nolan, Smith, Harper Barton etc and the sorting out within the dressing room.

Where are those characters in current team – Lascelles?

The restructuring required in club whether we stay up or go down is a massive concern.
The decisions that will need to be made in sorting out Board ( if Ashley stays – which I expect for at least 1 season) is paramount and the rest will stem from that one way or the other. Get that wrong again and meltdown may not be too strong a word

  • 57 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:08 AM

I think when people say doing a Leeds or Portsmouth they mean a quick decline to the lower divisions. Our financials aren’t that secure either, we owe Mike Ashley 130M which if he decides to call it in could leave us bankrupt. I’m no expert on the whole thing but the only saving grace is that he would harm his investment but he really is in between a rock and a hard place now. If he doesn’t lend the club more money to come back up he loses. If he decides to lend the vlub money how does he possibly go about getting it back. He might well decide that after all the free advertising monies cleverly siphoned and a firesale while collecting the parachute payments that it’s time to bankrupt us afterall.

  • 58 Slank // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:09 AM

  • 59 Munster Mag // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:09 AM

Jail you lying prick when did i say carver etc was better than benitez? When?? Of course i pointed out carr when muppets like u defended him. Rafa has had zero effect and i have pointed this out, again correctly. But i never compared him to carver. Im delighted smc is gone aswell.

  • 60 jayphoto // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:11 AM

Think wed be certain to come back up. Even if you sell 11 players, and bought no1 in the side would still compete in the level below. Players like Darlow, Lascelles, Dummett, Colback, Saivet, Riviere go from players that are below average in the PL to players that would walk into most championship teams.
Add in Townsend and shelvey who’d potentially be the best players in the league , Aarons, Armstrong, Perez, mbabu, Haidara, ameobi, woodman and you’ve got the basis of a squad. Throw into that Good if he can stay fit and some solid championship players like Richard Keogh, maybe a couple loan signings and the talents there. Only downside is last time we had smith, barton, shola , carroll and nolan who were leaders. Think they’d need to bring a couple in of that ilk
Jeff Henderick, Richard keogh and chris martin from derby would give us leadership and necessary championship experience

  • 61 Slank // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:12 AM

  • 63 Slank // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:18 AM

    Jay @ 60

The history books of the Championship in who gets promoted is not necessarily based on which team has the best players or the stature of the club itself.

As I have already said, I wouldn’t start building your hopes up of an instant return should we get relegated especially when many, if not most on this blog myself included, didn’t see us being in the bottom three virtually all season.

  • 64 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:21 AM

Why should he? Because if he doesn’t we’ll be stuck in the Championship for awhile unless he sells up.

  • 65 magscar // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:22 AM

I often agree with your take but I believe that the circumstances surrounding Benitez contract coupled with 4 th or 5 th choices at LB in the worst PL defence compounded by a fragility of confidence make it very difficult for him to turn around in 4 games. Right choice wrong time?

I do wonder why he makes some choices e.g. no defensive midfielder given the back 4 we suffer but perhaps that says more about those he has on offer and their mindsets/fitness !evels?

It is clear that Shelvey needs the right player alongside him in a 4231 and Gini isn’t it especially away from home!

Will be interesting if he has some further players available from next weekend whether he carries our his threat to look at team changes. At the very least he needs to tear several players the proverbial and force a reaction from them!

  • 66 Magpie Season // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:23 AM

To the so many people having Townsend in their team for the championship next season:

Magscar i agree. I dont have anything against rafa. The players dont care, or at least the key ones dont. But some of his decisions have been odd. Until now people here overreacted if i criticised him which is crazy. He certainly seems unable to motivate them though and we may have needed a personality rather than a tactician at this point. I would be putting out the word to Pearson now for next season. maybe a win will calvanise us and at least norwich lost.

    Cyprus and the other slaggers.

You get in a top class manager to a club where 5th place is an accidental overachievement and 10th place is the pinnacle of success, and give him a choice of half decent players who are either injured, lacking confidence, unmotivated and/or disinterested, and then mid level Championship standard squad players as alternatives to first choice 11 players and then wonder why he hasn’t waved a magic wand ?

    Get real.
It isn’t Rafa who is the problem here but the legacy of the last 7-8 years.
For starters, the entire Board needs to go, survival or not – Carr, Charmless, Moncur.

The words ‘logic’ and ‘Ashley’ don’t always appear in the same sentence as we have found in the past.

He might have the view, not unreasonably that he has already given the money now make it work. It’s a ‘put up or shut up’ situation.

  • 75 JamesToon // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:49 AM

When we go down I just don’t think we’ll come straight back up even if we do buy some leaders.

    Managerial options:
Cathro-could go either really well or really bad due to his lack of experience or he could work out for us like hughton did

Karanka-won’t come if boro get promoted not sure some people on here would want him anyway as he has a tendency to just aim to keep clean sheets

Warburton-again don’t think he’ll swap the spl for us, played very good football at Brentford

Rodgers-unlikely whether he’d come in sure there’s still a prem job he could get but would take him in a heartbeat

Laudrup-with the issues he had off the pitch at Swansea not sure he’ll ever come back to England to coach again seems too lazy

That’s all I can think of that I wouldn’t mind too much if they did get the job. Worst nightmare would be someone like Bruce or Warnock getting the job

There were a minority on this blog but also some professional pundits who said that Rafa was not the right man for Newcastle in its predicament as his weakness was motorvation abilities.

As a group the players, with few exceptions, are rock bottom on confidence and motorvation.

We shall see in the remaining games whether he has acquired the ability to motorvate the players before it is too late.

  • 78 lesh // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:54 AM

The link with Pulis doesn’t come as any surprise.

Rafa’ll either walk or be deemed too expensive and have ideas far bigger than Ashley’s aspirations.

If Ashley does conduct a full review oc the Club, he’ll likely retain the clowns that have done his bidding and run the Club into the ground. He’ll not sack Charnley as Charnley’s been nothing more than his hands on the ground. Charnley and Carr could be made scapegoats but the likely scenario is Llambias coming back as MD and Charnley retained in some other capacity – a door stop perhaps?

Ashley’s model has been an abject failure but he’s hardly likely to change it, dump it – that would be an admission of failure on his behalf.

He’s virtually destroyed the Club and its reputation for ambition set at zero.

Ne’er mind, he turned in a profit for 2014-15 as there will be another one announced this time next year. Yes, Charnley’s done a great job in sacrificing success on the field for profit but with relegation highly likely, the Club’s finances will be squeezed to the extent that a quick return to the Prem will be impossible.

I remember the day when Ashley bought the Club and the day Keegan’s second coming as Manager – the feeling of hope for the Club so great. And a short few years later, he’s brought it to its knees, ripped the heart out of it.

    Sad, how bloody sad.

    Magpie Season

Yes I knew Colback was back after suspension but was wondering if others such as Mbabu or Dummet could figure?

Think he will play Colbeck perhaps alongside Shelvey but whilst an improvement on Gini in that role is still a concern with his pulling back and silly free kicks. If we didn’t give so many away perhaps the back 4 could perform a little better.

I think he needs to look hard at those players who are regarded as our better players (they certainly think so) and drop them on their performances. I see that he has considered that but probably had to go with what he has and who can give more details han 30 mins but he must be pro-active now and if certain players start again not be afraid to sub them and warn them he will.

Like McClaren I think he is falling into the trap oflaying his supposedly best and experienced 11 but not necessarily best team to try and stay in games and to recover if behind. That has been failing spectacularly but he keeps thinking it worth another try. Not sure that he is now realising the error in what looks to be a common managerial ploy in difficulties but even with tactical adjustments hasn’t fixed the confidence and inabilty to work at following instructions.

Unfortunately the rot has set in and I don’t know what De Canio, Poyet and Advocaat done to the mackems that Rafa can’t do here, his CV is better than the three of them put together. As I’ve said before, none of us know what are in these assembled bunch of mercenaries contracts regarding relegation. If we did it might explain why none of them actually give a fcuk.

  • 86 Billythefish // Apr 10, 2016 at 11:32 AM

    What an embarrassment yesterday was.
It was plain for everyone to see we are a shambles. Rafa is the best we could ever hope for, it’s such a shame and disgrace that we are now been linked with Tony Fkn Pullis. Half the team have no desire or heart for a fight, the other half just ain’t good enough. the blame lies with chump Charmley and the fool G Carr. Ashley is not blameless either of these two were directors of SD they would have been sacked years ago. Inept from top to bottom, what an absolute disgrace our club has become, for all Shepherds faults we were never this poor, at least he had the balls to sack non performers. I still have hope for a miracle because I support Newcastle United.

  • 87 magscar // Apr 10, 2016 at 11:32 AM

Contracts are one thing but as pundits keep repeating these are “professional” mercenaries. Surely scouts watching them from the so-called CL sides will be relaying concerns at their attitude issues. It should concern all scouts come to think of it!

I mentioned on here a few weeks ago that whilst speaking to a person who would know, at the training ground that Janmaat was trying to get a move to Juventus.
To be totally honest the bloke must have ideas of grandeur! But it does show he along with (in my opinion ) Sissoko, Wini, Haidara, Perez, Riviere will all have signed with the endorsement from Penfold that if they do well and as long as there is a profit – they will be sold.
I like Perez but he hasn’t done anything in the last 3-4 games and he doesn’t score enough. We don’t have the luxury of having potential all the time.
Elliott Mbemba Lascelles Mitro Townsend are in my opinion players who have earned their wages –
Shelvey I thought would do well but….unless he is another looking for a move !
No more Janmaat please and keep Taylor away from the team sheet

If Ashley wants to come back up (if we go down) and retain a sizeable fan base then keeping his dream team or parachuting Llambias in seems a gamble even he would see as suicide! He must throw away his blueprint.

Interestingly I was perhaps one of the few unimpressed with Ashley’s take over or his liaisons with fans in his early days. Never having heard of him and without an apparent allegiance to NUFC or football didn’t fill me with confidence. Never saw what was to come though but tried in my usual way as with managers to give him a chance.

On KK I loved his first time here – the best football in my lifetime with not even SBR matching it overall. However I wasn’t pleased when he left (running away?) and his later abandoning ship at England and other clubs left me chastened. His second coming felt like appeasement to fans but like Shearer he was another King across the water that I suppose had to be purged. Not surprised that he walked again notwithstanding the provocation but couldn’t he have tried to fight from within than leave us then. Not looking back with rose tinted glasses hypnotised by his first spell here leads me to thinking he wasn’t up to the fight and got out whilst he still had a case for constructive dismissal. His call I know and respect his decision but not for canonising him over it.

  • 99 Newcastle for alltid // Apr 10, 2016 at 11:56 AM

Yesterday was the first time in years that I haven`t made an effort to watch the game. When the games aren`t selected for broadcast on Norwegian TV, I usually try hard to find a working stream.

But yesterday I found myself not wanting to watch the game at all. Just thinking about it made me feel sick. The last couple of weeks have been to completely negative in terms of the players` mentality, work-rate and general attitude that I just didn`t feel like spending 90 minutes to watch even more of it.
There`s always the same mid-week-talk from the players that “now is the time to perform”, “we haven`t been good enough, so we`re rolling up our sleeves this weekend”, blablabla, but come the weekend it`s the same old poor football. No belief at all.

I was kinda hoping for an unexpected win, that I would look up the result after the game and find a heroic away-game result. But no, it turns out we get excactly what we expect with this bunch. I`ve never turned down the opportunity to watch Newcastle before, but now it`s just an ordeal.

I will keep on supporting Newcastle until the day I die, but watching them nowadays just hurts me. At least we`ll win a couple of games in the Championship, so if that`s the level of these players, so be it – we belong there then. But we won`t go straight up again this time.

  • 107 Rotonda heights // Apr 10, 2016 at 12:16 PM

I think Carr must be squirming very uncomfortably. At least I’d like to think so. Could a poorer premier league squad have ever been assembled for the money paid out.

Top of the ticked boxes list when vetting new signings is a player’s character and personality, as well as his suitability and adaptability for the epl.

The local lads ST, JC and to a degree PD may have some heart, but are poor, bang average players with no x factor whatsoever. Since the bournemouth game I’ve lost count of how many goals the grinning loon Taylor has been responsible for.

Of course it’s not just carr, incompetence has run rife throught the corridors of power at sjp.
Poor business negotiations saw us haggle over pathetically small amounts for the likes of Dier and Alli and flog Forster for peanuts.

Swansea and spurs have successfully punted misfits like townsend and shelvey and are joined by heart of a pea merchants like Janmatt and Sissoko.

How many of carr’s favourite expensive flops: Riviere, Saivet, Gouffran, Marveaux, Haidara, Thauvin, Cabella, Obertan (AP’s choice granted) even get near the bench any more.

Shocking and seemingly totally unaccountable discrepancy. We could say it couldn’t happen to anicer bloke than Mike Ashley. sadly we are the innocent victims caught in the crossfire of this boorish, oafish pariah.

Wonga having to borrow 25m to bail them out.

  • 110 Transfer Sage // Apr 10, 2016 at 12:25 PM

This team is a total embarrassment, not to the club half as much as to themselves.

I can’t understand why you would want to turn up week in week out and not put in effort. Nobody will want to touch them. Players like sissoko had the potential to be going to champions league level clubs but can’t see any good side touching him with his lack of commitment.

I personally think we need to drop taylor, sissoko, wijnaldum and janmaat for the coming games.

No point in picking them if they aren’t committed to the team, the odd bit of flair means nothing if you let men run off you causing us to ship 2/3 goals a week.

Get in Aarons, get Armtstrong back to partner mitrovic, give Roberts a go, lascelles must start.

We have given the current experienced players 32 games and they have shown nothing. If Rafa is to go when we go down why not drop the big names and embarrass them for what they are….he wont have to deal with the consequences after anyway.

  • 111 JamesToon // Apr 10, 2016 at 12:36 PM

When we go down we won’t come straight back up, even players like gouffran, rivière, marveaux, obertan, taylor, haidara I don’t think are even good enough for the championship. I don’t care what signings we make we’re gonna have a consolidation season, or could be a lot worse especially if Ashley doesn’t get rid of the muppets running the club. the championship Is one of the most competitive leagues in the world and its about who wants it more than the others, and more and more teams in that league are getting modern young managers to bring them a style of play that sets them up for the long term e.g Bournemouth. Sheffield Wednesday had been on a 4 match winning run I think and they just lost like 4-0 to Bristol city.

Yes players like Shelvey would probably walk into any championship team but if we don’t have the characters leaders or graft to go with that then we won’t be coming back up for a long time

  • 112 NezzaNUFC // Apr 10, 2016 at 12:49 PM

    Sorry for the late replies.

I wouldn’t want us to come straight back up, as Iv’e stated we need a few years in the Championship to rebuild a solid squad.

I understand about Karanka and you never know Middlesbourgh might not even get auto promotion, and Cathro on what I read about him has a similar style to Pep and has been touted as the next Pep.

And Laudrup? well I just liked his style at Swansea but didn’t like his attitude so don’t worry mate Laudrup was mentioned just for his style of play.

We’ve always wanted stability at Newcastle and with Cathro being 28-29 years old he can’t do any worse to what we had in the past?

Give him a season at least.

I think most of our players have no option but to stay until a club want’s to take a risk on them.

Those on high wages need to be contract terminated as soon as the season is over to expand the wage budget (if no club are after them which I doubt it)

It’s funny how people’s attitudes have changed, it’s not long ago I was being slated for basically telling the truth and being realistic in saying we were a poor team and we’d struggle. Many had us a top eight side, shows how much people know about our flops, they shouldn’t pull MA to bits, I’m sure he thought we’d be in the top half as well. No chance
Our current team wouldn’t survive in the championship.
It’s taken a while but most have eventually seen the light and realised we are sh.t.

But badly managed before Rafa came along.

Rob Elliott is the only Toon player who can hold his head above the water imo, the rest just like 2008/2009 are gutless and spineless, MA has pumped £120 million in to the football club via transfers to absolutely no avail at all, quite simply the worst season in the prem ever.

I have to add that the recruitment of Charnley has been a disaster the managers employed by the club have been a disaster, Shearer must be having a rye grin about Benitez at the moment as even he cant galvanize a struggling Toon team just like he could not it is not easy in the least is it.

Graham Carr has to take massive blame his “pals” act with the agents that he deals with i mean apart from Cabaye and maybe Debuchy “just” when has anything came good from his dealings, even financially!

How could he miss Payet at Marseille and then go for a spineless Thauvin.

MA has made to many bollocks for words regarding his choices of personel, and that is why we are in this situation, Bills im afraid its indefensible, Jail is jumping all over it, MA has put his hand in his poke but its not enough thus far.

It’s not just Charnley and Carr it’s the whole set up. I was just reading a glowing endorsement of Ashleys regime and his youth policy from Peter Beardsley in 2008. Of course he’s going to speak up for him he’s probably getting 10K a week when he wouldn’t even get a job with Hartlepool or Darlington with his record. Funny you mention bills as it was Beardsley glowing endorsement of Ashley that justifies his ridiculous belief in him. The stubborn old goat hasn’t got the decency to admit he was wrong either only appearing to gloat when he thinks the tide might be turning before disappearing back under his rock.

  • 127 Ashton // Apr 10, 2016 at 1:36 PM

Our best team for next week and the rest of the season:

    Townsend————–De Jong—————–Wijnaldum

Sissoko is vital in terms of defending set pieces. Our team is full of midgets and he normally marks the tallest opposition player when defending set pieces.

And he should never play on the left. He is a right sided player and should play there.

He could be a masterstroke at RB.

Tiote is also vital. He is brave and doesn’t shy away from the ball and never gives up.

De Jong should start every game. He is our smartest player and also has the most experience attacking wise.

Wijnaldum played his best for us at LW. Against Norwich home he played there and scored 4.

aye international weekend…when non of them played!

  • 146 posada // Apr 10, 2016 at 1:52 PM

Rafa at fault I’m afraid and no better than Wol Broll.
Taylor and Anita in same positions as last week. Same result they were poor.

Wijnaldum in centre midfield killed us and Shelvey.

Plays 4/2/3/1 with no pace up front. Will never work.
All teams know how to beat us. Push up as we have no pace to hurt them. Press high and we cannot handle it.

  • 147 Thump // Apr 10, 2016 at 2:10 PM

“Saylor scores against Swansea and you’ll be singing his name”

Only because he’ll be offsetting his the goals he’s been at fault for.

  • 148 Ron Knee // Apr 10, 2016 at 2:18 PM

SAFC showing more drive than we’re capable of.

  • 149 Jail for Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 2:23 PM

What options do we have, if Lascelles had of played and got turned over people would be crying out for Taylor to be played. To say he’s no better than Mclaren is foolish, had he been here long and had an influence over the 30M spent in January we wouldn’t be where we are.

  • 150 JamesToon // Apr 10, 2016 at 2:29 PM

I like Nezzas point about giving Cathro a go. Because regardless of who’s coming in we’re not gonna get straight back up so may as well give him a go as he could give us that long term stability, modern innovation we need.

Cathro could either work out like Alex Neil did who had basically no previous experience before Norwich, and got them promoted by playing good football and scoring lots of goals, or he could fail miserably like Chris Ramsey at QPR.

  • 151 Lindisfarne // Apr 10, 2016 at 2:29 PM

“”The anxiety is killing us sometimes,” Benitez added.”

If the stress is a problem then why not accept that we are going down, swallow the pride and get on with playing the match.

  • 152 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 2:36 PM

Ashley won’t loan the club any more money and it isn’t necessary, will be more than enough to rebuild and cover wages given the parachute payments and £50m+ worth of sales.

Financially we’re in a much better position to handle it this time, but the squad is much poorer and that’s going to be critical to any bounce back, who we bring in as manager and who oversee transfers.

Bruce actually wouldn’t be bad. Defence is his forte – even when relegated Hull still had the 11th best defence and I’m not sure if it’s still the case, but they conceded the least in the entire football league at last check around a month ago. He’ll also buy some experienced British players if he’s given full control and maybe bring the likes of Robertson in tow. Always does well in the Championship.

  • 157 Ron Knee // Apr 10, 2016 at 2:48 PM

    They’re playing as a unit.

  • 158 Munster Mag // Apr 10, 2016 at 2:49 PM

Ron, i think sunderland will stay up. I said same when they got Sam and reckoned it was the worst thing that could have happened. I dont think leicester will beat them . When i say the useless display from our players against them in the first half i started getting v worried if rafa was not going to be an effective appointment. Right man wrong time wrong idiot players. Martin hardy was brilliant on sunday supplement. He firmly nailed carr and not ashley for the lack of funds. He has highlighted ashleys errors before but hammered carr and players. Other journo felt rafa was wrong choice and is not a motivator. He looks correct. Also said wrong choice for championship as we would need a man who knows that league and the players in it. Am not so sure about that. Hardy reckoned rafa could well stay if ashley cedes total control and fully finances buys. I think pearson would be perfect if rafa leaves which i think he will, for Valencia.

I think i have to concede you were right, it is seemingly the players are s—e or just won’t make the effort.
    Great work graham carr.

  • 162 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 10, 2016 at 2:54 PM

Vardy does it again. Truly brilliant season from him. Not that invested in the national team, but him and Kane have to partner in the Euros.

    Quiz for the blind, thick-headed and those with pencils in their ears and noses ;
    1) Who said in May 2015 ” The buck stops with me” ?
    Was it a) Graham Carr
    b) Steve McLaren
    c) Kath the tea lady
    d) Our Lord and Master, Michael James Wallace Ashley

  • 164 toon kk // Apr 10, 2016 at 3:07 PM

Tbh we have a few good players but with all the flops in our squad they’re not playing to there potential and therefore going back over. Put our best in with the right team mates and you wouldn’t recognise them.
There has become a cancer in the squad, a case of your not trying so why should I. Then there’s the dead wood who shouldn’t be any where near a premier league club.
    What a mess.
But before the season kicked off our weaknesses weren’t addressed so we hadn’t a chance to compete with other clubs who know what’s required.

  • 165 ascot7 // Apr 10, 2016 at 10:19 PM

    I agree also
Some players are not playing for time. Only for themselves, and they know this a day have tickets on themselves that if they thinkthatclub will lose money and Churnly has not a clause for reduction of wages. My belief is;he will be replaced by Bishop. Cost his boss a lot of money. Why did Milo switch off our was it a night in bed with his Wife ? Benni ti has to read the riot act. Bring Armstrong in. He is a Geordie, So Mclarren was not to blame entirely.
