Rafa Benitez Loses Patience With This Player

1:29 pm, Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 14 Comments

We mentioned on Saturday after the game that could be Steven Taylor’s last game for Newcastle, as the local lad had a shocker in the first half and seems to have lost his mobility with all the injuries he’s sustained over the last six years.

Steven was hauled off at half time by Rafa Benitez and those Achilles injury in particular seem to be affecting him now.

Steven Taylor – played last game for Newcastle

The Times is reporting today that Rafa will not play Steven again this season, so the Whitley Bay lad played a total of 264 games with 15 goals for Newcastle, after making his debut in early 2004 when Sir Bobby Robson was manager.

Steven was very good as a teenager and in his early 20’s and he played 29 times with four goals when he captained the England U21 side under Stuart Pearce from 2004-2009.

But the Greenwich-born player of Geordie parents never fulfilled the massive potential he had when he was younger.

Steven’s contract at Newcastle runs out in June and it will not be renewed.

Taylor suffered several serious injuries from January of 2010 ,which have seen him miss lots of games with injury.

It’s a sad way for the 30 year-old to end his career at his local club, but nobody ever questioned his passion for Newcastle United.

Steven will be hurting like the rest of us, that Newcastle will also likely be relegated this season.

🙁

Comments welcome.

Should have been sold two years ago.

Someone told him not to dive in to avoid giving away penalties.
Worked a treat – he just gave goals away instead.
Can’t deny his passion for playing for the club, especially in easier circumstances.

Maybe Steve and Daryl could be the new cheer leaders for all the arm waving they do.

Said all along I’d have rather had Willo as third choice, if we’d let Collocini go and brought a good solid 10M CB in to partner Mbemba with a solid LB like Pieters at Stoke with Lascelles, Dummet and Willo as back up we wouldn’t have leaked so many goals. Not wise after the event or the blessing of hindsight just basic footballing common sense.

Jail – thats damn generous of you!! He should have been sold a lot earlier than that. He’s a sick-note, unable to play more than a handful of games every year.
    What’s his average? Something like 12 – 14 games a year??

Championship defence with Steve Bruce at the helm.

the ironic thing and this could only happen at nufc is that taylor gets a 250k annual loyalty bonus.
Our negotiators are really top notch!!

If and when things come to worst I personally would love the see the back of at least 15 players and if rafa goes too I’d like to see what cathro could do with a largely young local team.

Pity that Charnley was so quick to sell Williamson.

Taylor did have some promise when he was young, but he never improved over the years. In recent years he has obviously had several bad injuries that can decimate careers but even before snapping his achilles against Chelsea he wasn’t getting better. Now we are seeing the result of an average player coming back from years of continuing injuries and playing more games than he can handle. And he’s in a team that has no confidence, no heart, no passion, no character and not enough quality.

    My team for next Saturday:
    Darlow
    Mbemba…Lascelles…Collocini…Dummet
    Townsend…Shelvey…Colback
    Perez
    Mitrovic…Cisse

If we’re going down let’s go out with a bang not a whimper! This shows attacking intent, even though that’s a strange concept for our squad.

Genuinely interested in where Saylor would go next ? Burton or Wigan ?

Why settle for Elliot in goal – he is actually average….

@ lesh; the Williamson thing- it’s a windup?
